Resident Evil going action is natural evulotion. It had to happen, period, I can't emphasize it enough. The thing I don't like in Resident Evil 5 though is how similar it is to Resident Evil 4, yet they call it 5. Earlier Capcom have created side-stories when they have run out of innovation, they are taking a major risk.
Resident Evil 5 spoilers ahead. If you've seen all released images, trailers and have done some independent thinking you might already know.

Resident Evil 5 will first of all be split into enviromental sectors, like Resident Evil 4. Instead of the village, castle and island however they will instead have the slums, the caves (likely close to the volcanoe) and the industrial zone - which all three will follow the same style as in Resident Evil 4. The slums will learn the player the basics of the game and provide some quite open combat, the caves will provide a bit more enviromental dangers and adventure game moments, the industrial zone will show off heavy action.
In the very beginning of the game there is a village-like scene where Chris and Sheva are trapped inside a house with enemies storming it - instead of a chainsaw maniac there will be a large executioner carrying a giantic hammer which he will use to smash open a wall in the house, which Chris and Sheva use to escape the house afterwards.
The enemies in the game for now use animations and behavior very similar to that of Resident Evil 4, but it can be expected to change and the AI will likely have a fat upgrade.
The Merchant will return, selling various handguns and rifles to the player.
The dogs will once more return, this time in a Silent Hill 3-fashion having split heads.
Plaga-like enemies will return. My guess is this is Weskers doing crossing the Las Plagas and the T-virus - or it might be the Progenitor virus (seeing as it originated from africa and appears similar to the smoke in the 3.5 beta material) at some extent. Anyhow, they look very much alike plagas.
All in all I think they reuse way too much from Resident Evil 4, waaay too much to call it a new game. Some things hint that there will be a cult involved aswell.

Agreed. There a hundred and one ways that all the elements that made Resident Evil what we know and love while using a more action themed game play style. Look at 3.5 videos if you don't believe me. Hell, they can still do it with 5. All they have to do is make the new enemies remotely intelligent and, this is important, not to use mobs of thirty or forty in every single scene.
Let's face it guys and girls, which is scarrier? A mob that charges into range, stops, and gets decapitated by mass shotgun blasts? Or a group of enemies smart enough to hide behind walls, croush under window sills to pop out and grab Chris when he takes a look inside and the new light - dark dynamic means he can't see? Sure, have the mobs, but make them rare and instead focus on making an idivdual smart enough to be a threat. It doesn't take a genius level intelligence to work out that stopping to be shot at is dumb as hell.
I'm relatively sure the RE4 AI will be upgraded, but I suspect it'll be cosmetic rather than affecting gameplay at this point. I'm really hoping most of the game is done now and it's all going to be tweaking AI and such, so they have the time to make these guys something that's scary.

Anyhow, Resident Evil 5 is obviously far from finished. The animations and sounds are still the same, like half Resident Evil 4 is recycled in Resident Evil 5. They can't release it that way. From what I've heard from people playing Resident Evil 5 so far they have all praised Sheva for her great intelligence, so you can probably expect a sizeable upgrade on the enemies side aswell.
Your own idea however is outright stupid. Enemies smart enough to hide and ambushing you from the shadows would mean human intelligence. No way that enemies other than special forces get that kind of AI in a Resident Evil game ever. I hardly think the enemies will stop in 5 either, from what I've seen on the trailers they are quite straight-on (which was planned for 4 aswell, but was removed probably since facing a mob of straight-on enemies would be too hard).
I do miss zombies. Slow, tough and creepy. But those days are over now. The T-virus is no more. I did hear some rumors tough that in Resident Evil 5 you'll be able to play "flashbacks" from what Chris have been doing in the period of time between his appearances (Original - Code Veronica, Code Veronica - 5). We can probably hope of seeing regular zombies there.
I'm just hoping that they will remake more of the old Resident Evils in time, nowadays a zombie can look as good as in Remake without the pre-rendered backgrounds.

So...being able to talk, operate complex machinery such as bikes and trucks suggests these guys are dumb? No. They have a brain. They're will has been overiden by the parasite and so they have to do what they're told, but they certainly have the brain power to think 'If I don't run up to him and instead hide maybe I won't die.' You're working on the assumption that Ganados are stupid, but there isn't any reason they have to be. The only way they've acted dumb is using swarm tactics and the whole run then stop thing. They even use body armour, shield and, yes, ducking behind walls to defend themselves. All I'm advocating is they use that in a stealthy manner.
Not only that but there are plenty of animals, proven to be dumber than Ganados, that can manage ambush and attacks from darkness. And, finally, these aren't Ganados. They're some kinda mix between the progenator or the T-Virus, most likely. Therefore they can explain the increased intelligence, if you disagree that a creature capable of driving a truck can manage to duck behind a wall. So, given that they're smart enough AND it'll make the game actually scary I'm sorta having trouble seeing the stupid bit. I'm simply looking for a way of making the game more than a simple action shooter.
Zombie may be gone but that doesn't mean there replacement has to be thicker than a wooden plank. Ganados are shown to be a hell of a lot smarter than zombies. I reckon it's time they acted like it.
Oh, and before I forget Anderson is the one who made the poor Resident Evil movie, and wrote the Abysmal Resident Evil Apocalpse and the dismal Resident Evil Extinction. Since very few fans liked them at all, and the games seem to be emulating the movies more and more, it doesn't win Capcom any brownie points. But no, he's not as bad as Boll. Nothing is as bad as Boll. Not even herpes.

