Once again, those are presentation and layout differences alongside technical ones. All a given for a remake on a more powerful hardware. The game was still scripted so nothing was random (enemy encounters that is), and the puzzles are a matter of preference and VERY similar I might add. Zombie Forest was also in the DC.

Most of the stuff you listed is also subjective as I said, so the game is neither superior or inferior to the original. A comparison is moot, and it's not going to change anyone's preference; they've been played.

I still prefer the original, the arrange mode of the DC, and the recent DS over the remake. You and the others have voted for the remake clearly have a different preference, but it doesn't change facts about either game.

Btw you said something about beginners like remake cause they didn't know the existence of the original and could not compare both. That's too relative, I played the original once when it came out, and I do still prefer the remake version and it doesn't have anything to do with the powerful hardware, the game itself was good, but they have fixed some hole plots and added stuff that made of the game a decent survival horror...

The game itself tells you everything, is a remake version, don't go trying to get a logic about it... It is better than the original cause a Remake has to be better and try not to change the original script... not just that but they improved the storyline, and added some wonderful things that made of this game the best of the series, at least for me and for that people who voted it here and on so many other forums.

If you don't like remake, don't complain... Enjoy the original and the ds version... You can feel free to play whatever you want... It's your own choice

i still think 4 just for shere replay value and the fact its prob my first proper resi i guess.... even though ganardos are a bit strange i just think its so satisfiying to blow em' up with the rocket launcher. Although i did like thr remake i only played it once for like a hour but its ok . resi 4 all the way

I started with RE2 back in 98 or 99 (when it was released on PC).
Then i played RE1. I got the remake a couple of months ago. And its my favorite RE, even tho I probably played RE2 most.

Hardly relative, and did you know that I am a die hard DOA fan but still like Tekken better? There is typically one game that gets one into a game series (mine was RE2 despite having started with the original). If you think that the presentation differences (not just graphics) didn't make a difference, you're kidding yourself. A decent looking game from 1996 (by standards then) to a great looking one in 2002. No brainer.

Presentation = graphics. Layout = mansion architecture, puzzles and flow. The changes in the story were minor and mainly there to pave a way to the scapped RE4 and fit the joke that was Wesker's Report. I've got a DOL-001, ordered in late August 2001. I've mentioned the reasons why I prefer the original, so read them over. Unsurprisingly, you'll find a great number of older fans who share my opinion.

The plot wasn't the reason I got into the series, it was the gameplay. If anyone hasn't noticed, aside from defense items, the remake has a slower paced and less challenging one compared to the DC in particular and the DS revision.

The game itself tells you everything, is a remake version, don't go trying to get a logic about it... If you don't like remake, don't complain..

Funny because I swear I said that the games are neither superior or inferior as far as gameplay or overall value goes and it's a matter of opinion. If anyone is complaining, it's you and others who took offense because it's quite shocking for someone to prefer an older game over a glorified remake that was out merely 5 years later. Incidentally, I never said I didn't like the remake so don't misinterpret posts and read them carefully.

I covered that in my first post. I realize that not everyone is a nut who played every version of each game for 30+ times, and more importantly, the impact a game can make is strong the sooner you play it. It holds true for the original more than any other game. With that said, the remake didn't do much for me because it was at core the same game but not as challenging (and the music wasn't as good IMO). I actually liked Zero better.. so open up the flood gates on that one now.

Here's my slightly messed up list of "favorites".

#1 Resident Evil Remake (Got my vote):
I've always been criticizing all sorts of stuff since I was a tiny little brat, Resident Evil 1 when it came out was no exception to me complaining about things in it.
People every darned system generation ranting about realistic presentations and god knows what.

The remake in many ways brought the game much more up to what I expect from something "big". It patched most of the holes, it freshened things up a bit so it was a somewhat new experience.
The entire presentation in overall was just so much better, and it didn't feel like something that was made on limited technology of "yesterday" and/or "today", it really was a "tomorrow" product when it came out.

#2 Resident Evil 4
So much was different and so much was pushed on this one, but unfortunately, it didn't win my vote here. Why?
'cause I would've loved to see the Mercenaries mode with a co-op feature. (I actually somewhat hoped for this when they moved RE0 to GC development too, that it'd allow for a co-op mode)

#3 Resident Evil Outbreak:
Yeah, here's where you can shoot me! I've got Outbreak on my top 3 list! The entire concept of Outbreak was just sweet, the short scenarios were also a pretty damn sweet idea. It also somewhat worked offline, though, it was hard keeping the other AI guys under control.
But yeah, on paper, Outbreak is close to a perfect idea, but in execution it was so full of design flaws.

(Might just add that #4 on my list would be RE2, followed by #5, the real wtf, Gun Survivor... maybe it was 'cause I got to play it with a GunCon when it came out in Europe... maybe it was because I for some insane reason went through it like 5~6 times during the first weekend after I got it... I dunno, the game just kinda stuck to me.)

But seriously 0 wasn't that bad But the remake was better

The game was slower because it was more polished and was smoother

The different mansion layout Does impact gameplay Becaus it incorporates different strategies

You keep mentioning the director's cut which isn't the original (but that doesn't matter)

I voted for the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2 would be right behind it though. It seems as though most people favour the first entry in the series that they played.

I think I liked the original due to the whole conspiracy, the game had a true story to it, most games and films basically tell you everything in the first 10minutes then spend the rest of the time attempting to meet up to those expectations.

i liked playing the original re better than remake too. remake bored me a little... it's one of my least played RE games, granted things were cool nothing can replace the original lol. i guess it's just some nostalgia

hurra, I'm not the only one! The remake is too, one of my least played RE games, it too bore me a little. The only reason i bought a NGC was to get the RE Remake, but i was a little disappointed at its re-play value. I bough RE: Deadly silence for the original and i could play that all the time, after RE:2 of course.

The DC is still the original game, remixed. That's a fact. Slower gameplay doesn't mean polished, it's just that: it's slower because of the animations and the pacing itself. The layout made some differences as intended (and I mentioned twice so far), but it is a remake with the core gamplay engine intact. That prompted Mikami to change the core gameplay with RE4.

We're gonna keep on moving in circles here or something? I made a clear point from the start but you two are trying to argue that I shouldn't prefer the original because the remake's presentation is better.

Let's make things simple here: I like the original and its remix because of the gameplay and to an extent, nostalgia. The series made its debut when I was 16 afterall.

im 18 now, and I was playing since 98 so ive been playing since I was almost 9...wow thats a long time! I use to be so scared and when the crows came popping out the windows on RE2, it scared the hell out of me!
