ive never heard about RE1.5 ..... im going to look for it though, but yea that comment about the fans is all they want is a RE game with zombies and umbrella thats the best short summary ive ever seen and i think its exactly why the original fans are upset with the way RE is going, if RE4 and RE5 had zombies instead of what was there already im srue we wouldnt have this problem, thats all people are so upset about
Well, yes. Alright, allow me to ask people a question. Perhaps they'll be able to explain to me something that has been bugging me a little.
You enjoy a series, for example one that involves elements such as zombies, horror, puzzles and exploration. The plot is a bit contrived but works, and while the gameplay is clunky it is servicible. For it's flaws you love this game.
Then they release a new game. It doesn't have zombies. Or very much horror. Only a minimal number of puzzles. No exploration either, really. And the story has a teniuous link to the others. In other words all the elements that made the game the game you love are gone. The controls are excellent, the game plays like a dream...but you can't help feel that, while an excellent game, it just doesn't feel like part of the series.
After a while a new one is comming out. You're excitided. Sure, the game won't feature zombies but the really important parts, the puzzles, the exploration, the horror are bound to be back, right? They're not going to take the game even futher from it's roots or leave it where it is, right? And then you see the videos. And it looks, just looks, as though it's going to be more guns. More action. No horror. No exploration. No puzzles. Just more, admittedly smoothly controlled, killing.
And to add to your worries it appears as though the staff is simply cloaning bits from the previous game. The enemies are re-skinned...but they fight the same way as the old, even to the stupid attack pattern. Zombies may be brain dead but they head at an enemy and don't stop until they chomp flesh. These guys run up...and stop, to allow themselves to be shot.
You can't help but feel the game is going to be good, but again, good for the wrong reasons for a series built on horror, exploration and puzzles. It is, in fact, the exact opposite of why you loved the series...a shooter where your brain need rarely engage and your trigger finger needs to be nice and fast.
Now, bare in mind these are simply my opinions. I don't hate RE5 already. I think it'll better than RE4, a game I own, from new, on the CG and Wii. But I don't think it'll be a good RE, the same as RE4.
So why, exactly, would you be excited for that? A game in a series that is the exact opposite of the previous games? Please, please explain this to me...because I really want to be excited for RE5. But I can't help but feel it won't be what I want. Yes, it'll be good. But so, apparently, is Grand Theft Auto...and I hate that game. RE4 and, by it's current videos, RE5 will have more in common with GTA than the previous RE games.
I think people are excited about this game because of the name Resident Evil even though most of us know that the only link to RE is Chris. The only real excitment that there is, is the possibly of a returning character and story that explains parts of the series. The producers have promised a lot but don't believe a word they say. I can't really get excited about this game and hope that the end while they still have some dignity left.
I agree with what a lot people have said, RE5 being too much of a clone to RE4.
RE5 seems to much of another RE4. For christ sake, they even have the same sound and animations for enemies. What happened to all the things we were originally promised? Enemies are supposed to be faster and charge at you, however so far, I've only seen this once, which was in the 2nd RE5 trailer released I believe? Also, Takeuchi has said that the game will show fright in both darkness and daylight. I can understand the dark, that one cave scene where Chris is shown walking through with a lantern seems somewhat intimidating, but what about daylight? We haven't really been shown much of this feature. Sure, the Executioner is kinda cool I guess and it seems that he stalks you, but in my opinon, watching a giant guy with just a giant axe stalk you in broad daylight by just walking up to you slowly and try to hit you with it may be thrilling, but not "frightening". Also, as for El Gigante being back, that is just pure laziness. If anything, there should atleast be somewhat of a reskin for him or something, but from what it seems from that screen Dot50Cal took, it seems like almost exactly the same model and skin. I'll be more disappointed if in game, they way you have to kill it is to shoot it enough for the parasite to pop out of its back, and then you must run up and knife the shit out of it. Takeuchi said some enemies from the old games will be making returns. As for old games, which ones does he mean? The past RE games (RE0, RE1, RE2, RE3, RE: CV, etc) or just RE4 entirely? However I must say, from what it appears, the giant alligator from RE2 is back, that is a nice touch, I always loved him in RE2 and found him completely unexpected. The thing I'm hoping not for however, is that the fight with him is not just a reskinned Delago from RE4.
As for story wise, I'm really hoping its not just gonna turn into another RE4 with just maybe a mention or two of progenitor. I want a RE game, not another side story like RE4 was. I want to explore maybe labs with maybe blood on the floor with lights flickering on and off and to just have that feeling of overall creepiness. I mean sure, there were labs in RE4, but for me anyways, they just didn't have that RE "feel" if you know what I mean, I wanna see test tubes with creatures inside. With Wesker being back, I wanna see maybe what he has done with the viruses and parasites he has in his possession. I guess I could see maybe the plagas combined with progenitor in RE5, but from what it looks like, it mostly seems just like RE4. If it is the progenitor combined with plagas, there should be ATLEAST some differances with the enemies, they should act differently than the ones from RE4.
