Resident Evil 4 isn't much different from RE3 or RE0 in regards to the overall mythos of the series. Both RE3 and RE0 took whole games to show or explain something that could have just as easily been shown in another game via a cutscene or file. Heck, the intro to RE4 pretty much covers the one important aspect of RE3 storyline-wise.

Excella does seem like a manipulative person, especially after hearing her "you'll be needing a partner, right?" spiel to Wesker. Excella sees that Wesker is the alpha male, with plans to become "God" in his new world, so she seeks to align herself with him. Then you read her profile on RE.com, and you can see how she may end up crossing him in the end.

The thing I noticed, in the first TGS trailer, is when she is watching the leech man approach Chris & Sheva, Excella is shaking her head. Is she shaking her head in confusion as to the way her work is being used for evil, or just shaking her head toward Chris & Sheva for being idiots?

As Nemesis556 said...will Excella's morals be her undoing? Or is she straight-up evil?

Leon is gay. Look at his hair. But the story to RE4 is worse. For the reasons you all mentioned. Besides the backstory, it really is just a throwaway plot. Which is a shame, because the gameplay is fun.

In that regard, it is a good building block toward the potential greatness for RE5, where gameplay and story hopefully come together.

As for "Separate Ways" - I need to play that. I only have RE4 for the GC, so I never got to explore the additional content. You all are making it sound worthwhile. Plus, I won't have to play as you know who.

Also this pictures is meant to be something important... I don't think it could be the girl in the tube, though.

Hey. JILL LOVER! As you can notice the red rectangle doesn't show a capsule. You can see the capsules that are on the wall from the hole in the middle of the rettangle.
And the casple that we can see opening is not at the center of the room, but near the wall (look at the floor!).

Anyway... I think that if the capsule contains the lady in the first trailer, she can't be the birdwoman. Birdwoman is shown in the village with the drug addicted guy, likely before sheva and chris arrive at the Tricell factory where all this capsules are kept.

I can't understand why people want Wesker bumped off? He is the protagonist of the whole series, not Chris, not Jill{sorry} and certainly not Leon.
If Wesker is to go then Resident Evil will die with him in my opinion. What makes him such a good character is that he does keep escaping and his plans {bar the RE1 escapade and Ada's betrayal} always do work.
Umbrella Chronicles, tho cheesy and averagely done, Wesker's plan in luring Chris to Russia as a diversion for him to steal the Red Queen's data was genius. He had no need to confront Chris there and so stayed out of his way.
Yes, Resident Evil 2,3 and most likely Degeneration will do perfectly well without him, but that is what keeps him fresh, he isn't the badguy in every game. But his presence is felt.
If he appeared in every single game and always escaped at the end then of course it would become boring and routine but the reason we are so pumped for this game is it is the first time Wesker and Chris come face to face for ten years.
If you kill Wesker you may as well kill Chris. Yes he works for the BSAA but im sure he would happily retire once Wesker is dead.
The death of Wesker is a perfect way to end the series and if that happens in RE5, then i will be happy if it is the last game.

Simply put Wesker as a villain has nowhere left to go. He's incredibly powerful, has huge viral stockpiles, controls a vast evil corporation...what's left for him to do? He could go round and pick on Chris' mother maybe,or sit cackling in his lair.

Or he can get killed and open the way for more storylines other than, 'Wesker up to no good. Go. Defeat.' If nothing else the power vacuum he'll leave will be interesting.

Wasn't there already a power vacuum when Umbrella fell?

                  Can't argue with that.

Not so much. Wesker had various virus samples and the Red Queen. He could pretty much step in and take control of the bits he wanted. Once Umbrella fell it was pretty much here.

I disagree. There are plenty of places Wesker can go, its just difficult to speculate at the moment because we don't exactly know what his plans are in RE5.
In any case Wesker's storyline is only one branch of the tree. As i mentioned before, he isn't and doesn't have to be in every game. There is ample opportunity for fresh and engaging storylines without him, my argument is that if you kill him, you will sever the one link that has held the series together since its conception.
Say he dies in RE5 for example and they replace him with Excella or someone new. It will take them a couple of games to gain any sort of reputation to match Wesker only to be in the same situation. Resident Evil 8 where Chris is trying to track down Excella who is bent on taking over the world etc etc. Its pointless.

That would be assuming the new villain had similar goals and motivations to Wesker. There's no point in killing Wesker and providing Wekserlite.

If someone had a much different set of goals and methods you'd get new and interesting ways to develope the story. Of course, Wesker doesn't have to die for this to happen but it will help. Any other villain will play second string to him. I know I took Wesker's presence more seriously than Saddlers in RE4...but that may be because of Saddlers tentacle rape fetish and his poor planning.

i see ur point but if another villan came along, would his/hers goals not be similar? Granted Wesker has a personal interest in Umbrella but anyone harbouring biological weapons would want some kind of world domination?

I guess im just a little suprised at all this talk of 'wesker's story is just dragging out past RE5 talk' considering bar remake and umbrella chronicles he has't really had a sizable role in any of the games. Even though his role in Code Veronica was very significant, he had only a cameo role in regards to screentime and if anything, his appearance in RE4 was just to appease people who didn't like the fact that RE4 wasn't 'resident evily' enough in terms of story.

In terms of appearance, certainly. In terms of story Wesker has been involved in pretty much every situation since the game began, barring Dead Aim and Survivor. Since he got retconned into everything...

As for other motivations, I can think of a few that are different from Wesker's thirst for power.
1 - Wanting lotsa money. Either through selling the stuff or blackmail.
2 - Wanting to 'improve' humanity.
3 - Wanting to erase humanity.

Exactly, hence why i believe that by killing him off is the wrong choice unless they plan to end the series.
A new villan just wanting money would be pretty boring and a letdown, one fo the reasons Wesker and Spencer are appealing is because they do not care about money unlike ur average bad guy. A vliian wanting to save humanity after all we have been through in the mythology so far would not make any sense and a villan wanting to destroy humanity is probably Wesker anyway.

Resident Evil contains many memorable characters and arguably too many. The timeframe between each game is ridiculously long and so why waste more games building up new villans when we already have the current cast so well established. I say just let them fight it out until the end.

James Marcus, Sergei Vladimir, Morpheus Duvall, Vincent Goldman, Alfred Ashford-all good characters in their own right, but no where near as forboding as Wesker and with him suddenly taken out of the series, it would leave a huge, huge black hole.

Well, at the end of the day I suppose it's a personal opinion. I just can't think of anything else for Wesker to do, even now in this game, beyond develop his power base. I personally like the idea of someone creating a virus to evolve the perfect human, since Wesker himself is essentially Human+, and having more than one unpleasant, monstary side effect...but it's not as though the story's not been done before. It's simply a new angle RE.

I just can't see Wesker taking the series anywhere it hasn't already been, which is why I think he needs to die for the series to move on. Wesker's badass and well established but he is, in the end, a device to take the story somewhere and theres no where left for his story to go. Well, apart from ascending to God-hood.

...and it's not as though he won't rise from his shallow grave again anyway, even if they do kill him.
