  • New Biohazard 5 Interview

I was recently able to exchange a few words with Karen Dyer via email about her appearance in Biohazard 5. She is the voice and motion of Sheeva Alomar. Project:Umbrella will be releasing the interview shortly.

                Better yet...

By the way, i love how these interviews start along the lines of "was lucky enough to get the chance to speak to..." when in all fairness, these guys are jumping at the chance to get their names out there!

What follows is an interview, but you've probably guessed that already. Said interview will probably contain some spoilers, but i would imagine you know that already. Anyway, on you go!
Project:Umbrella member Welsh (Colvin) recently had the opportunity to exchange a few words with Karen Dyer, the voice and motion capture of Sheeva Alomar from Biohazard 5.

The following is a transcript of their Q&A session that occurred via email:

JW: How did you become involved in the project? Is your presence in Japan and other Asian countries as well known as America?

Karen Dyer: I was brought in on a recommendation to the production company last October since they were still looking for someone to fill the role. After a couple screen tests, they had me start with weapons training. I'm not sure of my exposure in the Asian markets, but I would imagine some of my work as gotten over there.

JW: How did you prepare for your role as Sheeva Alomar?

Karen Dyer: A lot of the physical training came first. I had to learn how to use pistols and rifles with my left hand, since Sheva's left-handed, and I'm not. Then I got some stunt and fight training. As I learned more about Sheva's history and background, everything else fell into place.

JW: In real life are you similar to the character Sheeva Alomar? Were you given any creative freedom during the table sessions?

Karen Dyer: I like to take on a challenge like she does and I hate to be underestimated. I would love to think I have her strength as well. During the process, the directors were open to my input and feedback since they felt I had an insight to her character.

JW: I understand you're a friend of Reuben Langdon, who plays Chris Redfield and Ken Lally, who plays Albert Wesker. There is great acclaim over the chemisty between you and Langdon on screen. Did your existing friendship help in this regard?

Karen Dyer: Reuben, Ken, and I became great friends during the production. Both Reuben and Ken come with an extensive background in creating video game characters, so I had a lot to learn from them. The cinematics director, Jim Sonzero, wanted to make sure that the partnership between Chris and Sheva had emotional stakes to it. That they were equals and could really depend on one another. Reuben was very supportive and I think we were able to pull that off.

JW: What is your favorite scene during the game? Did you do anything special to prepare for ir?

Karen Dyer: I have many favorites throughout the game, but anything that involved the most action was probably the most exciting for me. I'm a big action fan, so to learn the stunts and fighting skills for those scenes was major playtime for me!

JW: From beginning to end, how long did the entire process take to complete?

Karen Dyer: I started my training and test shoots in October 2007 and worked over the course of the year doing green screen shoots, motion capture sessions, and then the voice work for both the cinematics and in-game scenes.

JW: I saw a video from the Microsoft Press Conference that showed of a previous female character named Jill Valentine emerging from a capsule. With the advent of this character, will Sheeva still maintain her main role or take on a supporting role?

Karen Dyer: Well, Biohazard 5 is now a co-op game with Chris and Sheva as the two playable characters, so it might be a little difficult to get rid of her. Unless, of course, the player doesn't do too well.

JW: Will you be returning in the subsequent release of Biohazard 6?

Karen Dyer: I haven't heard any news about Biohazard 6, but if they ask me to do it again, I would in a heartbeat!

JW: Any final words for your fans or about Biohazard 5? I am not sure if you are aware, but Biohazard 4 won Game-Of-Year at the MTV awards, which was presented by 50 Cent. Will you be attending the award ceremony this year if Biohazard 5 wins?

Karen Dyer: I'd love to be there! It would be a great way to celebrate the experience I had working on this game. And to the fans... I hope you'll be blown away by the look and feel of the game. Have a great time and let's make Sheva kick some ass!

You're reading an interview with a cast member. Does that not spell out SPOILER to you from the start?

I didn't click any links to get to an interview. The interview was posted on this forum and then quoted again without any spoiler tags.

You could still quite clearly tell it was an interview.

It doesn't matter, does it? A spoiler is a spoiler.
If something could be considered a spoiler at all, confirmed or not, it should be hidden or there should be a warning.
