Yup. And if BLSR1 would care to try and argue why RE4 is a good RE game (rather than being a good game but a bad RE) then that's great, and I'd love to do it, as I love to debate and discuss. So far the best person I've seen to so is Rosetta Mist and her explanation on how it's an evolotion, with which I partially agree.

Its also a good RE game and Ive argued this in another thread. The only problems with it being a bad RE game is a) lack of puzzles and b) plentiful ammo. Besides those minor complaints it is one of the best Resident evil games and helped save the series from obscurity, most of the common complaints of RE4 are BS because they are also in RE3.
Well, I wasn't aware RE needed it. If it did and since it worked...great. That doesn't make it a good RE game, however. A good financial decision, yeah. The game was an incredible financial success. However, the Resident Evil movies are also a good financial and I think we pretty much universally agree that financially succesful is the only accolade the movies can collect.
Edit: Yes, BLSR1, it's a great game. I'm arguing it's a poor RE, but I think it's an excellent game. I own both the GameCube and Wii version, both bought new.

1 - There is a lack of horror. The enemies are less scary (my opinion, I admit) and the vast ammount of ammo and the sheer increase in both enemy numbers and the encounters make people less afraid. So far the only two things I've heard people say was scary are the Ovenman and the Regerators. Combine it with the fact the next area you enter almost always contains enemies (many areas in the other RE's don't) and I feel it's simply not as scary.
2 - The storyline is barely linked to the game. The side games are far more relevant to the main story than the actual game is.
3 - There is no exploration. You go from point A to B to C and that's it. And you always know where you're going. This was deffintely a problem in RE3 as well.
4 - The puzzles are poor. They're almost all fetch the key and you're usually given the key very, very quickly.
Of course, several of the older RE's have issues too. I'm not a huge fan of RE3 either, for example. But I do find it scarier than RE4, partially because of Nemesis' stalking. And the zombies.
I do love me some zombies.
We seem to already agree on point 4 so I'd love to hear your thoughts on the others.
I agree with both Darkmoon and BLSR. There is no doubt RE4 is a great game. Series wise though, it lags. I have copies of RE4 for GC, PS2 (both were the special releases from Gamestop), and for Wii. I'm not going to spend that much money on something if I didn't like it.
RE4 could have been so much more. I would have liked to learn a bit more about Luis, Krauser, and Saddler. How the hell did Saddler manage to build a facility that big and no one know? Who was his backer? One of the obvious answers for that would be Salazar, but in a modern world, I doubt the Salazar family had too much power. How did they come to discover the plaga? How long had they been researching it? Even in RE1, you had some sense that the Raccoon research facility had been in existance for a long time.
Krauser was obviously augmented before the plaga, since in Ada's report she mentions she knows about his arm and how to deal with him. If Krauser was so important he understood Wesker's ideas for the new Umbrella, why didn't we learn at least a little more about how that came to be. At least with Nicholai in RE3, Outbreak, and UC, we learned that he had connections.
All that aside, I still think 4 was a great game. Most people complain that the enemies were boring, and I agree for the most part. The U-3 and the novistators were moderately clever. While they weren't exactly scary, the first run in with the novistators gave that feel of the older RE games since you really didn't know where they were going to spring up next.
i didnt think he had built the facility, i assumed it was an abandoned factory of some sort or it was occupied but sadler infected them all to gain control
Thank you Rosetta. That sums up what I've been trying to say...badly...for a while. I need more sleep. And to type less. 1,500 words a day plus a whole bunch of other things seems to be taking all my typing skill away. That and my lack of sleep error.
