Of all the RE games that were scrapped and start over from scratch, this should have been one of them. That would have been an improvement.

The thing is, if we keep on giving Chris games, then Jill will get games, and then Leon, then possibly Clair, and the cycle will repeat from there. Where does it end? As a narrative, the characters must eventually give up the fight. You don't see JoJo still using Jonathan joestar from part 1, nor do you see the Shannara book series still using Shea Omsford from the original Sword of Shannara, and if you need a video game example, even Call of Duty realizes the need to use different protagonists.

I didn't really like the fact that they set Chris back in 6. He was finally able to get some closure in 5 and they just drug him back in and manufactured a new problem that was solved in the same game.

As for what could have been done better...I think they had a few things they could have played with more like Leon being blamed for killing the president. I think it could have been great if the game ended with Leon being on the run as public enemy number one, it would have given the future titles something to chew on. Another thing that could have been great would have been the relationship between Ada and Carla, They should have played up the cat and mouse aspect more and had Carla really mess with Ada's mind. It could have played int the end better when Ada snaps and goes berserk on that lab.

If i wanted to say what an overall problem this game had was, it was the fact that it resolved way too much in one game. Resident evil 2 ended with chris still missing and raccoon still infected, 3 ended with chris still missing and jill looking for him after raccoon's destruction on top of sherry being taken into custody, code veronica ended with umbrella still active and everyone on route to bring it down. The earlier games built arcs and left the player wanting more. There also needs to be a recurring big bad thats an actual threat, not a one and done bad guy.

I actually thought the multiple campaign aspect was cool, it reminded me of the episodic structure of Resident Evil Outbreak. My only problem with it was the repetitive nature of the boss battles. It could have helped if the campaign overlap forced the different teams to fight the boss in different ways.

What they NEED to do - is bring back a storyline that arcs over several games (like how RE1,2,3 all linked together into one big story about Raccoon City)
Not have each game have its own storyline that is wrapped up and done with at the end..

              EDIT: Basically what OfficerRedfield said..

Movies do it most of the time, and so should RE/BIO. They need to let some characters have a backseat for a while also and either make new ones that we actually care about (unlike Sheva,Helena/Piers)..
I would love for Claire, Rebecca, Barry to come back for at least one or two games - they've been out of the picture for too long.
The only reason Capcom have stuck with Jill Chris Ada and Leon is that they sell - simple as. They're popular with the 'new generation' of RE players that have only player the series from RE4 onwards..
              This needs to change.

This. As bad as it was, RE5 closed all the major plot lines. There's nothing left to do. Only Sherry Birkin's ultimate fate would've remained a mystery, but considering the unexciting way RE6 handled that, nothing of value would've been lost. Capcom's hinting of a possible Neo-Umbrella for example is not going to win me over anymore. It doesn't sound exciting anymore, and makes just all the more clear how desperately they're milking this already pretty hollow franchise.

Umbrella worked well in RE1-3 because they were a global pharmaceutical company developing bio weapons in secret and operating in and around Raccoon City and their cover hadn't been blown. Anything set after that lost the duality of the organisation, especially since they get referred to as "shadowy" alot.

Most of these points will have been said before but for me these were some of my gripes with 6. These are my gameplay gripes. I don't even want to get started on the story line....

-Driving sections were terrible. I didn't like any of them, they felt poorly done, I didn't like the "on rails" Plane section. I fully appreciate the games aren't meant to be "real", however they are set in a realistic universe. I can accept bizarre monsters and creatures attacking me, but I cannot accept a Jeep having a "Turbo" feature.

-Ammunition. If your going to give me stupid amounts of enemies to kill, give me adequate ammo. Reserving ammo etc worked in the original style of Bio games, it doesn't work in 6. One example of this is when I ran out of ammo completely while fighting T-Rex Simmons and had to knife him to death. Straight after this fight you then have to rescue Ada ideally with a sniper style shot. With no options to pick up ammo inbetween I had to rely on Zombies falling from above, knife/mellee them and hope for the right ammo to drop.

-Too much Mellee. It works well at times but the most of the time, ugh.

-Darkness. This is something I am fully aware you can change in the settings, however I felt the game was too dark in places, so much so that things would be easily missed. This is being based on the games recommended settings.

