    Going back to the beginning of this thread. I heard the graveyard was cut because of "hardware limitations" aka they couldn't get it to look right or they didn't finish it in time for the release of the game. I also have to say the multiple rooms in the library being cut from REmake is also a disappointment to this day. Though at the same time the blue corridor by the library and elevator which was useless in the original now serves of a purpose (one of which being the first crimson head encounter.)

      I guess Kamiya stated on twitter some time ago, graveyard existed in a 'concept' form only. But yeah, the initial intention was there way back.

        So what all was cut from the game? Obviously we got...
        Graveyard
        Woods trails (apparantly)
        Backstory for Jill
        Trevor story.
        Several enemies and characters which never made it passed concept art

        Anyone know anything else?

          I feel the parts of that extended underground section which appear in the REmake was probably planned and cut as well. The machinery for that section and the hole in ground is there in the original, including the fact you can check the equipment with a description, as if it was all planned for but then dropped to make that section shorter.

            I've always noticed that myself! You can see the elevator shaft and its pretty clearly something was cut from that section hell I bet players of the original back in the day before Remake were wondering this.

              I noticed that too when I played it a few days ago. I thought 'oh crap, more to do', but then never ended up using anything in that area meaningfully. This is why I consider REmake to be the 'real' first installment, because Mikami got to do everything he wanted to but couldn't in the first release.

                The end of the game is incredibly bare, some of the backgrounds look straight up half finished.

                  Being one of those players of the original back in the day it certainly was questioned. Back when the game came out in 1996 only one person I knew had internet and there certainly wasn't very easy ways of finding the info even with it. Most of it was magazines and guide books, and most of us didn't have enough money to buy games and magazines all the time or pay for constant internet access. So most of the things in the game were obsessed over by myself and my friends as we played through.

                  I remember one of my friends spent weeks over the high school holidays trying to work out how to "use" the Doom Books for example before finding the medals inside before anyone really knew about them and we all had a chance to share notes on what we'd been playing. I also remember spending a lot of time examining just about everything in the game and looking at all that stuff in the underground for extra hidden stuff.

                  I suspect in a lot of ways it was the constant obsession with finding all the endings and paths in the game in the first place, along with the zombie thing which I was really into at the time, as to why I latched onto the franchise so much in the first place. And why I wrote my first ever basic version of a walkthrough for both Chris and Jill in early 1997.

                  It's so easy now days to not just look something up, because of course within a couple of years after RE1 guides online were common enough, but with video access just watch someone else play through bits of games and most of the secrets are found in no time.

                    *before voting* this is a contest? only the most extreme nostalgists would choose...

                    *after* ... apparently quite a few out there not only find B-movie cheese fests tolerable, but seem to love it more than a truly bone chilling remaster with a superior esthetic. (not to mention the gameplay improvements, the only thing it doesn't have are extra games. which is odd considering how much space was probably left in the 2nd disc)

                    i dont care about the nitty gritty details behind the scenes, but i will say that the remake captures an experience the original can only dream of

                        The trevor story was in one of the RE1 beta's wasn't it?? Or was it only concept.
                        I remember there were shots of writing in blood on the walls on the 2F east stairway above the save room.

                          i think there were files in both full versions of the game talking about the Trevor story. speaking of which in the remake the story behind lisa was quite touchingly sad. her introduction and the crimson heads were one of my favorite additions to the remake, they add a whole layer of strategic tension.

                            Remake had "Trevor's Memoir", which likely contained most information found in the original, "Trevor's Notes". These were essentially fragmented parts of latter 'Memoir', scattered over the mansion. Also contained references (allegedly) to where certain items would be found in game. I've never seen a beta version that had these included as originally intended, but there could be one. RE1 is notable for it's almost complete absence of mention regarding Spencer and Trevor, specifically.

                            Also, personally prefer CV Tim Daly Chris over HIV Pete Sampras Chris, who exists in remake. Almost as scary as the Crimson Heads.

                              It is not simply a case of pure nostalgia, but you have to look at it from a point of appreciation. I'll use the film Jaws for example, if that film was made today in exactly the same way, it's is quite obvious the reaction it would get. The fact that it was made back in 1974 (released the following year) though means that to this day, people can appreciate the hell out of the film for what it was at the time and still enjoy it.

                              The original Resident Evil is exactly the same deal in my personal opinion and I believe is the same opinion for many others, the only difference being is it's a computer game, not a film. I'm sure someone here could type up a much better in depth explanation of what I mean, but that's my quick take on it.

                                I liked the original more than remake, remake had awesome back stories with more information on Lisa Trevor etc, that was pretty cool. But it felt repetitive with the crimson heads, I didn't like the oil and fire thing... too much work, too little space lol.

                                I like the lame voice acting, "Jill sandwich", Wesker telling Chris he's not used to escorting men. I miss that old school comedy
