If you polled a large number of RE fans that have played RE0 - RE4, a majority would find that RE4 has the weakest plot. I was just pointing out that even a Capcom staff member ridiculed it.
You misunderstood what I meant then.
From a purely objective, storytelling standpoint, RE4 was no better nor worse than any of the previous games. Each of the previous games in the series had just as many plotholes and contrivances as RE4. It doesn't take a degree in English Literature to realize this. The difference lies in the content of said stories, and that, I believe, is where most fans take issue with RE4.
Anyone who says that the previous games' storylines were better from a narrative perspective is either an idiot or a hopeless fanboy/girl.

I got ya now. I thought maybe you were just trying to strike up an argument (I'd like to avoid that).
No, I completely agree about the plot holes, and game play contrivances (I think the sword, helmet, armor key type of device was played out in RE1, and was disgusted to see it in RE2...where it REALLY didn't fit).
I just feel that RE4 had a different feel to it than previous iterations. Storytelling-wise, it didn't seem like a "horror" game. And all the Matrix-ninja-spy characters really made it worse.
That a Capcom staffer would also ridicule the plot (in this particular article) just gave me a laugh.
Do they say something about Jill? Some rumors stated that she might be appearing during flashbacks... I hope Ada isn't returning this time like I've read in one of the pages... ¬¬

It only mentioned Jill when it spoke of how RE games usually feature a "pair" of characters in the game.
It did, however, speculate that the masked "mystery woman" could be someone from the series' past. (The article writers hope for it to be Ada.)
I still believe that the masked woman is Jill, given her facial features (that you can barely see beneath the mask...her jaw-line, lips, and nose).
I found the earlier games to have stronger plots than the later ones. Comparatively, though, they're not exactly at the higher end of things. RE4 was simply a particular let down thanks to laziness of the thing. I still can't imagine why they decided to hit as many cliche plot notes as possible...
Still, there are good things and bad things in this. The fact that enemies are still only going to be dangerous when vast numbers are piling in on you still makes me sad. If these guys are Plagas mutants they really should be smarter. And I, personally, find an intelligent enemy in fewer numbers a lot scarier than huge hordes of cannon fodder. But hopefully the Ganados won't be the only enemy in the game.
And won't be called Ganados, since that would be odd.
I love the sound of the crippled health thing, where you can be brought down and weakned to a point where your ally has to come and save you. Done right that will be amazing. They must really be confident in Sheva's AI and that makes me think maybe, just maybe, we'll get some enemies that don't make zombies look bright this time.
I'm also slightly nervous by the idea of the movies influencing the games. That's really not a good thought for me.
I'd love to have heard more about puzzles and horror elements. Hammer Boy sounds pretty bad, and I love the fact he's silent and will not give you any warning beyond a shadow. I was never scared of Dr Salvadore because I spotted the sod miles away and unless I got hit by a flying axe it wasn't hard to knock him back with a shotgun blast. But the bulk of the horror still seems to be 'we're all around and there are lots of us' and it just doesn't work that well. At least, not for me. When each individual enemy is potrayed as that weak the impact, for me, is a lot less. Even when there are lots and lots of them.
Still, the abundance of characters and the more obvious inclusion of Wesker bodes well for the story. I'm just hoping that some of the more obvious plot things (Wesker betraying the pretty woman exec, for example, and Mystery Woman being Sherry or someone else we know and need to rescue) are things they'll resist.
Plots always better if it both makes sense and doesn't get called.
I agree. But don't you think it wouldn't make much sense? You know, having Jill like a mysterious woman, it would make sense Ada or Sherry,
But it's not like Jill being a mysterious person... but it can hardly happen...
BTW I hate Sheeva's character, it's seems to me that they planned to put Jill but they realized that it would have been pretty similar to REUC last mission, so they changed her to Sheeva. She looks like a cheap copy of Jill...
Well, apparently the last 10 years of Chris's life are really important to RE5's storyline, so I guess that would put Jill somewhere in this game by default.

Ugh of course you would think that, your obviously pretty biased towards Jill, but honestly I'm totally psyched about Sheva and can't wait to see more of her, I'm glad they are putting a woman of color in the series finally, not including Linda from Outbreak who was ugly as dirt. Let someone else shine don't let your favoritism for one character have you thinking that every character who has no name is your favorite character. i.e people thinking the fireworks guy was Steve....
Chris has either worked alone or with Jill, and if Jill gets to have an ethnic buddy to run around with in HER game than let Chris have the same opportunity.

That's pretty racist.
"A woman of color"? Even bringing that up proves that you think that way
I'm bored of RE4. It's getting repetitive. The same dull enviroments, and nothing new. I hope RE5 is much better.
Wow this article was a surprise...everyone was hyped for the EGM article but this article has some excellent information. For the people that have played games with the controls that are described in the article "Gears of War Control Scheme" do you think it will work?
