      I nearly popped a gasket.
Like, the reason the doors were created in the first place (aside from a creative loading screen) was to make that creepy notion that something scary might be behind the door. But at the same time, it means something scary might NOT be behind the door. The scary part is not knowing.

If you're gonna emphasize that something scary might be behind THIS door and not the others, not only does it take unnecessarily long, but it prepares us for something scary. Thanks for ruining the surprise.

It would be interesting to remove the doors and see how long loading REALLY takes.

I'm pretty sure it would be different for every room.

But on the Gamecube it would take no time at all. I mean, in RE0, if you switch characters and they're in different rooms, then you can see that it takes virtually no time for the switch.

I think the door opening sequence is a brilliant device and my appreciation for it is only GROWING as I get older. Obviously the effect was diminished a good deal for CVX and Outbreak.

              How 'bout RE4's doors?

Some doors opened seamlessly with a press of a button. Others (X OPEN) were zoomed into, and required a loading screen.

I think the door loading screens is more for nostalgia and sentimental purposes than anything else. I don't see why a console couldn't cope with loading one room whereas now, with games like Fable 2, there is a loading screen for an entire landscape.

In REmake and RE0 yeah... But again, I see that as another thing that was started off as a creative way to cope with technical limitations, and ended up being a feature on its own. No matter how many games tried to emulate Resident Evil's gameplay style with pre-rendered backgrounds, or tank controls, none of them have ever done the door thing, and that's something that will always stay trademark RE.

but the creators and directors of resident evil want to go inthe direction they want, what they imagined. They created the game, not you and they can do what they like with it. Its obviously gone in the right direction since its doing a lot better now and pulling in lots of fans. and as it was said before, they probebly had all these ideas to begin with, but couldnt do it due to technical limitations.
i seriously doubt you'd be saying all this is the resident evil series started like the newer incarnations.
The new consoles have the power to do more things now, so they are using that power to do what they've wanted for resident evil. It was always intended to go this way. you cant deny RE3 wasnt action horror.
Personaly i welcome the newer games. They're more exciting and give it a different element of horror that the originals didnt have.
WWWOOOOWWW i felt so touched!!! i felt like my heart was lifting... someone with my veiws

It was not, as RE4 describes itself, 'Survival Action.' Which basically just means action with alittle horror left over.

Hell, even the team in charge of five realized that RE4 lacked horror, and in interviews have said they're adding more horror elements. Sadly, since the Ganados seem to be the main enemies and they still have the same AI so far the validity of that statement is...in question.
well you still have to realize, you havnt seen the whole game yet, they could be adding so much more enemys, maybe the ganados AI is to throw you off course then to bive a bit hit in the face when its got all these new enemys plus ganados

and dont give me more bull crap about its gunna be exactly like RE4 cause, ONE GAME RUINED THE SERIES!?!?!

bull crap, if RE5 does the same thing that rE4 did then you have a reason to complain and distrust RE and Capcom

untill then im tired of hearing it

its not gunna hurt you to endure it, you saw the way RE4 presented it self and denounced the whole serise afterwards? what kind of fans are you!???!?!?

i respect everyone opinion but im sick and tired of hearing the same crap over and over again

and g-virus and light, and all the other viruses from the originals, ya know even from the begining the focuss wasint on just the zombies, there were lickers, birkin, tyrants, alexia, and a bunch of other things in the games created by different viruses, the fact of the matter is that just because RE4 didnt have a good plot (witch i think so tooo but still play it today)

i love the origininals as much as anyother true RE fan, but the thing is im optimistic, i look ahead and try to visualize what something now has to do with the future.

ever think about that maybe in a backstory that hasnt been told yet of RE1-RE3 that there could have been something linked to the creation of the other viruses, like the t-vironica or g-virus, more than wat was explained, it could possible have some kinda link to what is being portrayed in the now RE.

thats why i still play RE i want to find out what happens in the future to see if the bullshit was worth it

RE1 and 3 didn't have Lickers. RE2 didn't have hunters... Yes, they are all a part of what Resident Evil is, but one thing that stayed consistent with the entire series were zombies. Umbrella. And T-Virus. There was G-Virus... Along with T-Virus. There was T-Veronica virus... Along with T-Virus. T-Virus was like the foundation for the setting, with whatever other virus or plot device filling in the story for that particular game.

