They're probably weighed down by by all their body armor, ammunition, and weapons. Plus I believe wet firearms don't always operate properly.

Or turn back and try to jump down the hole where the lift is, but because its on the bottom floor to start with you can just hop down or something.
The lift is actually high enough to break a leg or injure you on a bad landing. And its hard stone on the bottom floor. They would be hurt, dazed and unprepared for a moment at which point the dogs in that room would eat them.

Would you wanna risk a broken limb or malfunctioning gun in a Mansion full of undead flesh eaters?

The door is locked. You need the Helmet key to open it... or you can just try to shoot the doorknob off you retard. >_>

I always end up with too many Beretta bullets near the end of the game. They should have an option to shoot or unlock the lock.

They should use their knife then. The doors in the mansion are old anyway, you can probably pry one open with enough force. That or punch through the plaster walls. XD

It would take away a lot of the challenge of the game. Now, if there was a tryant style unbeatable monster stalking you that would be possibly attracted by smashing a lock...that could make it more fair.

But I always figured, in a mansion designed to keep the secrets of an evil corportion, the locks and doors are going to be a little different. Maybe a thin sheet of steel and those locks where you lock it and about six bolts lock the door, rather than one.

It's not like anyone was trying to uncover their secrets anyway since Umbrella was pulling some major strings in the government. The STARS team wouldn't have even been dispatched to the mansion if they weren't going to be used as battle-data-gathering guinea pigs. Also, most of their secrets were hidden underground in the labs. I don't think anyone would have found out about it anyway with the wacky traps and puzzles needed to get their (elevator submerged under a fountain which can only be accessed by going through a hidden mine which can only be accessed by closing the water reservoir and by finding a spare heavy-duty battery needed to use the lift... you get the point).

Im pretty sure the locks have bolts. if you shot the doorknob it would probably make the door unusable.

Like when the doorknob in REmake breaks and you can't use that door again until Barry fixes it.

Also does shooting the doorknob even work IRL?

I always thought of the doors working electronically. The various keys activate the door and cause the bolts to retract. Why else would there only be 4 types of locks. And it can also explain why zombies didn't break the locked doors down.

Mythbusters tried lock shooting, a pistol couldn't do it, a magnum couldn't do it, 25 blasts from a shotgun only succeeding in damaging the lock to the point where even the key wouldn't open it. It doesn't work nearly the way it does in movies and video games...

Doesn't Barry shoot out the lock in the remake when Jill nearly becomes a Jill sandwich??

You can get there from the heliport, in but the game the door is welded shut (IIRC).

Yeah, so you have to go through the mine.

                                Jill: "It's awful!"

Every time Barry says "Oh my god!" I piss myself. The way he says it is so funny, and that's why I love those Resident Gigalo clips
