I finally started playing today for the first time on my 360 and so far I'm enjoying the game. Casual so far is a bit too easy since I have a small stockpile of ammunition and herbs. I'll give an update once I finish the chapter.

Alex's mutation. I wonder when it happens? I noticed that her voice had that mutant-ish quality during the Ep. 2 preview. Since Barry's story takes place 6 months after Claire's, I'd imagine she underwent her
transformation during the timeskip. Maybe Claire and Moira ended up injuring her badly, so she needed to pull a Birkin.

The length of time doesn't matter one single bit. Game development is not quick and different writers worked on BIO5 and BIO6. Spoiler:

Same reason Yasuhisa Kawamura was not allowed to write about Rebecca in BIO3.

Spencer didn't show up in anything but beta and Japanese material for the first five years the series existed. Which coincidentally makes him even less of a character at that time than Alex was in BIO5 going by your goofy logic, at least Alex was mentioned in-game.

If they're mentioned at all, they are "actual" characters. They exist in the series universe, and that's all they need. That's all there is to it.

"Wasn't released in the US" is completely irrelevant. CAPCOM gives zero fucks about the US when it comes to story.

How do you know Alex was only meant to appear in files? The files were a setup for Alex's appearance. Christine is the opposite, she was already a character and she already appeared in a story. The files merely referenced the story.

Except it took 5 years for her to finally show up as an actual character.
By the time they've decided to include Billy, Dario and Jill in RE2 for N64, the script for RE0 was complete and RE3 was about to be released.
This is an entire different case for Alex, they've just inserted her there and forgot about her by the next game.

And if that's the case for Christine, then sorry. Doesn't exclude she doens't show up in anything else than the radio drama, which wasn't even released in the US.
