  • Wesker's involvement with the U.S. government and other stories

Here's something which I initially posted over at the Project Umbrella forums and the reH community, and now it's making the rounds over on this turf. Hope you don't me presenting you with some delicious copypasta, but I'd like to get as many opinions as I can about this, from a number of sources. While I don't hold much faith with reH, maybe I'll get some better responses over here.

    ----

Looking at Leon's RE3 Epilogue of the original Japanese, it's said that Leon was essentially blackmailed into assisting the U.S. government, in exchange for Sherry's safety - who they threatened to kill if Leon didn't comply to their demands. However, looking at Wesker's Report I, it's very likely that Wesker himself is in possession of Sherry. So, my question is this - What if Wesker and the U.S. government were working together in some aspect or another?

Either the U.S. government were bluffing, or Wesker has some form of connection with them. Afterall, I think the U.S. government realised that Umbrella had gotten out of control. They had probably funded Umbrella in the past, most likely from some Pentagon black budget, but in recent years they had begun to get involved with things that jeopardised the secrecy of the project. With the Raccoon City incident being the final straw. As a result, you had these two powerful forces - previously working in tandem, now fighting each other in a lengthy court battle. Thanks to Spencer's finances, Umbrella managed to shift some of the blame on to the U.S. government. However, I think that Wesker has had dealings with the U.S. government, such as testifying against Umbrella. How else would he gain possession of Sherry?

    We gotta consider the following:

    - Wesker's connection to the U.S. government
    - The possibility that Wesker took Sherry into his care, from Birkin
    - The relationship between Wesker and Ada
    - How Wesker gained possession of Sherry, if he gained possession

    - Wesker's Report I
    - Leon's RE3 Epilogue

In addition to this, we have the elusive "Organisation" - a mysterious group which at present we know very little about. All we know is that at some point, Wesker was involved in their operations, and that Ada is a fully fledged member of the group. That's another thing which intrigues me, the relationship between Ada and Wesker. If I had to hazard a wild guess, I would assume that some kind of platonic relationship was developed between the two, both of them using the other to achieve their ends. Ada's loyalties are set with the Organisation, but we still don't know what she wants from all of this. As for Wesker, it's apparent that he has no obligations to anyone. Personally, I believe the Organisation to be a division of the U.S. government. Think of this: Wesker works with the Organisation (U.S. government), uses his experience and knowledge to inform them of Umbrella's history, their plans and other items of notable importance. During this time, he becomes acquainted with Ada. The Organisation use Wesker's information to stage their own plan of attack against Umbrella, to bring down this rather ugly leftover from the Cold War - a black budget project which has outlasted its purpose to the U.S. government. Unfortunately for them, Umbrella had grown powerful over the years and was now in effect the equivalent of a small country. This is where Raccoon City comes in, which as I mentioned earlier, was the final straw.

Following what happened in 1998, the U.S. government cuts all ties with Umbrella, destroying all records and traces of their involvement with the company. Throughout 1998, Wesker remains part of the Organisation (U.S. government), he states "something" about Sherry - who is in the custody of the U.S. government, as per Leon's RE3 Epilogue and mentions this in Wesker's Report I. Wesker pretty much uses the Organisation/U.S. govt as a means of destroying Umbrella, since they have the resources to take down such a behemoth of a corporation. In 2003, he personally heads out to the last stronghold of Umbrella, eliminates Sergei and acquires all of the data on Umbrella's research. Now that he has no further use for them, he abandons the Organisation/U.S. govt and takes control of the remnants of Umbrella's assets, he also enters talks with another pharmaceutical company, called 'S'.

With the sanctuary of the old Umbrella ruined, those in power struggled to erect a new one. They are aware of their own crookedness and deceit as they engage in their own personal war of light and darkness.
2004. Wesker has formally inherited Umbrella's dark legacy and is in the process of rebuilding a new Umbrella, one under his leadership. The U.S. government/Organisation begin to stage their new war against a new Umbrella, but this time very much a covert one - using Ada as their weapon. As it stands, there are a number of intricate relationships going on, with Wesker fighting a war on numerous fronts. He's got the Organisation snapping at his heels, with Ada intent on outmaneuvering him into defeat, and finally there's Spencer, who still remains at large.

Well, there goes another topic which initially had some form of structure to it, but instead devolved into string of thoughts and theories. Nevertheless, feel free to add your own opinions to the mix.

