Okay, sort of a noob alert here. This is my first post, but I’ve been stalking this site and forum for many, many months, and I finally decided to sign up and post something. I apologize for yet another discussion regarding the Mystery Woman, but I just felt like this needed to be addressed and discussed.
First of all, I love Sherry, and she is, in fact, my favorite character, so when the first hints that she would be in RE5 started sprouting, I was incredibly excited, and like many people, I was under the impression she was the Tube Girl. But, because we only saw one, brief moment of Tube Girl a year ago and haven’t seen anything since, I’m starting to believe Tube Girl may have been completely scrapped from the game. Unless, of course, you’re suspicious of the second TGS trailer where we see some sort of capsule opening up and Chris looks quite distressed over what’s inside.
Then the Mystery Woman (Birdwoman, if you prefer) showed up, and many assumed she, too, might have been Sherry. I thought so myself. THEN… that Girl in Red popped up, and I was like, “Okay, that has to be Sherry, too.” I still think it is, because there’s no evidence proving otherwise. So, that at least clears up one thing for me: Sherry is the Girl in Red, no questions. As for the Mystery Woman… eh…
Like some here, I’m starting to assume that, yeah, Mystery Woman is Jill, and Wesker brainwashed her, and blaaah blaaah blaaaaah. My opinion is very, very low of that scenario. In all honesty, I hate it. Because wasn’t it Sherry whose whereabouts we were supposed to be concerned with? How long ago was it revealed that Sherry was in Wesker’s care? (I know there’s some debate over whether or not Capcom changed that scenario, given that a new edition of the Wesker Report DVD had that last segment cut out, but let’s ignore that for the sake of less theorizing.)
But here’s my point: I feel like, in the end, they’re going to rip Sherry off and give her a pathetic storyline that doesn’t evolve the series at all. Because, to me, I always theorized Sherry would go over to “the dark side” after all she’s been through (shitty parents, dealing with Raccoon City, Claire abandoning her, Leon being a moron and interacting with him alone is traumatizing). To me, it seems completely logical that Sherry would switch sides, and it’s interesting because Sherry was such a young character when we first met her. We’re under the assumption in RE2 that, “Awww, she’s just a helpless little kid! Gotta protect her! Zomg!” but then BAM, she ends up on Wesker’s side and works for him, either willingly or not. And, again, that works, because there’s history in the situation, and it isn’t random.
However, giving Jill that storyline is just… cliché. At least, it is in my opinion. I have no issues with Jill—I like her, she’s a good character, and yay—but the idea she ended up “dead” or whatever and somehow ended up brainwashed by Wesker and doing his dirty work is just silly. That’s my problem here. Giving Jill that storyline is so dull and cliché and ridiculous that I feel it adds almost nothing compared to letting Sherry have that storyline.
So, just for a second, let’s assume Jill is the Mystery Woman. (Ugh.) That means Sherry (obviously) is the Girl in Red, and from what we’ve seen of her in trailers, she’s once again helpless, alone and scared. Gee wiz, that doesn’t ring any bells for fans. And, oh, Jill is “dead” and Chris feels guilty about it, because his beloved partner died, and he doesn’t know if he’s ever going to be able to protect another one of his partners, so watch out, Sheva! But, lo & behold, Jill shows up, brainwashed by Wesker, and Chris can’t seem to wrap his head around such a surprising turn of events. <<< Obviously, from what I’ve concluded regarding the scenes in RE5, there will be many themes about partnership and so forth, and to me, this is a logical conclusion based on the knowledge Jill is “dead” and Sheva has showed up to be Chris’ new “partner.” And, okay, I’ll buy that. It adds for nice emotion in the game, and I’d actually really look forward to that. HOWEVER, why does Jill have to be the Mystery Woman? Why can’t they give her something else and let Sherry have the gosh darn storyline about working with Wesker? Geesh.
Like every other Resident Evil fan, my brain hurts thinking about all the possibilities, but I managed to develop some theories:
My concern basically stems from the fact that while I enjoyed Resident Evil 4, I remain bitter there wasn’t a better storyline in it. (Gameplay = amazing, storyline = lame.) Even to this day, I feel like the storyline should’ve been heavily altered in that game, thus putting Sherry in Ashley place and it having nothing to do with the U.S. Government and the president’s missing daughter. But I’ve ranted about that way too much, so I’ll stop here, because I don’t want this to turn into another anti-RE4 topic.
All I want is for Sherry to be given a GOOD storyline. There’s absolutely no reason why Jill—JILL, THE GIRL WHO SURVIVED NEMESIS—should end up dead and brainwashed when it’s Sherry who fits the mold for that scenario.
Siggghhhh. I spent way too much time on this post, and now I’m repeating myself. But I just wanted to get this out, and I hope there can be a good discussion revolving what I said here.

Like every other Resident Evil fan, my brain hurts thinking about all the possibilities, but I managed to develop some theories:
A.) Tube Girl has been scrapped from the game. That means it’s only between Mystery Woman and Girl in Red. Thus, Jill is Mystery Woman and Sherry is Girl in Red, meaning Jill has been brainwashed by Wesker, and Sherry is just running around all helpless because that’s what she does best and obviously ten years doesn’t mature a person. /sarcasm
B.) Sherry is Mystery Woman and Girl in Red. For whatever reason, she ends up “de-cloaked” for a moment in the game, and that’s why we see her running around all frantic-like. Oopz. And, maybe, just maybe, Tube Girl is actually Jill, and that’s why Chris looks so distressed in that one trailer where that capsule opens up. (Reason behind this? Uh, Wesker experimented with her or whatever. Why does Tube Girl look like she has blonde hair? Uh, weird lighting, maybe?)
C.) Jill is Mystery Woman and Tube Girl. <<< This doesn’t make much sense to me, because it seems like the Tube Girl shows up LATER in the game, whereas Mystery Woman seems to be around fairly early. So it wouldn’t make sense that she is free and running around in the beginning of the game and then later put in some tube at the end of the game. Just saying.) Oh, and thus, Sherry remains Girl in Red.
D.) Well, gosh darn, maybe Jill really is dead and gone forever, leaving Sherry to be the Mystery Woman and the Girl in Red. That would make me happy for Sherry, but sad for Jill. But I’m bias, so I’d take this scenario and be very very content with it.
E.) NONE OF THE ABOVE! Mystery Woman is Alice in her first-ever game appearance! And, I kill myself, along with the rest of the RE game fandom, and there’s nothing left of the franchise we once held so dear.
