Hey, I never said that the movies were any good. I'd rather pop my eyeballs out than watch Apocolypse again. I just meant that the first movie wasn't too bad, canon wise, since it took place in seperate facilities to those in RE1 and RE2. I could certainly believe Umbrella would have a second underground facility, and the explanation for the black Licker and Nemesis were, at the time, fine.

But yeah, the movies and the games should never meet. The storyline for the games is concufsing, convulated and been re-done several times...whereas the storyline for the movies is, 'Alice is awesome, watch her be awesome now.'

Why isn't it a reference? It doesn't take too many brain cells to figure out that Alexi means Alexia.

PS: I didn't think any of the movies were half-bad except for the corny script in the first Resident Evil.

In the game, unless you pay careful attention to details, it's very easy to miss the "G" at the beginning of the word. You would just read the rest of the word, "A L A X I E - 5 0 0 0". When said aloud, it would sound like "Alexi"

Plus, to top it off, in an interview with director/producer, Paul Anderson, and the former general manager of Capcom, Yoshiki Okamoto, Anderson stated that :

I created background sets which make the person who already played the game feel like "I've seen this place before." The train running underground came from Resident Evil 2. I made an exterior, interior and even Umbrella logo completely similar to the game ... I remember, in the meeting with Mr. Okamoto, he wanted to put something from the game in to the movie.

I like the plot of the games. It's fun.

Now the plot of the movies is just plain retarded.

I think Darkmoon said it best, "the storyline for the movies is, 'Alice is awesome, watch her be awesome now.'" lol

This is precisely why it baffles me when I hear (or read) people say that only hardcore fans of the source material should be the ones making the movies. If anyone has ever read fanfiction before, more often than not, it amounts to little more than "so-and-so is awesome, watch him/her be awesome now." That's precisely what the movies are (and S.D. Perry's books, for that matter, but I digress): glorified fanfiction.

Obviously there are exceptions, but even some of the best writers out there can fall victim to it. For example, look at Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men. Quite possibly the best written X-Men arc since the late 80s/early 90s, but even it can essentially be summed up as "Kitty Pryde is awesome, watch her be awesome now."

Frankly, I don't think anyone could make a Resident Evil movie that would please everyone. I'd be willing to bet that just as many people would complain about George Romero's RE movie had it been made instead of Paul Anderson's, because, while it was much closer to the first game, it also took some significant creative liberties.

Personally, the closer something is to the source material, the more pronounced even the smallest changes are, and I think that would have been the case with George Romero's interpretation. But that's just me.

I'd have had less issues with the movies if they'd been, well, good movies. The first one had no horror. The second had plotholes you can pilot the titanic through and, of course, carefully shunts off anyone who actually has anything to do with RE so Alice can show off more.

I wasn't expecting them to meet the plot of the games directly, since a game works so differently from a movie. But they could have at least managed some scary.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a RE movie akin to the Dawn of the Dead remake a few years back. Resident Evil 3 would have made a good action movie, they should have gone that route, imho...

AH... Forget it people. It was said a southand times before, but I will say that again. Resident evil movie can be good only for people that haven't played the game. Because in case if did played the game this movie is a complite disaster. It is bad and it will get even worse after Extinction, because there is the 4th part in the near future. Get ready for the real shit.

I thought the fourth part, the one set in Japan, had been cancelled...or at least put on hold, to be replaced with Degeneration?

If the 4th part is canseled than it is great. But degeneration have nothing to do with live-action movies. Espesualy replasing one to another.

Degeneration takes place in the same cannon as the games.

I heard Milla didn't want to do these movies anymore. If I were the director/producer for the next movie, I'd go back to the roots of Resident Evil and instead of making a fan ficion based game, make one that is cannon. Perhaps from the vantage point of say Birkin?

That'd be innovative and something not done with the series yet.

You'd have a tri-plotline as the main characters would be Birkin, Leon, and Claire. The movie would start off on the week before Birkin was attacked, lead up to the attack by Hunk and his team, and then switch over to Claire/Leon's story. Half way through the movie, the camera would take on a first person view of Birkin walking around the sewers and into the RPD. He encounters Ben, and then infects Brian. He then encounters Leon in the sewers, etc, etc...

Well I still dont understand why the makers of RE movies desided to make such a crapy story with crapy caracters, instead of taking canonic script of the original game. Ofcourse budget is one of the mane reasons, but they atleast could save the original heroes like Chris etc. Ah, nothing can excuse them

They thought it would sell well, and be more accesible to non-fans of the series...and they were right. Which is annoying because it led the way to Apocolypse, one of the blights on existence that must be purched with fire.