I'm not saying that RE5 will be a bad game, I'm sure like people have said, it'll win GOTY again and I do plan on buying it the day it comes out, but I mean story wise, from the looks of it, doesn't look too great, but I can't really say much as the game hasn't been released yet.
And after finally a essay of text, I'm finally done. lol
Barry Burton. Doing whatever the hell he wants. Ordering Sheva to make him a sandwich. Ninja kicking el gigante in the balls, bitch slapping fireworks guy and flouncy tits, stopping the chainsaw with his BARE HANDS and throwing it back in the face of his enemy. Hell....Barry is so awesome he doesn't need a companion to run around a building to shoot off a lock. He'll kick the damn door down.
Barry Burton = the great equalizer.
That my friends would be a game to get excited about. RE5 right now...its easy to get excited to see the new game coming out even if it is a rehash. I'm eager to see where the story will go and how badly Capcom has screwed with things.
Wesker is involved, and he's been collecting the different viral strains from previous games, so surely he's been cross-breeding to create similar creatures such as the giant alligator or el gigante. I guess. As for the parasite that is controlling things...what do we know so far...it looks as if there is a worm (leech?) that is force-fed into the host body via the mouth. Then I guess the worm grows to a much larger size (as seen when it extends through the mouth to attack, OR when the host is killed and the worm sprouts wings to become an airborne enemy). It also appears that the worms can join together to form human-like sentient beings.
Concerning the game itself, we're all a bit paranoid that it'll turn out bad. That's expected though - no form of entertainment will ever be able to please every consumer out there. Granted, there is some legit criticism to toss upon what we've seen so far:
- recycled animations
- recycled sounds
- recycled enemy AI (the running at full speed, only to stop and walk slowly toward you)
- the bad voice-acting of "fireworks" guy
- the lack of any disclosure we were promised for tube girl
- etc.
The gameplay controls from RE4 are great; it was a much needed evolution that I imagine almost all RE fans are fond of. But the lack of puzzles and zombies are a major letdown for those same fans.
Zombies are a great enemy, and are part of the charm of the early RE games. I miss them, and when I watch the Dawn of the Dead (remake) or the Biohazard Pachislot trailer, I still feel that zombies can be done right (and pose a serious threat) in a video game. But, if you look at the way the series has progressed, zombies were getting a bit stale. RECV...I found the zombies to be more comical than a legit enemy. And the "End of Umbrella" stage in REUC...by that point, I felt that Capcom was tossing them in just for the sake of it. If the idea of creating bioweapons is to legitimately progress (in a sense of realism), then you'd imagine that future infectious agents would provide a means to control the minions (by the person who enabled the infection). By no means am I defending the Las Plagas plot device, but you can see Wesker developing a virus with similar "controlling" properties.
As long as the human host is zombie-like (or a type of monster), then it is okay. Retaining a degree of intelligence is threatening in itself, but the enemy must be better utilized than the RE4 run-at-you-but-then-walk-up-to-you type of combat. And I don't see why the villagers can't use machine guns (now, I am not advocating this turn into a complete shooter game, which is what would happen if the villagers all had guns), but for them all to just have wrenches, machetes, spears, pitchforks, etc, is just kind of dumb. I mean, some of them use crossbows with flaming arrows (fucking stupid...why is this in RE5?! It was stupid in RE4!) so why can't they use the plethora of AK-47's available in wartorn Africa??
Capcom can't let RE5 turn into a full-blown shooter, which is why they have the African ganad...err, villagers use mostly melee weapons. But that could still be threatening if they go back to the basic formula of limiting your ammo. But the solution to the increased threat of more enemies (implemented in RE4) is the availability of MORE ammo. Well, if they want to continue this route, then I say to Capcom: make the numerous enemies fast AND threatening, like Crimson Heads.
As for the puzzle elements, it is nice to use the old bean in a game, but...I will only accept the puzzles if they fit into the realm of reality. I love RE1 to death, but the constant moving of statues, or playing the piano, to open doors, got old right away. Plus the freaking sword key or the helmet key...that all is pretty stupid when you think about it. George Trevor designed the house as a maze, with puzzles, okay, I'll accept the plot device. But when the RPD had similar things in RE2, that really soured the experience for me. Both are great games, don't get me wrong, but the way the developers set that up really irked me.
So I'll side with those of you yearning for more puzzles in RE5 - I like the mental challenge (to also offset the mindless shoot-em-up rest of the game), but please try your best to make them somewhat realistic.
