Hmmm. Are we sure it doesn't work with Chris? Is the serum trick also Jill exclusive? I wonder if this makes Jill the fastest "speed runner" compared to Chris w/ rocket launcher? I'd contemplate doing a recorded run for whatever is fastest. It's the least I can do to finally "finish" this game off Though I have a decent score already of around 1hr 6mins with Chris rocket launcher on PS3 (took 3 tries IIRC and about 5 minutes of thinking of my route before hand).

I didn't say it didn't work with Chris. Nobody's tried it yet, is the thing, because Jill has more sequence breaks.
Even so, playing Chris and playing Jill is like two different games, which is why they are separate categories. There is no 'speed runner character', because they can both be ran. It's different weapons, different event routes, etc.
Also, PS3 is awful for speedrunning. The in-console PS1 emulator loads games slower than a PS1, even. You would be better playing on a PSP, because it loads the fastest.Last edited by Carcinogen; 03-30-2014, 07:52 PM.

I thought I recognized that name, I caught your RE1,RE2, REmake, Code V, and RE3 speedruns at awesome games done quick(its a charity him and dozens of other gamers do for fighting cancer, autism research, doctors without borders, etc) you're definitely one of the best gamers out there I've seen.
Its a shame the more recent shitty games aren't worth your time(Revelations maybe, but 4,5, and 6 aren't worth it) because its been a blast watching your runs.
Heres his code V x run(no cutscenes) its a good time.

Yep, I'm not a pro speed-runner nor do I care about WR. RE1 is the only game I've done a run for, and I only tried it around 3 times.

I was a dick to everyone, I made like a million mistakes because I didn't practice, and I played on an annoying loud fight stick because I thought it would be cool and unique. I was partially intimidated by the fact that I had no friends there to help me talk about it and that my game would not be as impressive of a speedgame to watch. Fortunately, I'm over it and I changed my attitude and mindset toward speedrunning completely, but GOD that video makes me cringe. I don't want to be famous for that video. Like, 1,000,000 people thought it was the worst run of SGDQ'13 and when I realized there were still RE fans in the audience, I thought I'd let them down.
Don't waste your time watching that one though. This is my PB, it's 15 minutes faster, you should watch this one instead:

I did do a practice commentary, with Part 4, but the problem with that was the gameplay itself. See how I wasted like 1 minute from not putting in the Green Jewel before going to the newspaper building? If I elected to not keep the attempt I recorded, I would have had less dead space. My commentary seems like I get turned around a lot (I have to divert a little bit to keep up with what's going on on-screen), but I actually manage to say everything I want to say. I've been rewatching periodically to see if there's anything I missed that I would like to point out in future sections, and writing them down.
Part of the reasons I'm recording these commentaries is so I can break out of the speedrunning mindset and be able to talk about basic gameplay with the objective of helping new players and intermediate players learn about the games. I held WRs in almost every RE game at one point or another, so it'll take some getting used to, especially since all of the little things I took for granted while speedrunning the games (consigning things to muscle memory) are things that can help newer players get better.
I'll get better at this though... I promise!
Part 5 is scheduled to go up tomorrow. I'll post it when it does. I did that one in one take, but I managed to fill in dead space pretty well.Last edited by Carcinogen; 04-08-2014, 03:23 PM.

I think you should crop the bottom left window that has your face. Tons of empty space that is taking up a good portion of the screen and only a tiny bit of it has you in it. Or, just remove it because we don't need to see you to hear your commentary (I don't care either way as long as it doesn't take up so much space).

I should crop it a little bit, or at least change the capture resolution to 4:3 instead of 16:9. I put my face there, because I think giving a face to associate the voice to makes it a little more personable and gives the viewer someone to identify with. It also helps me to sync up the commentary better with the gameplay. I'm not ugly, am I?

