I guess they basically said, "Let's give them as much action as possible with no thought put into the plot!"

Wasn't there a time when Resident Evil involved quiet, creepy, dark hallways? And being completely alone as you explore those creepy hallways? That's horror.
But I guess Capcom just said, "Well, we suck at horror now anyway, so let's just give them as much action as we could and hope that people don't notice that it's not scary, or tense."

But personally, I like to enjoy Resident Evil, while taking it seriously at the same time. Afterall, isn't it supposed to be a HORROR franchise?
There is horror involved in this film. Haven't you heard the dialogue?

      "Who the hell are you?"

      "Leon S Kennedy."

"I'm gonna scrub this virus from the face of the Earth."

I'm sorry the point of that particular sarcasm flew right over my head. :S

          Well... Leon's hair is frightening.

I'm not entirely sure if it's right to take anything Capcom does seriously. A lot of what they do plot-wise turns everything into a cheese-fest, but I personally like that about them. That's another reason I don't like the films, they take themselves too seriously and they're not bad enough to laugh at. They're simply not good or bad... They're not really much of anything.

I think Degeneration will be visually entertaining at the least, though the poor lip-synching will annoy the crap out of me unless they fix it up. I just hate it when people formulate an opinion on things they haven't seen the full product of. Even professional reviewers sit through entire films and plays before the write about them unless they're actually just that unwatchable. At least they start off by giving the product a chance.

I bet you all get pissed off when somebody judges you on something superficial, like the way you look or dress... How often are they right, I ask?

I'm just excited that one of the soldiers that fights alongside Leon is voiced by the same guy who does Spike Speigel from Cowboy Bebop, one of my favorite shows ever!

Giving the product a chance? No they don't. They sit through it because they get paid for it. And do you listen to everything professional critics say?

Look, if you want to pay me to do a review for Degeneration, I'll gladly watch it with as little bias as possible. But what I've seen so far... I've seen zombies, and I've seen Claire. But that doesn't give me "Resident Evil." When I see something by the title of Resident Evil, I want a little more than a random movie which says, "This is what happened after the games." Because technically speaking, they could create an RE game, or an RE movie that involves no monsters at all. People will still buy into it, because they'd want to see the characters, and what happens to them.

But I've detached myself from that. Since RE4, I've given up on the storyline, so I couldn't care less about what happens to the characters.
I watched the first 10 minutes of that analyzing the visuals and the dialogue, it's bad on both counts. Obviously the visuals aren't going to get better later on in the movie. And I very much doubt the dialogue will either.
The thing is, just by watching the first 10 minutes of it, that IS giving it a chance.
RE5 on the other hand, I'm not even going to watch a video playthrough, review, or written description about it. There's no point, as far as I'm concerned. Now, fair enough, that's not giving it a chance. But with Degeneration, I gave it a chance. I watched the first 10 minutes of it, already I hated it. And Leon wasn't even in those 10 minutes. So when he makes his appearance later on, I'd hate it even more. I know this, so why should I subject myself, (and waste a good 1.5 hours of my life) watching something I know I'm going to hate?

Well, if Extinction sucks then it sucks. I honestly believe that it'll be better than the normal movies. Hell, I simply can't see how it can be any worse. Honestly, I'm not exactly assuming Degeneration is better than the movies, I simply can't see how it can possible be worse.

The movies are really not that bad. I mean we're talking about action movies here, and like I've said before. I honestly enjoyed Extinction better than Transformers.

I can't just sit there and not think. There are too many plot holes in the second and third, and the storylines themselves are, at best, fanfiction level. Yeah, they look pretty enough, I suppose. And some of the action scenes are alright, although there are plenty better out there. But between the poor story, the huge plotholes and, well, Alice being so completely and, well, stupidly important to everything, including all the other characters surviving, breathing and talking, I just cannot enjoy the movies. The first one I can watch, just about, but Apocolypse especially is afwul. Just...totally awful.

If you don't like the story of RE4 I seriously can't see how you can touch those damned movies.

Well, the movies have the three basics: T-Virus, Umbrella and Zombies, which are the three essentials that make Resident Evil for me.

Frankly, I liked the cast. Oded Fehr is always a pleasure. I like Mike Epps, especially in Apocalypse, if nothing else, he's worth watching that movie for.
Iain Glenn is an awesome actor, and he made Extinction for me.

The soundtracks on all three movies were very enjoyable.

And come on... So Apocalypse and Extinction aren't perfect... That doesn't change the fact that the first movie was genuinely good. It had a unique style, and an interesting adaptation of the Resident Evil concept.
People complain about Anderson, saying he's a crappy director... But frankly, the one movie he directed was the best of the three. If he had directed Apocalypse and Extinction himself, I honestly think he would've done them more justice.

I mean, I look at his other work. And I'm a big fan of the first Mortal Kombat movie. And I loved Event Horizon, and Death Race.

I do take it seriously, that part just made me laugh because I was thinking "I bet some protesters are gonna dress as zombies.".

Then why still play the games? If you don't care what happens to the characters or the story, how is it still enjoyable for you? That just gives you more material to complain about where as if you stopped playing it, you would save yourself the gut-ache. I mean, there are plenty of games out there with zero story and plenty of action.

I like some of the actors and the soundtracks from the films, but music and actors does not a great film make. I mean, actors such as Edward Norton and Johnny Depp are superb actors and they have been in some absolutely SHIT films. Their performances are always solid and entertaining, but they don't write the damned things.

The film franchise just covers up a poor narrative with good action, but it takes more than that to convince the bulk of the audience. What annoys me is that they have the potential to be very good and you can see that in some of the scenes, but due to the fact that the people who make them are too inept with too bigger egos, that seems to prevent them from being good instead of just ok.

Who said I play the games? I sold off RE4, and denounced the future of the game storyline altogether.

I still love the classic games, but as far as I'm concerned, anything that happened after Code Veronica is up to my own imagination.

And look. I'm not denying that the live action movies have their flaws. But the very same thing you just said can easily be applied to the games and Degeneration as well. "The game franchise just covers up a poor narrative with good action." I think that statement is true for RE4, UC and Degeneration as well.

Leon's hair is pure win. Hating on it is blasphemy.
                              Same for the jacket.