Well, still, having enemies hiding in the shadows and jumping out to grab you would be a bad idea no matter the reason why. It would be more of a shock moment, something you can't see coming and professionals would take it as an insult having half your health slashed away by something you can't really prepare for.
The enemies don't have a reason to hide either. They are not afraid to die, they don't care if they die, they don't care if anyone around them dies. All they care for is their objective, which seems to be feasting on the flesh of Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar at the moment.
Did Anderson make the first Resident Evil movie? I liked that one, though I've only seen it once a long time ago. It had a Resident Evil feel to it, nice amount of zombies, decent plot and nice special effects. The ending was well done aswell. A shame it wasn't cannon, only.
I didn't like the other ones though, where Alice gets superpowers and goes one-on-one versus Nemesis. Noone goes one-on-one with Nemesis except for Jill and a major arsenal.

Yeah, Anderson was the director and writter for the first one. Which was the least awful of the three. Any zombie movie that sees more deaths via lazer beam has problems though.

I think the people who are claiming they will not buy or play RE5 when it comes out (due to whatever qualms they currently have with the 60% complete demo) are being ridiculous. Stop being so emo! If you didn't care so much about the RE series, y'all wouldn't be here reading and posting on this website.
And the RE movies...yuck. It's best to ignore their existence. The first one was ho-hum, but as Darkmoon suggested, the fact that more people were killed by the laser beam chamber than by actual zombies, just goes to show that P. W. Anderson never fully grasped the RE concept. And there was the bad CG enemy at the end...I take back what I said about it being a "ho-hum" film...looking back at it now, it sucked. (And I saw it on DVD; never had the willpower to spend theater ticket prices for that junk.)
BUT not as bad as RE: Apocalypse. That film is like a train wreck. I finally watched it when it was showing on cable, more out of curiosity at how bad it would be. And it was worse than I imagined. What a horrible, terrible film. There is not one redeeming quality in Apocalypse...well, the chick who played Jill was pretty hot. So maybe 1% of that film did not suck. But the rest is 99% garbage. It's an unintentionally hilarious film that is so bad, it makes "Troll 2" look like an epic horror masterpiece.
RE: Extinction - I'd rather be curb-stomped than to ever watch that.
So, here's a toast to "RE: Degeneration" - may it fill the void left in our hearts (and minds) due to P. W. Anderson. Hopefully Degeneration gets the basics right, and captures the true essence of RE. (And limits the amount of time focusing on emo-lamewad RE4 Leon.)
I think RE5 will be a great game. The developers, I believe, accept a lot more outside influence than they let on. So, the current complaints of fans and game editors (who have all let it be known they are not too thrilled with the "nearly identical" resemblance to RE4) might lead to some more changes in the months leading up to the game's release. If you look back at the summer '07 RE5 trailer - the one that caused a ruckus with the cries of "racism" - almost all of the enemies on screen were black Africans, with a few middle eastern mustachioed men sprinkled in. Then, bam, the new trailers featured a bunch of eminem-looking caucasian enemies. Takeuchi claims that the cries of racism have had no effect on the programming, but I think otherwise.
So my final toast is to RE5, may it receive some fantastic upgrades to the gameplay mechanic, to appease both old and new RE fans alike. (Or maybe there is already much more to it than what was revealed, and all of our concerns are for naught.) Please don't disappoint, Capcom, but regardless, I'm in utter anticipation for 3-13-09!

Well, until then I'll be playing Resident Evil 4. I'm kinda pissed though, was going for a perfect Easy run - everything went perfect, I got a decent amount of headshots, only got hurt twice, had tons of pretty pesetas and then it turns out I missed a treasure which I'm SURE I took - but that must have been a few days before when I also played on Easy (though I restarted because I got damaged alot and all).
So now I'm back to zero.

Isn't RE4 the game with Leon doing acrobatic pirouettes, leaping from second storey windows to safely tuck'n'roll on the ground, back-flipping his way through laser grids, etc? Isn't RE4 the game where Ada does handstand-flips when she hops up onto something?
