  • Wasn't Leon in RE2 voiced by the same guy who voiced Brock on Pokemon?

    *IMDB break*

...hmm, I guess not. I don't know why I always thought that.
When he says "Don't shoot, I'm a human!" in Kendo's Gun Shop, he sounds EXACTLY like Brock.

    • Feel free to defend RE4 Leon, Nicholas. Just remember most folks don't agree with you and respect that.

And this thread should have nothing to do with defending RE4 itself. Feel free to start a thread about how awesome you feel it is and such, but expect plenty of folk to diagree with you. And that you need to respect there opinion there as well.

As does everyone need to respect yours.

      • Oh I'm not going to do that. i don't like to start arguments. My main policy is just defend the things I like when they're attacked. Having argued about this since 2004 and being a regular on IGN's RE baords, I'm fully aware my opinion is not shared by many. I can co-exist with them and their views just fine.

Oh brother. I noticed in your response that the only positive you provided for RE4 Leon was that he has "good-looking hair." (And you bash Chris's hairstyle.) Are you a hairdresser, perhaps?

From what I've seen...people with hair like RE4 Leon's are either (a) metrosexual, waif-thin, teen-aged pansies (in America) and about 70% of the males (in Japan).

          As for your final statement:

Take "RE2" out of the first sentence, and replace it with "RE4." Then, for the following sentences, insert:

A schmuck who has to rescue the President's daughter? Done countless times.

A schmuck who sees his long-lost love again and pines for her? Done countless times.

We could play this game all day. Saddler sums it up best near the end when he even uses the phrase "cliche" in the game itself. Look at the polls up top - more people think Leon is a dickhead than people that like his RE4 character. Personally, I didn't think Leon was that great of a character in RE2, but compared to RE4, RE2 Leon is a bright shining beacon of hope. But hey, look at it this way, I may turn to like RE4 Leon since "Degeneration" Leon looks like even more of a smug prick.

          RE2 Leon > RE4 Leon > Degen Leon

And finally - I recall Carlos saying his accent drove the ladies crazy, but never saw him prove it. Jill didn't fall for it. And we'll most likely never even see Carlos again anyway.

            No I am not.
As for positivies, I liked RE4 Leon's voice-actor and jacket. He has some awesome lines too as they were supposed to be cornball lines. Like I'v esaid before, RE2 Leon = Evil Dead 1 Ash. RE4 Leon = Army of Darkness Ash. Well not as awesome but you get the analogy.

            Stereotypes are fun for everyone!

A highly-trained government agent who has to rescue the President's daughter? Done countless times.
            Fixed.

A highly-trained government agent who sees his long-lost love again and pines for her? Done countless times.
He was very professional about Ada until the mission was over at which point he was free to voice his feelings. I don't call that pining but we may differ.

The opinion of a single internet forum is not particularly relevant to me I'm afraid. Leon in RE4 has a great following of fans while RE2 Leon is completely forgettable. That's all there really is to it.

Look at this vid for instance of the Degeneration trailer when first shown to fans.
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Listen to the reaction (the only vocal reaction we can hear) when Leon is introduced. Leon's popularity is unquestionable and I highly doubt it's from RE2.

And Leon in Degeneration looks awesome. Being the best and telling everyone you are is the best way to be.

            • Stereotypes? Well, seeing as I said "From what I've seen (with my own eyes)," my statement holds true. I've lived in Japan and America, and from what I've seen, those are the types of people who have an emo-fop hairstyle.

And of course RE4 Leon has a larger following. RE4 = recent. RE2 = 1998. Younger gamers make up a large portion of the video game market, and I guarantee more people that have played RE4 (without ever touching RE2) spend massive amounts of time interacting on the internet.

Ding, ding, ding...what do we have for him, Johnny?!

You like RE4 Leon. I hate him. We'll never see eye-to-eyes. Get it? Since you probably have an emo-fop hairstyle like Leon, and therefore only one of your eyes is visible?

I'll never make it as a stand-up comedian...

By the way, I'd take the opinion of this (RE-specific) internet forum any day over the opinion of the numerous RE4 fanboys that have only played RE4.

A majority of the people here have played the RE series, as opposed to the millions of teenage boys who only played RE4. That is where I imagine the "great following of fans" you mention stems from.

