so the other versions all sold less that a million.
RE2 GC sold out to it's maximum print run. That alone is around 1 million. N64 sold a good hundred thousand too but there (to my knowledge) wasn't any Platinum or equivalent selection on the N64.

to my knowledge it only sold a tiny 21 thousand in the US and RE3 sold 33 thousand in the US, i would provide you with a link, but i lost it since my topic on gamefaqs got deleted.

      but that's only the US.

That alone adds up against RE1.

        • adding 21 thousand to RE2's sales would make it about 4.98 million.

          • And if you added 21 thousand for every other RE2 port it would dwarf RE1. That's my point. If the PS1 version of RE2 alone sold nearly 5 million, all the ports combined add up. That includes the PC port, Dual Shock, Greatest Hits, Platinum, GC, DC and N64.

            • yeah but if you add up the rest of the RE1 ports as well, i mean RE1 had more than 3 ports, so i still think if you added up every version RE1 would be on top still.

              • RE1 was only ever ported to the PC. And it's other re-releases are already listed. If anything it would still only be around 5 million. RE2 would be well into the 6 million mark.

                  • Is there anyone else on this board who actually likes Resident Evil 4?

True, completely forgot. Still, it didn't exactly sell amazingly well.

That's because almost no one owned a Sega Saturn, though.

Moving on...how did this thread turn into a debate on the selling power of individual RE titles?

Sales figures don't justify which title is best or worst. I'd base popularity more on the consensus of the opinionated fanbase. Ultimately though, we all have our individualistic likes/dislikes.

                            • Oh yes. The hatred for Leon is strong. Considering this, I liked Leon in RE4. *GASP*

To me, it actually fit Resident Evil to a T. Both Resident Evil and Leon are incredibly cheesy yet try to take themselves seriously. That's their charm if you ask me. Don't go thinking I adore everything about Leon though, I'm actually pretty angry that they just changed his character like that, but hey, Capcom has a kack for that (Devil May Cry anyone?).

                              • I liked Resident Evil 4... Not so much as a Resident Evil title as just a kickass game... I just think they were trying too hard when they updated Leon's character. For girls, somehow I think it's worse because he's got that kind of cocky personality that I find is too much. Chris can be, but to a more subtle degree that I like.

That's just my personal opinion. I know lots of people think differently, but that's the way he seems to me and nothing is going to change that. I just don't like Leon or his dialogue.