This goes up to Nemesis in the Clock Tower. The Nemesis fight in front of the City Hall is kinda complicated. He only spawns in the second backdrop you enter, and within said backdrop, it'll be one of two, maybe 3 places. I opted for the way that gets him stuck, and it's kinda hard to do consistently. Wish he would follow you through rooms, because it's nigh impossible to avoid damage in that area.Last edited by Carcinogen; 04-10-2014, 03:47 PM.

It's kind funny you said you'd be using the Western Shotgun later on and skipped fighting Nemesis in the cable car when you could have used it there. The Western Shotgun is perfect for close combat, as I've learned when I recorded my Resident Evil 3 stuff. It's fast going off, it will stop Nemesis on its tracks and there's not much delay after a shot. As long as you maintain a good distance in the cable car (and that's easy to forget sometimes), Nemesis won't be able to touch you. The Western Shotgun is the handgun with enhanced ammo but much more powerful.
Flame Rounds are the best gunpowder ratio ammo-effectiveness the game offers. All you need to create it is a Gunpowder A and 6 Grenade Rounds. Every single enemy minus bosses will be defeated using only one round (same applies to Freeze Rounds - although you need another Gunpowder C to create them; Grenade and Acid Rounds can sometimes fail to kill Brain Suckers and/or Hunter Betas with a single shot). Flame Rounds can also be used against Nemesis to slow him down if the flame animations trigger just as he starts running (but it's a bit unreliable). You can then keep the remaining Gunpowder B either to create shotgun shells to deal with zombies (or other enemies) or handgun bullets (if you go for BBA - useful if you want to use the handgun with enhanced ammo for Nemesis).
One more thing. Regarding the two gunpowder A in the clocktower - it is important to remember that they are optional. Why? Because you can find a set of mines there. There's another set next to the bell to the exit of the clocktower and then two more sets (again: optional - two sets of Grenade Rounds might be there instead) in the save room before reaching Raccoon Park. That brings the total count of mines to 30 (24 plus the 6 loaded into the weapon). Why does any of this stuff matter? If you want to defeat Nemesis using it only, there's only one opportunity - the fight in the Disposal Chamber. At least 28 mines are obligatory. The player cannot afford to miss his shots or screw up the timing with Nemesis' animations during that battle (there's a short period of invincibility when Nemesis falls on his knees and then gets up again). There are much better ways of defeating Nemesis there but using the Mine Thrower makes that thing much more fun and challenging and it wouldn't surprise me if the developing team had this option in mind when they allocated that number of mines in the game - plus it plays a lot on game design as you can use the explosion of the mines to trigger chemical vault which will push Nemesis back giving another opportunity to shot Nemesis again. It's also pretty ironic to use a prototype weapon that Umbrella developed to destroy Umbrella's ultimate B.O.W.. but that's more of a meta thing .
Kudos for your fifth fight against Nemesis. I had seen some good methods but yours was truly the most deadly and effective I had seen so far.

I never tried the Western Shotgun on Nemesis! That actually would've been a great idea, because I had way too many Freezes left over and I could have mixed so many shotgun shells to work him over. I'll play around with it for when I try routing an arbitrary 100% speedrun later this year.
Also, I knew I was forgetting something with the two Gunpowder A's in the Clock Tower. Totally forgot that there could be mines there too.
The strat I used at City Hall was, to me, totally lucky. Junior/Smallville's method didn't work for me, so I tried something else. I stumbled upon it while I was screwing around with the idea of exiting and reentering to slowly sap away his HP then it just kinda fell in my lap during a lucky spawn near the double doors. If I can work out the exact running pattern, then it could be used every time, 'cuz I feel as though Nemesis will follow the pattern the same way if I could replicate it. I couldn't practice it because of the forementioned random spawn position that triggers upon entering the second camera angle, 'cuz Nemesis can spawn 3 different ways if I enter the door there.
Since all random events like that are seeded when you enter a room though, I could probably try playing around with savestates next time.Last edited by Carcinogen; 04-11-2014, 04:00 AM.