-Camera. I just didn't like it.

-Chess pieces/upgrading - I didn't care for the upgrade system in the game at all, I thing I did it the first time it was offered and then I just ignored it completely. Waste of time, didnt work well at all and easy to ignore.

                    - Crests - The lack of files in this game is something I really missed. I know you can find them by finding the crests but again, I really didn't care for this. I would have much preferred to find the files rather than find a hidden crest in an office desk.

keys- Find the 3 keys....this grows tiring very fast, let alone having it in every scenario in one way or another

Giant monster chase ^^^^^^^^Same as above!

-Ada's section was very poor in my opinion. I didn't like the section at all.

There probably are alot more things that I dislike about this game, but this is just off the top of my head.

I found myself wanting to complete the game for the sake of it. I lost almost all interest in the story, found the gameplay repetative and frustrating and at the end of it just wanted to finish it as iv'e finished every other title. I really don't think i'll ever replay the game as I was releived just to finish.

                      1. Rewrite the story so that it was about Sherry and Jake, the only meaningful characters from a story perspective. Leon and Chris don't do anything besides look angry and sweaty. You have two characters with a wealth of psychological problems, parental issues, ties with the history of the series etc and so on. Instead we get a dumb save the vaccine plot that ends with an inconsequential monster exploding. A dark journey of discovery with actual character arcs? Some flashbacks to the history of Umbrella they skipped over? Nope here's some anime garbage. What a wasted opportunity.

                      2. Scrap the Hollywood globe trotting nonsense. China is a visually interesting location, so expand that into a RE2 style exploration with two or three large areas that are explored one room at a time like a game in this genre should be. And not something that resembles Rainbow Six Vegas or John Woos Stranglehold for christs sake. If all else fails stick to the mansion/lab/museum/lab formula. No dumb car chases, helicopters, motorbikes, jet skis, whatever. Just stop it.

                      3. Design some proper monsters. All these useless mutants are cannon fodder, go back to the drawing board. The giant snake was good because it was just the same thing that worked the last time. Bone-cheetah-t-rex-dogshit monsters need to go. And no tentacles. Jesus. Less is more. Lickers are just a guy with no skin, hunters are a big lizard, a lot of the others are just animals without an substantial change besides size or adding claws. People used to be frightened a guy in a flash mack was going to jump out, now all that's left are more retarded Parasyte rip offs. This leads back into point 2 - level design lends to memorable monster encounters.

This is EXACTLY what my little sister said when she first saw the Plagas in RE4 way back when. Parasyte really was an amazing manga.

I think, this game could have been saved if they had 1 setting, 1 BIG setting, say the eastern European War Zone and just had Jake and Sherry as the main characters then A: Make Jake not a wasted oppertunity B: give these two characters more personality and humanity C: have the setting actually be scary. Seriously, we haven't had a scary RE setting in forever.

A war zone could have been unsettling at the least...but then I saw Ogoroman and started laughing.I mean a fucking Resident Evil War zone should be something that has you on your toes, fucks with your sense of comfort, and has good level design that allows the right types of monster encounters.

They could have had Leon, Helena, and Ada as part of the story, but as side characters to support the story. Chris was wasted in this game. I mean seriously give the guy a break, He's got no life outside of fighting BOWs and he just finished off his story arc years ago.

Last thing....isolate the fucking characters already. Thats what made the original games so much better, the protagonists were stranded and had to fight their way out of these situations. Now everything seems to be getting dropped off in dangerous areas, knowing whats ahead of them and they just don't give a fuck.

Everyone is just so..."here we go again". Thats NOT how you want your protagonists to react to a situation, you want them scared, on their toes and ready to face whatever is being thrown at them. If they're used to it, then we as an audience won't be as interested in them.

Also make these characters fucking human already. No more of these hafl assed character concepts, give them flaws and emotional voids, these are what make us interested in them.

The thing I hated most about RE6 was the IN-game files (I know you can unlock them, but they aren't like they used to be, they're explanations on story, characters)
I liked how 4,5 and Revelations had them .. classic in a way.

He managed to make Osmund Saddler seem interesting by comparison, and Saddler was a pretty flat villain.

I actually liked Simmons. If they got rid of Carla and the stupid Ada inclusion, he would've had more time to shine in a better light.
