  • Resident Evil...PSP?

HAH! Sorry to those who thought this was confirmation or an announcement or something...but I was just thinking. I know Capcom and Nintendo are bedfellows, so we're more likely to see a RE game on the DS(like Deadly Silence), but wouldn't a RE game on the PSP be cool?

God knows the PSP needs good games, and why not put one of the Playstation brand's most successful franchises on the Playstation Portable? It worked for Metal Gear Solid, it worked for Final Fantasy and it worked for God of War, and Kingdom Hearts gets its own PSP game sooner or later.

It's logical, but what are the odds it'll ever actually happen?

Don't forget Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid. Portable Ops became a greatest hit.

Well, they released Director's Cut on the PS network in Japan. The question is, why the hell not in North America?

If you may not know, someone contacted Capcom about a RE PSP petition.
They replied back saying if it hit so many sigs (I dont know...100,000 or something, I cant remember) they'd consider doing one for the fans.

The target was hit, and actually met like triple, the petition was sent off, and Capcom never replied, how, shocking. [/sarcasm]
So I ask Capcom WHY THE HELL ARE THEY PORTING USELESS PORTS FOR WII WHEN THEY COULD BE DOING SOMETHING MORE ORIGINAL BY MAKING A PSP SPIN-OFF?!
      Rant over.

Actually, I remember that petition. Capcom said 10,000. And yeah, no word.
Well, look at it this way, ports require a minimal amount of work. And since RE4 for the Wii has sold well, they figured, hey, it's an easy way to make a buck. Not that they're just discovering this. RE2 and 3 have been ported time and again for Dreamcast, N64, PC Gamecube... Heck, they re-released a DVD PC version of RE3 with slightly improved cinematics, compatible with Windows XP.

But even then, you know, I'd settle for a port, for PSP. Heck, Code Veronica could probably easily fit onto a UMD, and the graphics are probably sufficient enough for PSP too. So they wouldn't even have to downgrade the 3D models or Textures.

Not so the fact that its ports, its just useless ports.
Okay RE0/REmake to PS3 or Xbox 360 would be awesome, acceptable, and understood, however, to the Wii, is not very interesting considered they were on NGC and can be played backwards compatibility.

          On topic though:
If they released a PSP RE, it best be a good port, or infact, I would like a remake of REGaiden, but in a different game engine.
That ould be awesome, anyone agree?

If they remade Gaiden with Remake's gameplay mechanics, static backgrounds, etc., it would be absolutely awesome.

Didn't I point out somewhere else that it's more of Capcom doing the fans/customers a favor by re-releasing them as Wii titles, as tracking down a GC copy means you'll have to hunt the second hand marked + possibly track down a GC controller while you're at it too.

+The picture in the Wii versions are much cleaner and sharper than the GC versions, so those weirdo perves that gets their balls stuck in a drawer over some composite 480i action should be pleased too.

Also, in general, I'm sure that Capcom would "consider it even more" (in regards of PSP titles) if you provided them a team and the resources required for them too.

Those games have been in every pre-owned shop I've been to.
That includes GameStation, GAME, Cash Generator & Convertors etc etc.
And its not just one, but many.

Okay about clearer picture and better resolution, fine, I agree with that, but apart from that, spending out on a NGC game with controller and memory card will cost the same as a new Wii game, so either way, its the same...

I was just stating my mind on the matter, it's been over a year (hasnt it?) since the petition hit the internet.
Meh, its all I can say, meh.

Yeah, but that's like saying that they were doing GameCube owners favors by releasing RE2, 3 and Code Veronica for the GameCube.

But regardless of any of that. They took the time to make Deadly Silence and release it for the DS, so why not PSP? Especially after Mikami's gone, Capcom doesn't have to be butt buddies with Nintendo anymore.

You might want to look at the right marked while you're at it too.
Also, for the fun of it, you might want to explore the world a bit. You'll quickly see that what you can find in one country is close to impossible to get (or at least for a reasonable price) in another.

On Yahoo Auctions Japan; the GC version of BioHazard gets listed for 2500~4000 yen (depending on condition).
The Japanese release of BioHazard Wii Edition is set to cost about 4000 yen. (Which is a low price, but not entirely budget.)

As long as there are no international versions announced for BH + BHØ, there is no reason to consider other regions in terms of availability and such.
And when/if they do announce a world-wide release, you need to keep their price and package in mind (what if they do both, together, budget price?)

The things is though... To put out a classic RE game on the PlayStation Network, for PSP, it's not even a port. It's a conversion. A conversion which is done through a simple program. I've done it. And played Director's Cut on my PSP... This was when I had a modded PSP, which I broke. But the point is, to convert a PS1 game to PSP format is not difficult at all on Sony/Capcom's behalf. And they've done it in Japan, so why not here?

A Playstation store port is possible, I'd DFEINITELY buy RE1 just so I could play it on my PSP...that would be awesome.

I was thinking more along the lines of a brand new, made-for PSP game. Maybe starring Barry? Or one of the other 'main' characters besides Chris, Jill, Leon, etc. Or maybe not. Maybe another spin-off. Not a fan of spin-offs, but I think it could be cool.

Like I said, the port already exist in Japan. It costs $0 in development costs and about 10 minutes time, to port a PS1 game to PSP. So I don't see what Capcom's afraid of.

Of course any original title, or a spinoff, I'd naturally want about zombies, T-Virus, etc. The aspect of RE that I actually enjoy.

Well, as far as PS1 games on PSN:
The PlayStation Show is a website dedicated to all things PlayStation. Listen to our podcast The PlayStation Show every week.

I'd love a game starring Barry -- if only to get him back involved. Or maybe a game that takes place in the late 90's/early 2000's and shows us just what the hell Barry has been up to all this time. Best part: you START with his .357!

Yeah, I've used conversion programs for PSP before with PS1 games.
BUT, Capcom ARE getting their own section, only time will tell.
