I like both gameplay styles, but I'm more interested in the story and plotline and how questions in the series will be resolved. I'll see how it is when I buy it in March.

I'm gonna hold my breath on it, buy it then play it for storyline only, I loved all the old Resi games if it weren't for them I wouldn't have started writing up the idea for a survival horror based game I wanna make someday, but after 4 came out I really didn't know what to say about it. It was a good game but everything that made Resi, Resi didn't exist it was all action horror, all hitting buttons to do things, no puzzle exploration and the enemies well I dunno they were worthy, which is why i'm holding my breath on this one.

Having seen more and more, as I've mentioned elsewhere, it's obvious the game isn't aimed at RE fans but the group of people Capcom feel are most likely to buy a game...that is 12-13 year old boys who love shooting things down with tons and tons of guns and seeing boobies when at all possible, even when they're no good reason. Not that all thirteen year old boys do that...I know I didn't...but that seems to be who it's aimed at.

You're pretty much echoing my feelings on it, Weed. I still get excited at the trailers, but thats mostly because I have to get them up on THIA for everyone to see. I would feel a lot better if so many things weren't recycled from Resident Evil 4. Probably the biggest disappointment for me in this latest trailer was the El Gigante appearing again. I mean, what is the point? Why can they not create a different looking large creature?

Dot, you mean the re5 giant monster seen in the first variation of E3 trailer, code name elgigante, was actualy shown... like whole? I thought they shown only a giant foot that is about to step on to one of the BSAA members.Last edited by Nomad9026; 07-17-2008, 12:19 PM."Barry never vanished from the series. If it comes out for PC, I'll give it a try, but fuck it otherwise. The PC port better not be another RE4 disaster, or someone's gonna get a kick in the nuts.
In fact, a PC version might end up being a cold slap in the face of console owners like DMC4. Not only does that one have a technical advantage, they added an extra difficulty and a much-needed Turbo mode.

Unless it's story related then I think the recycled parts from RE4 will be modified by the time the game is released as this is a big game for Capcom. Even RE4 gamers don't have such short memories.. The only question is how much modification will they do.
How complete is RE5 anyway?

The game will go gold around December / January time, right? It must be pretty complete conceptually and I am pretty sure they should just be doing a few more areas and then HOPEFULLY touching up animations to make them look better.
I sincerely hope all the RE4 mimicry is removed by the time it's released.

I feel the same as most of you...disappointed in the fact that as of right now, it seems as if RE5 hasn't progressed much from RE4.
BUT...do you remember RE2? When that came out, it was basically the exact same thing as RE1 (with new storyline, new characters, new enemies, new locale). I don't remember any groundbreaking changes - other than Mr.X following you, or the alternate story mode (Leon A, Claire B, etc).
So why all the complaints when RE4:RE5 = RE1:RE2? The developers take something that works and tweak it.
I also miss the zombies, some puzzles (the ones that made a little sense regarding a realistic world), darkness, tight corridors, and limited ammo.
RE4 implemented a new gameplay mechanic, which we all seem to agree the series needed. The storyline, on the other hand, was awful. And Leon was an unsympathetic character (he felt no fear, had lame one-liners, did matrix flips and piourettes, and was indestructible). Plus, there were very few horror moments (sure, there were lots of monsters, but the player never really felt "scared").
I will try to reserve judgment for the time being, since I have yet to play RE5 (which I will do, day 1). But I think the RE series could take some RE4 developments, and mix them successfully with some early RE elements to make a perfect survival horror game to appease new and old fans.
RE4 controls, limited ammo, darkness, being enclosed in a building/city (something with tight corridors to restrict movement and leave very few places to run away), more enemies (as long as they are all undead enemies), faster enemies (crimson heads or zombies like in the dawn of the dead remake), the need to often run away from danger (rather than just having a ton of ammo and shooting your way through like in RE4), returning characters (please no more new ones), puzzles that make sense in the real world, some genuinely scary moments...
Well, that's all I can think of for right now, but things like that could really rejuvinate the franchise in perhaps the way we're all seeking...Last edited by Jill's Boob; 07-17-2008, 08:56 PM.

