  • I'm sorry. We'll try leaving realism over here for now, shall we? It's not important, after all.

I don't give a crap if Blone Bimbo # 4 has a slutty outfit. I do have an issue when a supposedly well trained and intelligent woman is apparently gonna rationlize going out wearing something that, well, when walking around the back streets of a city late at night isn't exactly something you'd see on your average lady by saying, 'Well it was hot.'

I don't mind fan service. I don't get it but, hey, I don't really care. I do mind stupid. And that outfit? Stupid. Can anyone defend the damn thing beyond it's just fan service, or it was a little hot? No? Then it's a stupid, and out of character, choice made purely on the terms of, 'Hey, it looks sexy. Who cares about the character?'

Please don't take the piss out of me, Skunky. I don't especially like being insulted because I think something done purely to make a supposedly smart woman sexy is dumb, instead of them doing something that is in character, smart and, you know, sexy as well. Albiet not so much fun as having Jill's tits out at every oppurtunity.

Darkmoon, I find this offensive. That is the same as saying I can't possibly be smart, because of the way that I dress. I realize your intentions aren't bad; but, please try and see it from another perspective.

You are a smart person who has other forms besides fashion to express yourself. I am a smart, classically-trained musician who uses fashion as a form of expression, and sometimes that means dressing risque on a rather cold night. It's not inappropriate or out of character. It's simply a different type of lifestyle. Many different types DO exist, and I so happen to empathize with Jill how she is. One character can't appeal to every type of person. -BUT-, some people can appreciate EVERY character for what they are without telling them what they should wear and who they should be; I'm one of those people.

      • That's true, and I appologize if I did offend anyone. I was somewhat riled up by those comments and the problem that Skunky was missing the point of my posts. And, indeed, seemed to go out of his way to offend me. I'm not some great moral compass. But I don't care about nudity and such. I watched Zombie Strippers the other day and didn't burst a single blood vessel. In the context of the movie, the whole titty thing was fine. Not, you know, erotic on decomposing chicks. But fine.

Jill's outfit is a different matter. It doesn't make sense, in my opinion. I mean, let's look at Jill.
        - Ex-Delta Force.
        - S.T.A.R.S Member.
        - Has survived one outbreak already.
        - Known to be tough and intelligent.

Now, let's look at her outfit compared to, for example, jeans, a t-shirt and a jacket.
        - A good ammount of skin exposed, perfect for a bite. While clothes won't stop a zombie bite they will help you last longer, especially tougher material like denim or leather.
        - Boob tubes are tight around the chest, and are not exactly the kinda thing designed for physical exertion.
        - Mini skirts are tight around the thighs.

And a thank you to my wife for that info on women's clothing.

Simply put, how many people here would really, truly rather have Jill in her current outfit? Would it have seriously put you off the game if she'd been wearing a more normal outfit? One that a woman with Jill's training would surely find more sensible?

Therefore, for my money it's pointless fan serivce. And worse, fan serivce that is completely out of character. THAT is my issue. If you could make it remotely sensible I don't care if the next mini game involves Ada running around a city nude.

So, I appologize if I offended anyone. This is strictly my opinion and I should never infer that having a different one is any less valid. Unless you like Steve, and then you loose all rights to having an opinion. But you folks will allow me that opinion without painting me as some bible thumping looney who thinks no one can ever show flesh, ever.

        • Darkmoon, I definitely understand your statement. If I was about to step onto streets that were full of zombies, I would not wear cropped pants and an V-neck that opened all the way to my belly button.

Maybe Jill thinks she's just THAT badass that she can live dangerously to be sexy?? Maybe not. If, so, they should have added that into the story somehow. Like "If I'm gonna be massacred, I'm gonna look sexy while it happens." Or, if it was stated, somewhere, that she hates her work uniform and wears completely different attire after work.

What I imagine is that they were trying to remove her from her tomboy stereotype in RE1. I remember at the end of the game (where it shows your completion time) it shows her with her hair down. I think it properly expresses her as feminine.... and classy. However, she was on duty in RE1, and, thus, required to be in uniform.

In RE3, maybe the outfit expresses what she wears when she's not on the job? Or maybe it further expresses the chaotic state of Raccoon City. Maybe that was the only outfit she could get to in her home before zombies overran her house? Or, maybe I'm just putting too much thought into it, haha!

With some effort, we can probably locate the Character designer of RE3 and receive a more definitive answer for why she was designed the way she was for the game. That would put this discussion at rest so we can move on to RE5.

Though... *IN SPECULATION* If she is indeed Plague Doctor Woman in RE5, you can see WAY more scandalous attire underneath the cloak in the Trailer 9 (Play God). She would need much more of an explanation. That is, unless Excella now dresses her, or Wesker thinks it would bother Chris more. Pictures shown below! Sorry for the ULTRA POOR quality. Those who wish not to be SPOILED, beware! PICTURES OF BIRDWOMAN OUTFIT BENEATH CLOAK BELOW (crappy ones).

            • Hm.. what the hell has been going on while i have been away? lol.

About wearing skimpy outfits, what the hell?! If they ever took that away in video games i would be pissed, sorry but i do like my games to have a bit of eye candy.

The phrase is: If you got it, flaunt it.. Why should they hide how attractive they are? I don't really think it takes anything away from the game, although it adds something called sex appeal, i don't think it is sexist either.

Besides, that is her trademark boobtube and mini skirt, I think if i was in resident evil i'd wanna wear some kinda plate mail armor and go through the streets with a sword and chop as many zombie heads as possible.

It all comes down to personal taste, but if i didn't have any armor or sword i would just wear light clothes and try to be fast and agile to escape.

As for her new suit, i think we need to wait and see.. but all the flips and fast moves we have seen her do you really couldn't do any of those while wearing heavy clothes, extremely light amount of clothing would be very well suited.

                • Sorry Darkmoon, I didn't mean to offend you (I like you, man!). I was just poking fun at the whole situation, concerning how videogame characters dress.
I play games for fun and entertainment and to escape reality. I'm really not concerned about things like that. A certain amount of realism is good but when it comes to what the girls are wearing, I'm willing to make exceptions . I like when female videogame characters wear more outrageous outfits (Jill's was really quite tame) but that's just personal taste.

But to offer a realistic reason why Jill was wearing that outfit (I agree it's not the ideal thing to be wearing when fighting zombies), we should remember that RE3 is set slightly before RE2. So, Jill was probably there just as the outbreak was first appearing. She could have been caught by surprise. Going out for drinks and the disco when "OMG it's a zombie outbreak!".

                  @Cellardoorsolar,
I still don't think that it's bare leg above Birdwoman's boot. I think she's wearing some sort of bodysuit. It's quite clear in the High-Def trailer.

Firstly...I really was offended by the earlier comment you made. As a girl gamer, I hate it when a female character is overly sexualized for no reason. It really pisses me off when someone makes a well thought out comment about it and others are completely inconsiderate towards their opinions. If you don't like it, you don't have to say anything.

As for your new explaintion...again...pretty weak. An outbreak like that couldn't have happened over night. Roads were already blocked, not many survivors were found, and Jill of all people should have been able to realize the situation before it happened. She spent most of her time, like Chris and Barry, trying to find data on Umbrella. Her diary shows she is upset that Chris keeps delving into it and doesn't include her. To say she was going out on the eve of an outbreak to go clubbing when she knew the danger that was around her is completely invalid. As a cop, she would have been hearing the reports of people getting attacked by zombies.

Of course that is one of the bigger plot holes about the entire Raccoon City outbreak. The first victims that should have been infected were the ones that the STARS were sent to investigate in the first place: the murdered hikers. However, those bodies were never mentioned again. The only explaination I can think of for that would be Umbrella got their hands on them first. Again though...

                    • Wait, are you people still going on about her attire in RE3? Allow me to reiterate my thoughts from 3 pages ago:

It was purely fan-service, nothing else.
Anyone who tries to rationalize her attire is either a fanboy, or an idiot. Plain and simple.

It's the same reason why Ada was wearing that goddamn ridiculous dress in RE4. Is that the type of outfit you'd wear when on a mission trying to retrieve a virus sample in a dirty and remote Spanish village over-run by 'savages'? C'mon now, people. Use your heads.

                      • Resident Evil characters may be good at getting their mission done and surviving against overwhelming odds but their dressing for the occasion ability leaves something to be desired. First you have Jill which has been explained in depth for 4-5 pages now and then according to advertisements her better half Chris is no better. I really enjoyed how he went to her grave to deliver flowers wearing his BSAA uniform. Someone get the man some casual clothes.

Eh, I know the picture you're talking about, and many people believe it's photoshopped...or, if at least not photoshopped, poorly put together by Capcom's people. I highly doubt that if we even see a grave scene involving Chris at all, he'll be wearing the tactical gear that he wears throughout (most of) RE5.

You can't bash all of the characters for their style...you've always got this guy:

                            Yes.. This is really stupid.

Nobody is being proactive at all.. What the fuck are we gonna do? Posted a petition, get 10 signatures, and hope Capcom will change the clothes characters wear in 10 year old games?? This is bullshit. It's dead and buried. Get over it. It's not gonna change.

Not to mention, I'm perfectly happy with everything the characters have worn.

Now, I'm gonna strip off ALL my clothes, find an infected area, and hone only two sais, two silver lugars, and a grapling gun.

Maybe you could make a petition and send it to Capcom, showing your outrage and demanding that they dress their female videogame characters more appropriately.

Since when did wearing a boob tube and mini skirt mean that a girl's a hooker?!

I liked Jill's outfit in RE3 and no, I wasn't playing the game with a 'stiffy'. I just thought it was cool.

Some of you people take this shit way too seriously!
LOL. that made me laugh Skunky. and yes i do agree, just cause a girl wears some revealing clothes, doesn't automatically mean she's a hooker.

i do like her STARS Outfit better, but i still love her RE3 Outfit and have no problem with it at all, apart from it's a little unconventional to wear during a zombie apocalypse, but it doesn't bother me much as well.
what does bother me is, how did Nemesis learn to fix broken windows? did he recieve special training by Umbrella to fix windows after smashing through them trying to scare women to death? is Umbrella worried about paying for the repair costs?

an RE3 Remake is in need!
