well the main reason I got into the whole RE franchise in the first place was because of the zombies but been honest I hated RE to begin with found them too scary(growing up I overcame that fear >.<) After that I played each one, first starting on 2 working my way back to 1 then carrying on etc till ya reach 4. I'm looking forward to 5 but after been at uni for 2 years studying how to make games i've started thinking from a technical POV, so i'm looking forward to the climate system, seeing how many more enemies can be shoved on a screen etc, I wasn't disappointed in 4 because of the massive leap into action horror, using the behind the character cam it was new and unique to a resi game. In my opinion the reason why they changed the whole concept from survival horror to action horror was to get a whole new group of fans, obviously these new ones either went back into the series or are just carrying on waiting for re5. But I was blown away by how screwed up they made umbrella chronicles, it destroyed the whole Resi timeline so for complete novices to the series characters from the old games the veteran fans grew up with don't exist and they tried combining action horror with survival horror, which kinda gets confusing to a degree.

I think the RE formula needed to be changed and RE 4 was a great game. The problem is some older fans of the series were disappointed due to the fact that so much of what make RE survival horror was missing. I think everyone has to wait till RE 5 to see where capcom is going to decide if RE is dead or back better than ever.

I know but I just copied the award list because I do remember it getting most of those awards and I didn't care enough to copy all of them. Also that is from a different article.
RE4 is still great, I agree that it could have been more. But thats why i'm excited for RE5. RE4 was an experiment and RE5 can do nothing but improve upon it.

I know. I was making the wiki comment more for people that go there looking for the games' facts. Several people have gone there before looking for the histories of characters and events, and they havent always been accurate.sigpic
Are you tired, Rebecca?

I don't complain about the style of play...
I complain the story was boring, bad; the puzzles were pretty much gone.
And the zombies I came to love died off.
If RE4 was set in another zombie epilouge, I woulda been happy.
Call me whiney if you must, I don't hate RE4 either, I love it like you guys, I was just dissapointed with the scenario, the enemies and the amount of action replaced over horror, I completed it when I was about...10 on my own...I needed help from my brothers on the others.

Please be more respectful to people. Saying you didn't read their post because its long is just not good behavior.
I pretty much agree with what Gene said on page 1. Good comments. As for sexualizing the women, I guess that really can't be helped. We are talking about a game developed by Japanese people afterall. That isn't supposed to be racist or anything, but its pretty well known that Japan over-sexualizes women. Plus you have to factor in the demographic, which are teenagers. I'm sure thats not helping either.
Since this turned into an RE4 centric topic, I'll just say that I think its a great game, but the plot and lack of ties to previous games in the series fell flat on me. In that regard I don't think it was a good Resident Evil game (pertaining to story here, the primary reason I come to the series). While I say that, I can still see its a great game which is a lot of fun to play.
To everyone: Try to be more polite to one another. I hate to see people arguing and calling each other names. It doesn't matter who started it, just take the higher road and ignore it.Last edited by Dot50Cal; 06-24-2008, 06:25 PM.

As Ive said before it relies more on panic and confusion. Its scary because you don't know whats coming up from behind you, whether or not Ashley is safe, how many more enemies are left, is that next kill going to sprout giant tentacles, what are the enemies around you are saying, where could that next throwing sickle come from, and is that a chainsaw I hear in the distance.
It loses it's scare factor in multiple replays, but so do the other games in the series.
The mercenaries minigame is one of the scariest parts of the game because it emphasizes those fears.

the merceneries is something fun though as a bonus, plus you finally get to play as wesker for a while.
Just while we are on the subject of the merceneries does anybody know what you get if you get five stars on each stage with each character or something like that.
It says there is a bonus to get but it seems just too hard to get this, ive been trying for ages but there are just some levels where i simply cant do it