While I agree with you on your views of RE4 Jill's Boob, you have to look at when the first two games were made. That was over ten years ago. Making a video game was a lot different back then. Back then, it was the puzzles and story lines that drew people in. Sure the update in graphics was great too, but the exact gameplay wasn't expected to change that much.
But like I said...I agree with you about Leon. He has always annoyed me as a character. His bad attitude came off more as a joke, and whenever Ada made the scene he instantly turned to jelly. "She's a part of me I can't let go." The whole relationship thing...I just don't understand it. Two people falling in love (despite the fact that one is outright lying and using the other) in such hellish situations and knowing each other propbably about 12 hours total (combining the time of both games). It just doesn't make any sense at all. Whenever Ada is around, Leon is a complete wuss and when she's gone he's back to being Superman.
I sure hope RE5 doesn't try that with Chris. True Chris has always had that 'white knight' appeal to him but he has always had a bit more experience, and the people he was always wanting to save were people he knew and cared for. It will be interesting to see how the relationship between Chris and Sheva unfolds during the game. I'm hoping Capcom won't try to go for another romance. I think crap like that takes away from the overall feel of things.sigpic

Two people falling in love (despite the fact that one is outright lying and using the other)
If we, as individuals, sought love with an "open book" approach, do you really think anyone would find it? Personally, if I were trying to find a mate and they told me their whole life story and what their cat "Fluffy" likes in the first conversation we had, I would run like hell and never look back.
Of course, neither Leon or Ada were looking for love to begin with, it just happened. Just like in real life - it just happens, but gradually over a period of time, of course. I don't believe anyone truely has control over their own emotions when it comes to love.
Love, although grand on many levels, is about the most stupid emotion. It can completely blind people from many truths, just as we all saw in BioHazard 2 when Leon "fell" for Ada.
I believe "The Architect" from the movie "The Matrix" sums up the emotion known as love, very well. This is all personal opinion, of course.
Whenever Ada is around, Leon is a complete wuss and when she's gone he's back to being Superman.I'm a blackstar.

Why on earth do we need another giant creature that looks the same as the one in the last game? Seriously? Can Capcom not be more inventive in their enemy designs anymore? How is it a good thing to recycle enemies? I can deal with Ganado-type enemies being the mainstay for the series, as zombies were in past games, but others that were specific to the village in Resident Evil 4 is just really disappointing to see.Last edited by Dot50Cal; 07-17-2008, 10:03 PM.

The only new thing that they really added to RE 5 was the co-op play and the real time inventory which I have mixed thoughts on both. The fact that RE 4 was an isolated situation, I don't see why they should be using the same enemies. The first three or four had some simlar enemies because they where all experiments of Umbrella. A prefect example of this is the Hunter. We saw the hunter in RE 0 and 1 but not in 2. There different vairations of the Hunter in 3 because Wesker took all the embroys. We then saw the return of the Hunter in CV because Wesker brought them with him to the Island and Antatrica. While there is another El Gigante would need a lot of explaining.

I've already said elsewhere on this website, that I, too, hate the idea of bringing el gigante back, as that seems more of a creature that should be localized to Spain.
As for my statements up above, well, I was trying to look at the RE5 progress thus far in a positive light. I'm hoping that the 40% of programming the developers have left will be used to replace the recycled crap (sounds, animations, pathetic enemy AI, flaming crossbows) they seem to be using in the demo.
I'm disappointed like everyone else. I just want this game to be awesome, but I admit, even my hopes right now are a little soured. I mean, I'm still waiting for the revelations on the blonde that we were promised with the E3 trailer. I could care less about Sheva - I want to know about (who I believe to be) Sherry!!!

This game should be about closing off loose ends, as Takeuchi & Kramer are claiming. Sheva better just be like Billy or Carlos...some secondary character that is just along for the ride.Last edited by Jill's Boob; 07-17-2008, 10:41 PM.
