  • New(?) Rebecca speculation/theories

I remember reading somewhere before Damnation came out that one of the producers wanted to include Rebecca in the film. He wanted to possibly show what Rebecca had been up to since we last saw her. Well that didn't exactly happen...or did it? Perhaps there is a zombified Rebecca Easter egg hidden somewhere! XD. Also, I wonder if there is an early script out there of Damnation that includes the proposed Rebecca resurfacing. I wish I could speculate in-depth as to what role in the film she might've taken (short cliched "give Leon rocket launcher to kill tyrant at the end of game" scene + epilogue/a rebel fighter/ U.S. ambassador/seemingly random quirky girl living in Europe) but I need to refresh my memory by watching it again. Idk, what do you guys think?

I too remember someone saying they wanted Rebecca to be in Damnation. It's too bad she wasn't, I would've loved to see her return.

I think Capcom needs to bring back Rebecca and Barry before they make any more new characters.

I could see her offering support ala Para-Medic MGS style. Regardless, she probably has a high-end lab position with the BSAA...or she's a happily married mother of three (with Billy of course, now under the assumed identity of "Jericho") and works as a radiologist at your local hospital.

Or the events of RE0/1 proved too much for her fragile young mind and she's in a looney bin.

Not sure why people think Rebecca will be a scientist.

        She's a chemist/doctor.

I always wanted her to come back , they should just make her BSAA field medic or something.
Id like her playable again along with Claire.

That's why I think she would have more of a Para-Medic type role or work in a lab (as a chemist).

How I wished Rebecca would have died in 3. At least she would have closure.

At this point, and since long before, I think she just survived and quit from the story, same as many other characters: Barry, Nicholai, Carlos, Billy and the more contemporary ones: Sheva, Josh, Parker, Jessica, Raymond, Helena and Jake. I could bet most of them will never return.

We never thought Sherry would return either, but hey, RE6 had a nice little surprise for us.

Yep. Honestly I'm hoping that they'll retire Chris/Leon/Jill/Claire soon.

With the plot of the recent games moving the set year to coincide with around the same year the game is actually released, the original characters haven gotten old, fast.

I don't see more than a few years left before they either introduce new characters (that stick around for more than one game) to slowly take over, or reboot the series. It's not Mario, these characters are getting older every day.

People use to say that Barry's age was one of the reasons why they thought he wouldn't be in future installments. Chris is now two years older than Barry was in RE1. Wesker, who was the same age as Barry kept on strong until his death at the age of what, 49? But obviously he wasn't your "average" guy either.

At one point, I really thought they had stepped up to the plate. I was genuinely convinced that they were going to kill off Chris. They had the story headed right for it, full steam ahead with the whole, "I want you to take over after me, I'm retiring" speech on the way to fight the boss. But no, Chris lives. Leon also lives, after using his back to shield Ada from T-rex/Jaguar tail bullets, or whatever the hell that was.

It's almost as if Capcom toys with the idea of introducing new characters, but then kills them off or files them away in some cabinet marked: possible future cameos.

So I'm left asking myself: When do they draw the limit?

They almost did kill chris but they said doing so would of felt like it was a gimmick instead of a proper character send off. Personally i think they just didn't want to be the ones to kill an established series hero. I don't think i'd want to see them go away completely but they do need to start doing stuff with the new characters they introduce and the series needs a new big bad that lasts more than one game. I'd love to see something that involves parker or sheva teaming up or sherry on a new adventure where her loyalty is questioned.

Rebecca won't be back because she was created, like everyone else, to fit a stereotype/archetype/niche/cliche/fetish role. Her function was to be the Ridiculously Young Girl and attract people that way. In REland, she's, what, in her 30s by now? She no longer fulfills her allotted role and thus is of no use to anyone at Capcom.

It's sad but true. I love Rebecca now and forever but it's probably for the best she's just forgotten about just like I forget about everything after RE4.

                            I don't see Rebecca's appeal, personally.

Then again, I'm not terribly fond of any character in the series.

Yes, totally agree - this is another reason for the considerable loss of survival horror quality and integrity the series has suffered since Code: Veronica. One dimensional characters that fail to develop or garner interest, scattered across a multitude of unrelated narratives, and given atrociously context poor dialogue.

Dario Rosso was the last Resident Evil character I had any interest in, and for the record, Leon is a dull & unlikeable c**t.
