  • That's fairly interesting

I thought I'd start a thread, similar to the glitches/mistakes thread, but with things intentionally programmed into the games, that normal players might not find, that may make you say "That's fairly interesting!"

Some examples I can think of

In the original Resident evil, if you attack the mutant plant in the greenroom enough times there is a message saying it's not effective (I can't remember the exact quote).

In the extreme battle mode in RE2, Ada has her own knife-attack animations. Her middle attack is a two-handed thrust/stab. I thought that was pretty neat to see.

Making the zombie appear in the dining room in Resident Evil (I believe it can be done in the remake) in Jill's scenario. I've forgetten exactly how this is done.

I'd though of some others, but forgotten them. I'll post more as they come to me, and as I replay the games.

    EDIT: Just remembered two more

If you kill Nosferatu with a knife in Code Veronica X (and CV I believe), you get a special cutscene.

If you hit Nosferatu in the heart just right with the sniper rifle, you get a special cutscene.

The Nosferatu thing was amusing as hell. I've only beaten Code:Veronica a handful of times, and never tried that.

For the zombie to enter the dining room, you mean the one where it comes in and Barry kills it? You just need to leg it from the first fight. You'll loose the extra ammo Kenneth's corpse has on it. Apparently a few seconds are enough to scarf them down.

Just go from barry to the main hall door over and over again. Barry will say "lost courage already? Its not like you" and repeating it after this will make the zombie burst in.

I never noticed Ada had a different knife.

The special scenes with Ashford in Code Veronica are indeed in the original. I always do the sniper thing, it's the quickest way to kill him (three shots). I only ever did the knife thing once when we were making the old original guide for the game back in 2000 which I was creating for NB at the time.

Claire does a 2 handed thrust stab... unless you mean Ada does one differently.

As for the dining room thing. Try going back to the main hall twice, then walk near the grandfather clock (I did this the very first time I played RE ).

Anyways, to add to this: Supposedly, if you drop a blood pack in "Underbelly" with Mark and adlib, he'll say "I hope this isn't Chris's blood" as an in-joke (I don't use Mark, so someone would have to confirm this)

I didn't know that about Claire's knife. I'll have to check that.

Yeah. I should have been clearer RE: The zombie in the dining room. You go back to the mail hall, in a cutscene Jill will speak to Wesker. Then, you try and go to the main hall, and Barry will quip about you having lost confidence or something. Then you walk past the grandfather clock, and the zombie will enter the dining room, and Barry kills it. (Original and REmake)

After searching for Wesker in the main hall, if you go and find Kenneth's body, his legs will be missing, and he won't have two handgun magazines (Original only)

The PAL outbreak file 1 had the ad-libs disabled (because there was no online play anyway, and it was probably a faster way to get rid of the Alyssa bug), so I never knew about Mark in The Hive. I'd love to know if it's true.

Cool thread! There are a lot of these types of things. I'll have to put my thinking cap on to come up with some other examples...
I also like how some of the extra costumes can change the games. Sometimes just in the way the character holds or fires a gun but in the most dramatic example: Ashley's suit of armor in RE4. It's fun not having to worry about her, as enemies crumple under her weight if they try to pick her up, you can shoot her with anything (it's too funny how her faceplate comes down when you point a gun at her face ) and Leon hurts his back when he catches her from a height. Although it's annoying listening to her squeaking every time she moves (Shhh, I'm trying to be quiet!).

Yup. I didn't even mis-read it. I scan read it, and look like an idiot. Oh well.
I've been proved wrong on the Ada-knife thing too, so I feel like a real dolt. Sorry guys

                      Anyway.

In the battle game in Code Veronica X (Not sure about the DC original), there are certain points where if you check something, the character will do a special animation. I can't remember them, but I think Steve shakes the drink machine in the locker room? I think Wesker checks his hair in the mirror? It's been ages since I played the mini game. I'll try look them up and list them here.

I thought Wesker took off his shades at the medical dummy?

If you play as Claire in her skimpy outfit and go idle in the freezer hallway she shivers after a while.