    Verynice

Now there is a possibility that wesker obtained sherry through legal means. You have to consider that him and birkin WERE best friends.

    Maybe He was her godfather

Do you have a translation of this? I'd be really interested to see the differences. Ada's might also be worth looking at.
You can't even be sure that Ada Wong is her real name, at least from the epilogue.
Sherry's says that she's in government care. She's talking with an Army officer.

Stepping out-of-universe for a moment, you've got to remember that when RE2 and RE3 were released. Wesker probably wasn't behind the scenes running the show. That all came about when it was made explicit in Wesker's Report I.

In the Biohazard Code: Veronica Complete guidebook, there are character concept arts, with Wesker's dated 1998.6.13. That date is considerably earlier then other arts ('Hilda' (Alexia) is pictured, dated 1999.1.27. Alfred is 1999.05). Chris also has an early one. They are the same arts in 'Archives', but the images in archives have the dates removed.

Biohazard 3 was released in Japan on 22nd of September, 1999.
So there would be plenty of time to factor him in to the continuity of Bio3, but I sincerely doubt they did. Simply because if they had put that much thought into it (over a year), Wesker's report wouldn't have been the complete dog's breakfast that it was. Having Wesker as an appearing Character in Code Veronica, and having him as the mastermind of the whole series are two different things, which I'm well aware of when citing the above dates.

In short, I wouldn't be surpised if it all doesn't mesh together nicely

Back in universe now. If you're keen on exlporing Wesker's relationship with Ada, look at Wesker's report II. Remember, it was all sent to her, and intercepted by some other party. Quoting the report "The report was addressed to Aida [sic] Wong, but we have no details of this person". So you can take that as either yet another agency involved, or Aida is infact a fake name (which her epilogue in RE3 suggests), and this organization (maybe one we already know about) possibly has files about her, but with a different name. Wether Ada actually got a copy of the report also is not known, or if it was intercepted before she could read it.

I'm fairly certain the conversation with Leon was the officer blackmailing him to kill Sherry if he didn't agree.

I'm wonder if "Ada's" statement, "But as the morning arrives she bids farewell to that name.(...) This morning, the woman called Ada Wong is gone", is still valid.
Was there anyone else, besides Leon, who called called her that in RE4 and UC?

Thanks for all the responses. Not surprisingly, I didn't get much back from the one I made on the reH forums. It's too early in the morning for me to make any lengthy post, I do apologise.

I'll have to watch the scenes where she speaks to Luis. From memory both Krauser and Wesker know her as Ada, but I don't know if there is actual direct evidence of them naming her that. Surely she couldn't play it both ways, if Wesker knows her as Ada, and Krauser knows her as something different, surely they'd find out (they were obviously in contact. ie. the line "I've known Wesker longer than you have" [maybe slightly different]. If one introduced the other to Wesker, they obviously wouldn't have to be reminded of that).

Still, I doubt that Ada is actually her real name. Yet she sure has been using that ruse alot. John the researcher in the original RE1 ('effective' when the RE3 epilogue was written), also knew her as Ada.

The question is what is Ada really working for? "maybe the same agency as Hunk?" apart for some retribution for John and her obvious interest in Leon also what is the benefit of Wesker having the president's daughter what is Wesker ultimate goal cos it isn't money is he just a murdering bastard? or has he lost his mind like that female scientist in executor.
If he had a brain, he'd be dangerous.

HUNK worked for Umbrella, we don't know who he works for now though.

also what is the benefit of Wesker having the president's daughter
Wesker didn't care about Ashley at all. =P

                  what is Wesker ultimate goal
                  We have no idea yet.

Then why hire Krauser just to keep Leon out the picture while Ada stole the sample? I don't think Wesker wanted Leon dead he has an obsession with combat data you know so he'd be worth more alive.

Wesker used Krauser to eliminate Leon because he knew that Ada was close to Leon, and as such could not be depended upon to kill him. She had failed to do it before. I'm sure that Krauser's objective was the same as Ada's, to secure the sample from Saddler.

Krauser commonly referred to her as the "bitch in the red dress" and Wesker always used "you", AFAIR.
In Umbrella Chronicles "Death's Door" Chapter, Wesker calls her "Ada".

That just prove that UC storyline is shit

But really, I've just went through entire script of RE4 (thanks GameFAQs and people, who have time to write down all dialogues ) and as Prime Blue have said, only Leon called her "Ada".