Finally, my last rant (if anyone is still reading at this point) is this - RE5 looks like it will cover a lot of locations. Good. But please don't just stretch the game out for the sake of it. I want a long game like anyone else, but please make all of it vital to the story. And please make the progression somewhat logical.
I enjoyed the gameplay and length of RE4. (The story not so much.) But looking back on my memories, I remember thinking at some points: how the hell did I get here, and what the fuck is this doing here??!! I mean, you start in a village, then you end up in a castle (where a giant stone statue chases you), then you are in some sewers, then you're in a lab, then you're in a lava world (with moving stone dragons that breath fire at you), and finally you end up at an oil platform (or something like that). It was all ridiculous. It really distracted me from the gameplay (as did Leon's matrix-fu and awful characterization).
So I beg of you, Capcom...please, please, PLEASE - make the story and setting progress as realistically as possible.
End of rant. Still, I will buy this game on day 1 and play it multiple times. So, much like the rest of you, all of this whinging is just for the sake of discussion.
I'll be reserving it the moment I can and getting it on the day of its release as well. And whining is good. It allows for some good points to be made, and can give people a good chance to understand how others feel.

Haha. You made Barry sound like Chuck Norris.
It'd be nice to see Barry again, but my guess is that ol' Barry is propped up in a recliner with his AARP card. He'd be 48 in RE5.
I think Barry's great equalizer would be his dialogue...
"You were almost a Jill sandwich."
"I hope this is not Chris's blood."
And shall we never forget:
"It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you."
Barry > Chuck Norris. I haven't seen Norris taking out any zombies...just boarder crossers.
I always loved Barry...he seemed to be the most realistic character in the entire series (great dialogue and all). He was a family man...and even despite having years of experience did what any person would do in his situation. He didn't want to, but he allowed himself to be played just to keep his family safe. And he got away with it too (providing you the player didn't cause him to die). He was just a great guy. If he is chilling in his easy chair, the man earned it.
I think if they had remade Gaiden into a PS1/2 game the series could have been taken in a completely different direction (possibily following the original idea for 4 where Leon was pretty much infected). It would have been awesome to play as Barry in a more 3d rendered environment.
You can't compare how much of the game is a copy of RE4 because we haven't seen very much of the game and the game isn't finished.
Plus what is a repeat might be a repeat with a twist. Like Nemesis. He is just a different looking MR. X but then you find out he can run. Then you see he moves from room to room. Then you see he has a rocket launcher and BOOM you're dead and have wet pants.
i think barry might be a secret agent in my opinion, i think he was doing something of his own while he was in the mansion i mean besides meeting up with wesker, i think barry is a member of some other orginization that rivals umbrella, was sent into stars to follow and monitor what wesker was doing, but didnt you wonder why barry was always where jill needed him to be at the right moment? but idk... i think theres something different about barry, but you never know... hes hasnt really made any other appearance other than RE right?

Meh....I dont think so. Barry was conned into working with Wesker from the start because Wesker was threatening to harm his family. He appears again in 3 depending on what ending you get (let Nicholai escape). As for that, he doesnt appear in any of the other games unless you count Gaiden.

It is true, it would be foolish to assume it will be a complete clone. But those enemy animations have been in place for an awful long time now. Since the game play is the same (or similar) to that of RE4 and the enemies are using the same style of weapons and AI, at least for now, it is a fairly good ground for comparison.
As I said before, my real hopes are the enemy AI will be completely redone and the people will be smart. No more dodgy running up to be shot, please sir, one in the head for me sir! If the enemies hide behind barricades or in doorways, inside windows and dive out to grab Chris and Sheva, or co-ordinate those swarm attacks so one group acts as a decoy while others actually try and get above or behind you...oh, that is actually creepy.
And if they made it so small groups are dangerous and big group fights are rare and unusual then I'll be a very happy man.
If they could add in some exploration, something they have promised, some realstic puzzles (I'll admit, the ones in RE2 did strain the mind somewhat...did Irons come in late each night, cackling, and putting in new and unusual locks?) that are a bit better than, 'You have a ball. Turn it. No, turn it again. No, still not...there ya go! Puzzle complete!' and we shall really have a winner.
That'll be close enough for me to be happy and excited. So far we have no evidence any of this is there, though, and so I ain't happy and excited...and I note no one was able to explain to me why I should be.
As for the story...again, my hope is Wesker will be involved and that'll explain all these irritating little similarities. But did Wesker ever get hold of a Plagas sample? And so far I think our only evidence is the guy who does Wesker's voice is involved, so it could be another Seperate Ways deal. I just really, really hope not. It's also possible that Wesker won't be the main enemy and it'll be re-hash of the RE:CV dynamic: Wesker's there to get sample, Chris desire to stop him.'