You saying that RE2 Leon is "completely forgettable" really damages your cred. But I am at least thankful you played RE2, as your in-depth knowledge of it indicates.

You discounting Leon's past is regrettable though. Whether you like it or not, it is a part of his character.

and it EPIC FAILED EPIC EPIC EPIC FAILED MISERABLY for Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3.

I played 2, 3 and CVX before 4. Nemesis was my first and still my favorite. I enjoyed every RE game I'v eever played and really, things like "Ada wait!" and "Sherry!!!" only cross my mind as flaws when I'm on the net and defending RE4. I can play through RE2 with nothing but enjoyment. Birkin is my favorite antagonist to date and his G-Virus and mutations are all badass.

You discounting Leon's past is regrettable though. Whether you like it or not, it is a part of his character.
What do you mean? I have no problem with his beginnings in RE2. I just don't think he's that great a character and that his "evolution" in RE4 was just fine.

Why do you keep saying (concluding), that if someone likes RE4 or prefer something from RE4 over something from the previous games, he have only played RE4 or RE4 was his first game in the series :|. People do have their own opinions and there are gamrs, that even thought they know the entire series, consider RE4 to be the best.
It's like Homecoming - say that you like it, and lots of so-called true fans will tell you, that you're not a SH fan (or you are not deserved to call yourself that way) o_O.

That hurt man, that really, really hurt
The day I played RE2 the first time, Leon already became my favourite character in the RE series. So saying that that is forgetable does not compute for me.
Also I was totally hyped when I heard that Leon would be in RE4.
And then actually playing him with the new gameplay kicked ass.
Leon is still my favourite character and I didn't think he went all that dumbass or cocky or whatever people think. He just doesn't have his moments in RE4 cause of the odd plot like he had in RE2.
And I read earlier in this thread that the thought of him and Ada falling in love in RE2 is not believable, hey who understands love?
I'm one of those who voted the 'both' options and I'll stand by my point
Hehe totally like the fact that Leon is in the Degenerations movie
And I do hope he returnes in future installments of the RE series...

Look, there are four types of fans that I have come across:

                              - (Type #1) Those that have only played RE4, and think the game & Leon rock. But they think the older, slower gameplay "sucks," even though they have never played anything pre-RE4.

                              - (Type #2) Those that have played the entire series, but find RE4 so different and so full of ridiculous stunts, characters, & story elements that they bash it. Most DO enjoy the new gameplay though.

                              - (Type #3) Those that have played the entire series and love everything.

                              - (Type #4) Those that have played the entire series, but love the new direction of RE4 and have disowned & bash anything pre-RE4.

I have been debating with Nikkolas, and Beasely. Personally, I am Type #2. Nikkolas appears to be Type #3, though most of our disagreement stems from chracter/plot standpoints, instead of the games themselves.

Beasely, on the other hand, is Type #4 (a totally new type of fan that I have never encountered before). Someone that claims to have played the entire series, but now denounces anything pre-RE4 as "sucking, boring, and complete crap."

As for your comment, Mr Zombie - if you'd read closer, you'll see that I have been claiming that someone who has played the entire series is less likely to rip the entire pre-RE4 catalog than someone who has only played RE4. I mean, have you ever come across someone like Beasley who says that they have played every game, but thinks RE4 is the best and that the other games "completely suck?" If someone is a fan of the SERIES, then they will list the strengths & weaknesses of each entry. No matter what, they celebrate the entire catalog.

Most series veterans have praised RE4. Some like everything about it. Some only like the gameplay, but feel the series lost some of the feel of pre-RE4 games. Some outright hate everything about it.

Most fans love RE2 the most. Most other fans think REmake is the finest entry. Opinions differ, yes.

But I stand by my assessment that there is a LARGE number of new fans that have only played RE4, who have then tried one of the older games, and found the gameplay so boring that they immediately claim anything pre-RE4 to suck.

I do NOT think that everyone - whose favorite RE game is RE4 - automatically hates or has never played the other games. But I haven't come across many people (that have played RE0 - RE4) whose outright favorite game is RE4.

Beasley, as I said, is in a world of his own. He says it best, right here:
