Although to be fair... There really deserves to be a topic designated to veterans releasing all their frustrations with Crapcom's latest work.

I've given up on RE1 PC/PSX. I take it for regular spins on my DS though, because of the cutscene/door skips and easy controls. I can't stand the cutscenes or the doors any more though.

I still love them every bit. The doors I mean.

They get kinda... dull and repetitive after a while...

Meh, I don't mind them. You can skip them in RE2 and RE3 on the PC version.

I think veterans should be able to speak their minds wherever, even if it's in a RE5 topic, since it is on subject. I really enjoyed RE4, and I'm quite excited for RE5. I think that the gameplay of RE5 and RE4 is absolutely brilliant. But does that mean I hate all the old games? (I like to refer to the old games as 'Core Resident Evil' because that is what they are). Nope. Personally I just enjoy playing them (old and new) and enjoying the storylines. It's just a matter of taste really. Some people enjoy the old mechanic, others the new, and some just don't care.

PS: To address what you said earlier Bio: I don't think Survival Horror is dead, just unappreciated these days, especially with American audiences and the competing franchises (ie Halo, Gears of War, MGS etc..) It seems to me that now-a-days people want a lot of gun-totting action, with cheap thrills, and scantly clad heriones. But then again, that's just my opinion.

Everything is becoming more action oriented. Even Silent Hill Origins had a buttload of weapons.
The one thing I can say about Silent Hill Homecoming, even if it wasn't that scary for a horror title, it at least kept you consistently low on ammo and healing, which was awesome, because that's survival.
That's why I think it's dead, all you see these days is action horror. And any and all REAL survival horror games there are, take a major backseat. Sure they exist, but people aren't paying attention. For shame.

^ which is quite unfortunate, because the last survival horror game I enjoyed was Rule of Rose.

Yes it was, but I played it in late 2007. I would always go to Gamestop and ask if they had it, and they never did, until one day. I guess someone traded it in or something.

Unless you stockpiled and just ran past most of the enemies in the game like I did
                        :3
except the Order members. They were INCREDIBLY easy. The only enemy I ever had trouble with were those freaking scissors leg things!!

But even then, they didn't allow you to have more than... What? 3 clipfulls of ammo at a time? And if you're stickpiling it, then you're not exactly expending it, which means you're getting by with melee weapons anyway. That's survival.

You could skip them in RE1 PC too.

Funny how in Gun Survivor PC, the higher you had the resolution set to, the slower the door would go.

Oh, of course it is. I leanred after the first boss fight that saving the powerful weapons for important things gave you a higher chance of survival. Which brings us back to the topic at hand. I do agree with a lot of people that the emphasis on survival in RE4, and eventually RE5, is very low. What with a clip load of bullets to be found in every barrel and flower pot.

In Rule of Rose, when you get the revolver, even then you had to search for ONE bullet, just to reload the thing!

Haven't played the RE1 for PC.
The doors that I had absolutely no patience for were the ones in Code Veronica, where they play the heart beat, then slowly slowly approach the door. Then zoom in on the handle. Open it. Zoom out. Then slowly slowly open it the rest of the way.
Like, I GET IT! THERE"S SOMETHING SCARY ON THE OTHER SIDE! GET ON WITH IT!!!
