Holy cow. This is one of the best RE games in years. I was wrong to judge it for being a first person game when it was announced. Those were never my cup of tea, really. It's not quite what I expected/wanted either, but it's been very entertaining. To be honest though, it to me feels more like a Silent Hill game. I've said that on Biohaze as well. But I just completed it tonight, and what a cool game.

The game is very good and has the heartbeat of the classic games, just now in first person. I am really blown away by it and it's great to see a very good RE game come out. It feels weird to get save rooms, item boxes, and dedicated save locations back. It really does give me a sense of nostalgia from the older games while being fresh and new. This is exactly what the series needed, a return to survival horror. Welcome back Resident Evil!
I beat it a second time today and started my play through of Mad House mode. Holly balls the first boss fight is a lot more demanding of these shots.Last edited by Zombie_X; 01-28-2017, 11:28 PM.

Well by then end you get some ammo thrown at you and health as well. It does become a tad easier, but it's nothing too bad. At the end of my second play through I had close to 180 handgun bullets, 60 shotgun shells, and 10 first aids saved up. I already have the Magnum unlocked, and that thing is a beast.
Spoiler:
Though the end boss is a tad ridiculous and a bit detached from what we've fought until then. Very over the top. There's a bit of a super natural feel going on as well.

It's funny, I started Biohazard 3 on VITA on "Heavy Mode" today as well, it's really nice going back to that game after a long break. The city feels very atmospheric with headphones on. My beta sense is so in tune I was wondering why I couldn't grab the chain in the starting room with Dario. Beta stuff messes with your mind after long breaks!

After spoiling myself, I really wish the devs had talked about the story more before release. The cannibal hillbilly theme, combined with statements that there would only be hints at previous RE events, made me completely dismiss this game as Resident Evil in-name-only, which I had exactly zero interest in even watching a let's play of, let alone getting myself.
Now that I know that isn't exactly the case, I'll probably pick it up eventually, but if I'd known earlier I probably would have pre-ordered. I get that they wanted everything to be a surprise, but they could have maintained that while still showing us that this was very much linked to the overall RE story.

Great to see RE7's release and re-ignited life in these forums. Finished it this morning on normal and going to play through on Madhouse before the DLC is out, and will summerise my thoughts then. Until then, roll on RE2Make, action led titles being under the 'Revelations' banner, 1.5 & Code:madman progressing well and of course, a great RE8!"Stories of imagination tend to upset those without one."

Just letting you know that my post is spoiler-free. I definitely appreciate spoiler-free posts in this thread.
I'll be honest, I'm having a hard time playing this game. It is extremely unsettling. I think the graphics are great, and my favorite part of the game so far is the garage part (for those who played, you know what I'm talking about). The realism and the gameplay mechanics are excellent. Capcom has really done a good job on this game. And this is coming from someone who was opposed to it being a first-person view game.
I love the fact that you can actually move your head and see the rest of your body. It is more than a typical first-person view game. It is meant so that you feel like you are the character. Most FPS games only show you the weapon at best. This game shows you the whole character (everything but the face, because you are looking through his eyes).
I am terrified with Jack.
Spoiler:
After draining the tub to get that item, and then he comes through the door, I stunned him, and ran down to the mansion 1st floor main hall, and had my back against that door where you need the 3 emblems that have to go into the door. After waiting there for a while (too scared to go anywhere, because you never know where he'll pop up), he eventually shows up on the second floor balcony of the main hall, saying "Where's my Ethan?" and all sorts of other things. After waiting there for five minutes or so, alternating between inventory and just standing there practicing my aiming, he eventually proceeds to cross the balcony, and then I shoot him from the where I am, and then he comes running down and comes after me. My heart is beating fast, and I'm really uncomfortable. I manage to put him down with the knife (because honestly, the handgun is really useless against him, the knife works better), I run like hell to the save room. After some inventory management, and saving (with my health critical), I leave the save room, go down that hall, and he pops up down the hall around the corner.
This game is too tense for me. It is very uncomfortable. But, even though is is very uncomfortable, that is a good thing, because that is what Resident Evil is about. Horror and fear.
RE3 was different, because at least once you put the Nemesis down, you knew that was it until the next time he showed up. This guy, for those who've played, is different. You can't kill him at all, and he has no boundaries. He can go anywhere. Anywhere except the save room.
Anyone else having the same fear?

I found it best to just run from him. As soon as I was accosted in the bathroom I sprinted to the save room - and I pretty much never saw him again. Once I was in Grandma's room crouching (what I thought was out of sight) he saw me and came in. But I just ran back to the main hall - I went through the crack in the wall to the save room (rather than through the scorpion door) and never saw him again (I could hear him though, I must have just been quick). In my whole play through I never had to shoot him enough to put him to the ground (Normal difficulty).Last edited by TheSelfishGene; 01-30-2017, 03:15 AM.sigpic

TheSelfishGene, a question for you:
Spoiler:
When you get out of that bathroom, you know how there's that stairwell right there, that you can fall down back to the first floor, just close enough to the save room? Do you happen to know if Jack can follow you by jumping down the stairwell as well?
Also, is it possible that Jack can't just simply spawn wherever he wants? He has to literally walk to the locations you are at? I was worried that if I jump over the stairwell to the first floor, and by some chance go in the save room, if I come out of it, he'll be right there.
I think what is really scary is that he is fast. So when you are running from him, the fact that you know he is behind you is just unbearable. It is just too scary. Capcom has definitely succeeded in re-creating that terror.

I didn't even think drop down to the first floor over the broken stairs. I descended via the main hall. Maybe because it's a longer distance I lost him along the way? I'm not sure if he can teleport ahead of you. I've only had one playthrough so far. Maybe someone else can comment.sigpic

Having played through this game twice, yes he does follow you in jumping down if you jump down those stairs (so can the molded if they manage to follow you up there). The only door in the main hall that Jack can't go in is the scorpion door near the 3 headed dog door. I'm pretty sure Jack walks everywhere after losing you, considering one time I ran into him on the second floor to do a lockpick box and the second time I went to do that he came from the dining area. The only time where he spawns where he wants was when he breaks down the wall when you try to skip dinner.
