It's not TAS "of Capcom", he's just a moderator on their boards, not an actual member of Capcom. And he's right anyway, of course the game is the evolution of Outbreak. It's a Resident Evil game, that relies on online co-op. It's the next step for the series.

As for the single player campaign being linear, how can you comment on it yourself if you're yet to play it?

Great find Skunky. Aside from the various scenarios, there were many "File: 3" NPC's left on the disc. I wish the games would have been received better overall, especially with the bulk of the scenarios for a third title already complete. (It'd also save me $300 to play on the Japanese servers )

The Outbreak series had a special mood to it that I fell in love with. The atmosphere gives off a sense of impending doom, allowing you to meet the everyday citizens slightly before the unavoidable catastrophee. The beautiful OST also helped set the tone from beginning to end. While the game had it's flaws, I'm able to look the other way due to a fun, classic core and decent production values through out.

Do you have sources or quotes to back this up?

Who else would like to see some events from Sheena island in the next outbreak game?
Yeah, that could be cool... or even a scenario in the ship from Dead Aim. It could be (a bit) like the Poseidon Adventure. Fighting your way through the ship and ending with a small group of survivors escaping by paddling away in a lifeboat... cue: Bruce's arrival.
But those scenarios would really only work with different characters for each.
The 2 Outbreak games work well because Raccoon City is huge. It was filled with thousands of people and there are so many stories to be told.
If they were to make an ALL NEW Outbreak, they could do all kinds of scenarios, spanning RE history.

The File 3 I'm (and I think Yama are) referring to would be made from a lot of stuff Capcom have already created. As the Online trailer shows, there are definitely areas that were not used and others have said there were up to 20 scenarios originally created. It certainly sounds like the bulk of a File 3 is already ready.

Sadly, I agree with much of what Biocore said earlier in the thread. Capcom seem only to happy to forget about Outbreak and leave it dead & buried.

Even though RE5 will be online, I think it will be a very different experience to Outbreak. The two can't really be compared. The Outbreak games were more traditional RE, with players able to be in different areas and completing different objectives, while I imagine RE5 will be co-op action, running along with a friend and blasting the crap out of everything (should be fun but VERY different to Outbreak).

There were 20 scenarios originally planned, not created. Most all of those original scenarios were scrunched into the ones you see now. Even the hacked areas are just new angles of the same areas or extended areas, it is nothing to build a third game off of.

Well, we have screenshots of the outside of the hospital (both front and back streets), several shots of a street level, some more shots of a dock level, and tons of the motel. The sewers in EOTR alone seems big enough to be a scenario on it's own if they only added more areas. But yea, there are lots of stuff in the game which indicates that it was at least planned to have more scenarios, like textures for a "Disk 1/2/3/4" text, locked doors which won't open but Alyssa can try to unlock, the File 3 NPCs, the fact that you can use an HDD, etc.
              Seibu teh geimu?

So I guess the traditional BH/RE will be dead if Wesker is killed in BH5. If that happens, then I'm through with Capcom.

I hate how we're unlikely to get a File 3 though. Sucks.

I think that a re-worked Outbreak game would possibly be a hit on the PSP in Japan. Monster Hunter was pretty much going the way of Dino Crisis until it saw a PSP release, and the rest is history. The last game IIRC went double platinum in Japan.

RE4, UC... what's the third? (Confirmed that is). PSN has had PS1 RE games since Nov 06 in Japan and HK btw.

Graphics didn't seem to stop people last gen from praising Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil Rebirth and Resident Evil 4. And quite frankly, those games still hold up very well today too.
Odd choice of words? The games looked great and remain some of the best from last generation. As far as holding up to current gen games, they really don't unless you're looking through some magical filter. I'd agree about Zero, due to its pre-rendered backgrounds, but like all last gen games, they look dated overall.

They do maintain their charm due to an extent. Art direction certainly has a lot to do with it, much like the case with the SH series.

Ah, right. Two ports (literally) and an on rails shooter... add PSN PS1 releases and you've got a sad state of the series this generation. There were 2 brand new games, 3 if you count CVX during the same time frame last generation.

Realistically speaking, the only other possible new RE game this generation aside from RE5 is another Wii title. Hopefully a proper one.

I'd rather see ports than re-published emulation (though, at least the price seems "right" on PSN for these +10 year old titles.)

Actually, the correct is 4, nearly 5 ;)

Including portable platforms, I'd say there is room for at least two more on top of that 2 within the end of the decade. But first, Resident Evil 5 needs to get closer to release, Capcom's got a lot of big balls in the air at the moment.

I'd say the forecast would look something like:

                        Xbox 360/PS3
                        -Resident Evil 5
-Potential DLC or XBLA/PSN* content/title. (Not just meaning an additional challenge area or character skin, I mean full blown story stuff.)

                        Wii
-Resident Evil 5 "related" title. (Either downgraded port or directly tied in story)
-A "Main story" installment title, classic gameplay w/added QTE. Potentially an old title with added fluff.

                        NDS
-Some sort of follow up to Deadly Silence. (Or maybe something joining the new trend of genre shifting, a strategy title.)

                        PSP
-Capcom's harvested a solid Monster Hunter fanbase on the PSP, so I'm sure they're still eying the possibilities of putting other big "mature" franchises on it.

And ofcourse, on top of this, there's probably 10~15 mobile SKUs, but who doesn't see that coming anyway?

*word cannot describe what I would pay for an Outbreak-ish title released as retail but with heavy focus on DLC in terms of scenarios and characters, heck, I wouldn't even mind if the first few "extra sets" were already on disc and just unlocked by unlock keys over time. (Hey, haters of that, I know you're out there! Just shut up.) Reason I say retail is because with the achievement/trophies focus these days, it's easier to add a shitload of them if you have a title that is not restricted by the "arcade" guidelines. (Just make 'em good as a challenge and all is forgiven.)

Don't forget a working communication system. God knows what they were thinking when they made a multiplayer puzzle game and then didn't let you talk with each other about how to solve the puzzles.

I dunno about you, but I found the communication system in Outbreak to be absolutely perfect. (Although, in single player it became pretty hilarious when you'd run around tapping "FOLLOW ME/COME HERE!/HELP!" constantly just to make sure the AI wouldn't run off to carry out their own little stupid survival plan (usually involving carrying some key item and crawling up in a corner to die somewhere far far away from your current location)... If that wasn't your main concern, then it'd be the moments when the good doctor would run around shouting a mix of "DEAR GOD!" and "YOU'RE WORSE THAN MY EX-WIFE!")

But yeah, in this generation... a voice system would be welcome (though, depending on the player count, or difficulty/game mode, it'd be nifty to have an option to make audio only carry a certain distance from your character's current location). I'd love for them to keep the old system around, though, just make it somewhat easier to use and get an overview of (like... a HUD appearance for them, something you often have in flight simulators and stuff for the wingman orders.)

i kno wim going off the topic of outbreak but..
no they're not, you cant keep using the same formula over and over or it will get samey.
Myself i love all the resident evil games although i find outbreak hard so i owuldnt get board of it, but other people will
you have to come up with a fresh story line
