RE:2 has to be the best in my opinion, always had replay value more then the others (until RE:4 came out that is) I can always play that over and over again. Most of all I loved having that multiple scenarios to play.

I understand wbirkin, now I'll make another one simpler where you have to eliminate the games til the best ones so there we will know which R.E is the best of the rest... So you have to vote for the worst one so the one with the most votes will be eliminated...

I vote Resident Evil 2. 'cause it has best storyline, best background, and best characters.

Most if not all of the votes likely came from people who started out with the game, or got into the series because of it (if anyone says otherwise, he/she is lying their asses off).

RE1 and 2 take the cake, but I voted for the original even though RE2 was the game that really got me into the series. The update RE1 got in DS with some technical overhauls was a showcase for a great classic.

I personally started with original RE, but remake is much better with updated graphics and original story with stuff addons.

The quality is naturally subjective and is a matter of preference. Old school fans still like the original better; some for sentimental reasons and others for gameplay.. I'm willing to bet that Mikami's reason is the former since it's THE game that put him on the map.

Aside from technical upgrades (which doesn't matter since graphics age), the remake is neither superior or inferior to the original. The branching was simplified, and the challenge level took a step down from the arrange mode in RE DC. What it added was replay value thanks to the various modes, and the layout of the mansion made sense. Crimson heads were shocking for about 10 minutes.

The first thing that I hear from people who prefer the remake is the aesthetic superiority. That's what it boils down to.

Add another 10 minutes; figuring out that she can't be beat in the first two enouters, then the slow boss fight. The Trevor files were common knowledge prior to the game's release anyway, so I stand by what I said.

The mansion lay-out was far better
                              The voice acting was fixed
Neptune wasn't a boring room with a shark tank in the middle
The graveyard was a welcome addition
Enemies coming through the windows all the time
                              hunter in the bathroom
                              hanging zombie
                              super forest speyer
actual use for the flame rounds (other than killing)
explains the gap between licker and zombie
I had no Idea of the trevor files before then
                              better puzzles
Overall darker creepier mood which is the most important thing in a horror game

Once again, those are presentation and layout differences alongside technical ones. All a given for a remake on a more powerful hardware. The game was still scripted so nothing was random (enemy encounters that is), and the puzzles are a matter of preference and VERY similar I might add. Zombie Forest was also in the DC.

Most of the stuff you listed is also subjective as I said, so the game is neither superior or inferior to the original. A comparison is moot, and it's not going to change anyone's preference; they've been played.

I still prefer the original, the arrange mode of the DC, and the recent DS over the remake. You and the others have voted for the remake clearly have a different preference, but it doesn't change facts about either game.