The thing is, talking about the backstory of the viruses could only make it worse. It's an overall estimate of where the series is heading. From what we've learned, in RE5, they will be Ganados, or something close to Ganados, which leads me to believe they want to link the viruses to Las Plagas, like that's where they came from in the first place, and god forbit they should do that, it would be worse than RE4.
Based on Umbrella Chronicles, we're lead to believe that Wesker will eventually transform into a monster.
All these things, and these new characters... The ones from RE4, plus Sergei, Excella and all the other ones... They're overly flamboyant and dramatic. Suitable for Devil May Cry, maybe, but not for Resident Evil. It's like, characters talk one way in RE1, 2, 3... Then the whole world suddenly changes and every single person on earth becomes more dramatic and talks in a completely different way and gains super powers that allow them to do backflips and dive out windows. And it throws the whole universe off.

And frankly, I don't want to know where the Progenitor virus came from. I didn't want to know where the T-Virus came from, but they already spoiled that for me with with RE0. Resident Evil was never about the characters. It never had one central character that the whole story revolved around. It was about Umbrella, this entity that so many different characters had a grudge against. It had some recurring characters, but now, it's all about Wesker. And it's about Chris, and Leon, and everyone gathering to fight Wesker. So now it's all about how these characters interact, what kind of drama will there be when they see each other... Who will die... To me, the characters are important, but the series itself, has always been about the fight against Umbrella. Now that Umbrella's gone, there's nothing for me in Resident Evil. The series should have ended with Umbrella's demise.

well first off they arnt centering around leon, or chriss, they may be trying to center around wesker because hes the new face for umbrella, and no i dont think Wesker is gunna die... yet, and if he does someone in his place will erect umbrella from the ashes.

that was pointless what i just said im half asleep and cant think straight, but um >_________> ok lets see...

oh, leon isnt being centered on hes been only in two games and mention is one, chriss is more centered on cause hes one of the more lead characters, but hes not centered on. (how you figure?)

but i must agree with you wesker is being centered on but theres liably a good reason, only two games have come out, not much has been able to be explained ok, like ive said before give it time something could become clear >.>

Yeah, but it's not the same Umbrella anymore. Umbrella used to be about conspiracy. The awesome thing about it was that it was pretending to be good, but secretly doing bad things. It was the idea that the good guys like Chris and Claire, were trying to make the truth about Umbrella public, but Umbrella being powerful enough to discredit them.

Now that Umbrella's been shut down and discredited. It doesn't matter what Wesker decides to call his new organization. Its not gonna be the same. ESPECIALLY if he calls it Umbrella. Who's honestly gonna think that this new Umbrella is good?
That's like, if someone today was trying to start up a NEW political party, calling it the Nazi party, and saying, "No, this is a good party. Don't worry, it's not like the other one."
So it's pretty obvious that Wesker's Umbrella isn't going to play the good card. Rather it would be more like a terrorist organization in itself.

And when I say it's centered around the characters, I simply mean that the monsters, and everything like that, it's all just obstacles now. It's like, I hear people say, "I want to play RE5 because I want to know what's gonna happen with the characters." And by the looks of the cinematic footage in RE5, what you're getting, is essentially, a drama. Like I said, it's about oh, who's this mysterious bird lady? Is Jill really dead? Who's gonna win, Wesker or Chris? What's the deal between Wesker and Spencer? It's all about the characters now.

And yes, I think if they kept making games about the fight against Umbrella, one T-Virus outbreak after another, it would've gotten a little stale, sure. But like I said, when a series gets stale, you end the canon, not transform it into something different entirely.
To be honest, I think Resident Evil 0 was a bit redundant. Instead of 0, they should've just made a conclusion to the Umbrella saga. Kinda like a survival horror version of the last scenario of Umbrella Chronicles... Only, you know... Good.

The doors that I had absolutely no patience for were the ones in Code Veronica, where they play the heart beat, then slowly slowly approach the door. Then zoom in on the handle. Open it. Zoom out. Then slowly slowly open it the rest of the way.
oh man that was just utter retarded, the series should have ditched the doors as soon as it left the PSone era, there are a few instances in Code Veronica where you can see the area change with a small Now Loading on the screen, those instances are still much faster compared to a normal door opening animation.

they should have stuck with that.

I had no problem with the doors in REmake and RE0. It's a classic. Like I said, trademark RE. Code Veronica was the only problem, and only because they milked the doors. As I've stated above.
