  • Resident Evil 4 PC

So I'm in this Resident Evil fix and started playing Resident Evil 4 again on the Wii. So I found the PC version for $20 and thought "hey what the heck lets order it". So my copy arrives today and I couldn't help but notice that the atmosphere of the game is so bright. Other than that the game has been running pretty well. The modding community has really done a lot to make this game shine. Like Spooky Fox's movie mod and Albert's Improved Textures mod.

Here is a picture of the game in action:

Unlimited space to host images, easy to use image uploader, albums, photo hosting, sharing, dynamic image resizing on web and mobile.

Only bummer is I had to use a no-cd with the game. Perhaps my drive is giving out but the game would crash so many times with the disc in the drive. Plus having to put a cd code in was odd too. They should only do that for online games. Other than that I'm impressed with the job Ubisoft did my only regret is I wish the game looked darker like the GameCube and Wii versions. What are you thoughts? Did you guys like the PC version?

Yeah it looks really washed out.
I'm currently working on a Play as Ramon Salazar mod.
If he had a brain, he'd be dangerous.

It looks to me you have unpatched version of the game (v1.0, released in Europe and Asia) - there were no lighting and shadows, so everything was very bright. You need to download patch, or, if you will be downloading albert's latest mod -hi-res hud, menus etc., use v1.1 exe that is included in the mod. The game will look a lot better than.

Truth be told when I got m y hands on the PC version and upgraded it with the patches and whatnot, it really didn't seem all that different to me graphically with exception to some smoothed over textures.

I have the US version. From what I read the US version was patched before being released here in the states. However I read some mixed review that say the game may have not been patched. I can't install the European patch because I get an error that tells me "there is no game that needs to be patched".

          Edit:

Wow what a difference. I used the .EXE you suggested and now the game looks better than before.

I wonder why Ubisoft does not have a patch for the US version. How strange of them not to offer the patch. Can the contents of the patch be extracted somehow? The patch is like 70+ Megs but the .EXE is only 6+ Megs. Unless Albert’s patch already addresses all of those issues.

            Your game looks unpatched..

Since you have the US version, try uninstalling it and re-installing it again.

The US version should be patched from the beginning; after all that's why the game was released so late in US - because Ubisoft waited for v1.1 patch. It's strange that your version was unpatched.

Thanks for the tips guys. Looks like I'm just a little late to the party. This was all cover already almost a year ago.

kevstah2004, is it difficult to make a mod for this game? I use a GameCube controller on my PC and was wondering how easy or difficult it would be to modify the GameCube buttons in place of the standard ones used in the PC port.

If you hate putting in cds to play the game but have some spare space on your computer, just use some burning tool like ultraiso to make an image of the disk and another tool to mount the image like http://arainia.com/software/gizmo/overview.php?nID=4 . You can play cd protected games without the stupid disk. Makes life much better. But you said you used a no-cd. If the no-cd crack messes up the game in any way, mounting a disk image will always work perfectly.

I've never played the pc version but has anybody made a mod to play multiplayer mercenaries mode co-op style? That would be fun.

I use Daemon Tools for CD images if I need to use them for older CD games that absolutely require a CD, like the older Tomb Raider games. Thanks for the suggestion; I'll look into that software in case I run into issues with Daemon Tools. I may try that out since the game tends to crash at random intervals but then again it could be all the modifications I added as well. I just find it much easier to get a patch instead since images take up so much space.

If you use cracked exe file (and those in albert's hi-res menus patch are all cracked) you don't need your dvd with game anymore ;). The game puts all its files on your hard drive and it works properly without RE4 DVD in dvd-drive.

Can you take pictures of the disc and case? If it is a US release and is unpatched, I'd be very interested in obtaining a copy. Lemme know where you bought it?

I don't think his disc is unpatched, I've heard others experiencing the same issue but it was fixed by re-installing the game (or by applying the correct No-DVD crack for v1.1)

                              *repeating for the n-th time*
Ubisoft did not port the game; they had nothing to do with developing PC version of RE4. They just published it in US and Europe - that's it. The one that is responsible for this awful port is SourceNext.
