I don't need to back my opinion up except to say that there is nothing remarkable about Chris Redfield. He is probably the hugest cog with the least emotions to me.

Why can't you just name a "good" RE character? It's not hard. I'm not asking you to perform an appendectomy.

Well, to each their own. I'll just stick with my original assumption of who you think is an "awesome" RE character...

Well, It's JILL! I find her the strongest character. RE3 showcased this, as she seems to mentor Carlos in a subtle way, with her experience with T-virus monsters. RE1 seems to give her more personal trouble than Chris's scenario, i.e. Barry's betrayal.

I can see how people would appreciate Chris as a comfortable and challenging playable character, but I don't think any of his story has any significance besides the obvious need to save someone/himself.

Fair enough. Thank God you didn't say Leon was the prototypical RE character.

I can see why people think of Chris as a dullard...but lets reserve judgment until the guy gets a full game to himself, like Jill had in RE3 & Leon had in RE4. Without an entire game for character development, series' vets like Chris, Barry, Rebecca, and Claire have not been fully explored.

Leon is a better character than Chr-.
Aw screw it, even I don't want another RE4 argument.

How is Chris emotionless? Because he doesnt have a dumb sense of humor like Leon? Besides, unlike Leon we havent really seen a whole lot of Chris, and Takeuchi said RE5 will reveal what kind of person he is.

Since it's likely the end on the original plot as we know it, any further games in the series will have to start a new story arc so yes, I think Wesker will lose and Chris will prevail and be the hero as always. However, I think it would be nice if both Chris and Wesker both die,( Chris could have a cool self sacrifice end ), and thus will bring closure to the story and characters and an ending to a wonderful era of Resident Evil before it turns into something totally different. Of course, that will never happen because people are to f*cking greedy.

as Chris dies bravely and the self-destruc sequence finishes destroying his and Wesker's remains, one man emerges to be the main hero....

*to Jill* "Hey dollface, you seen Rabecca? This is our series now."

We've never had a chance to really get to know most of the characters in Resident Evil, if you think about it. The games have never been story-heavy. When have we ever learned about these characters' pasts before just taking control of them and being thrust into a world filled with monsters? If you think about it, Billy Coen has as much character development as any of the characters in Resident Evil. Maybe in RE4, when we saw Leon reunite with Ada, and Krauser...two people from his past. I expect more of this same stuff in RE5...hopefully better though.

All the characters are pretty faceless, emotionless. You're given an objective, and you complete it. There's not much character development in Resident Evil. We never really learn about just who these people are.

Who is Chris, really? He was a drifter. He was in the Air Force...and?
Who is Jill, really? She picks locks. Her father was a criminal...and?

                    • Hey I already made the chart of Hero Character Depth.
Billy and Steve are at the top. Chris is somewhere at the lower-middle right now in RE Character Depth terms which is cardboard cutout character depth for most other series.

Jill's father was only mentioned in the books, not the games. We dont know if her father was a criminal or not.

Okay, so, you're even furthering my point that we don't know shit about these 'main' characters.

same here, out of all the main characters Chris just seems the least interesting to me overall.

and Jill's my favorite as well, she's such a great character.

                            • I think RE 5 will divulge more of Chris's character and what he has been doing the past couple of years. The voice actor sounds good and hopefully the script is well written giving the characters some emotion and believability.
