you all must be playing it wrong

me and my cousin (been with RE since the beginning and introduced me to RE) like RE4

If you look at it, it is alot like previous RE. Familiar locals, characters, themes, bad VO.
Sure it was a bit more actiony but leon is a trained government agent he's not a rookie cop anymore. The del lago boss is like Neptune, the labs feel like umbrella labs, the headshots, the enemy style (they run...sometimes and they attack smarter, other than that, Zombies), the over the top BOWs, the dark moody castle, the DOGS!, it is a resident evil game. go play it again. After you play all the others. Ive been playing RE since I was little kid. I know the game. I know the feelings. I know the fear. It is resident evil.

I love where Resident evil is going...BUT I want them to keep making classic RE games. I want a REmake of 2 and 3. I want Outbreak2. I want 1.5. I want More DS RE games. but I want RE5 as is.

I've played RE from the begining, RE1 was my first RE game and I know what an RE game feels like. To me RE4 doesn't feel like an RE game, apart from Leon and Ada, nothing in the game gives me the same feeling that the older games still do when I put them on.

I'm sorry, but I guess we're going to have agree to disagree on this one.

            Did I stutter??
            Nurse? You need EMT.

What I meant was how could anyone dislike the original hit. No need to get your knickers in a knot.

well don't you think the Remake defines the first in story and technology?

                Have you played it?

Nope, not yet, but I intend to once I find a GameCube. I'm sure it would be better in every way, but there's just that strange little point about the original RE being just that, original, that makes it the best.

@UBCS: Nope, do you have it? I'd love to have a listen.

@BLSR1: The original still scares the shit out of me. Barry's voice acting is the scariest thing in the whole RE series :p

Ah, the old 'which is worst debate'...
My 2 least favorite would be Survivor 2 and RE-CV. I could go on a rant explaining why but I think I've given reasons before in earlier posts.
But I still like both of those games, just not as much as I love the others. I own and have conquered, many times over, all the games (except Gaiden) and various versions of them all.
I'd have to disagree on the criticisms about RE4. I still clearly remember the 1st time I played it. Stepping out of the jeep, walking a few steps then holding aim and looking around. A huge grin spread across my face... Yeah baby, this is F**king Cool!!! It WAS Resident Evil 'but not as we know it'. I think it has lots of RE elements in it. Not just the characters but pausing the game to enter your inventory, ammo, herbs, life gauge, etc... I think it's not just the best RE but the best GAME ever made.
It IS different and a lot more action orientated. But I loved it and I certainly consider myself a 'true fan'.
Capcom couldn't keep making the same old games over and over. The Outbreak games were the last time they tried and although I loved them, a lot of people didn't. They were spat upon in the press and most critics/people had decided that the tired old RE formula had run out of steam and it was the end for the series. The old games will always be there for us true fans to enjoy but I can't see them returning to the 'old ways'.
RE4 was a HUGE success in terms of popularity, industry awards and sales (sales are obviously the all important thing).
RE-UC is their way of squeezing some more juice from the old stories but obviously they didn't return to the old play style but instead made an arcade shooter that's easy for anyone to pick up and play.
I sometimes wonder if some people hate RE4 because it's so popular. If it was an obscure game that was ignored by the press and the 'masses' I suspect some of these same critics would be talking about how brilliant it is (pure speculation on my part).
For those who hate it, "Quit living in the past, man!" (I'm kidding... I love living in the past too but I still like RE4)

No you can say what you want.. But it more feels like playing Metal Gear Solid than playing Resident Evil. Just like i said..it was not a bad game, it was good..
But it sucked as a Resident Evil... When i play RE1, RE2, RE3, RE0, CV or the Remake i get the typical RE feeling.. RE4 hasnt had it at all.. They sticked to a few standard RE features in 4 because they knew they had already changed so much in it, that many fans would be really pissed off by it. It's also paradox toi use the old character but then change so much else.. I mean whats the point in saying "yeah we wanted something new than zombies.." but then sticking to ada, leon and co.. I know its nice to see them again..but i wanna see them again in a real Resident Evil... not in a Metal Gear Like game..with roundhouse-kick action..

Rescuing the presidents daughter..man that was the biggest shit... That sounded so much like a run-of-the-mill hollywood low-budget action-movie to me... It was disappointing to me. I expected a Resident Evil..not some game that claims to be a RE or uses the name of RE to get better sales...

I have said exactly that before in this situation, its not a bad game, its just a bad Resident Evil game.
