It may boil down to whether you like to be impressed by overreacting and overacting, drama and cheese, or would you like to see parallels drawn to real life. If you kill dozens (I dont think its canonical, but still, 900 kills) of people who feel pain, you dont crack jokes. It is, afterall, srs bsnz.

The times when John McClane kind of characters were cracking jokes and killing people off hand and off hip with a machine gun that kicks enough to scew up your aim, are pretty much over. People appreciate gritty realism a lot more these days. Even Die Hard 4 was likeable with McClanes oneliners, because we expect him to throw those.

Give me back the real Leon, Itachi!
I guess we actually were given the real Leon back. I never liked the character that much, but apart from the horrid face he had in Degeneration, he left an impression of a professional with inside knowledge, modesty and balls. Thats cool in subtlety. And from what I see, most people appreciate that.

I don't care what anyone says. At least when Leon made one-liners and comments in RE4, he sounded like a dick because he wanted to. "No thanks BRO!" had a clear heaping help of sarcasm.
It was cheesy, unoriginal, out of place and inappropriate. Youre supposed to like it when youre 12, not when youre 18. Or, if its comedy.

"The song of the infected..." when hearing the maons of zombies.
"I'm gonna scrub this virus from the face of the Earth..."
I would say that its because the movie is Japanese at heart. I dont think it had a major, big-as5 budget either, judging by the price of the Blue Ray disk (19? Thats awesome.)

Speaking of that whole scene with Leona nd the two SRT people, anyone else wonder why Leon didn't act sooner when the zombie attacked Greg (Craig?) throught he window? I counted maybe ten seconds he had to shoot the monster. I guess it was supposed to be tense and suspenseful but all I was wondering was "where's all that super reaction speed from RE4?" Luckily it returns later when he is knocked onto that platform by G--Curtis and has to run away.
I have to rewatch it because it doesnt spring up. Would it be explainable by Leon not wanting to hit the guy?

So Leon is as superhuman as ever only now he's cmompletely unlikeable. Unless you like bricks.
I hated that speedrun-parkour part, and I KNEW youd bring that one up, haha.

    • I wasn't bothered so much by Leon's lack of personality as I was the utter lack of action Claire had. Her taking on a zombie or two with the Umbrella would have been awesome. Seeing her do SOMETHING other than stand around would have been nice. Leon has way too much screen time.

I also think its amazing that Claire gets hurt....but Leon is back handed by Curtis across that hudge platform and slams into a wall, then not three seconds later he's up and running again like nothing ever happened. That entire ending sequence with Leon was way too over the top.

      • EDIT: That was Claire against Birkin? Leon A Claire B? NOOOOOOO!
There is no specific order of events in RE2. It's a mixture of all four scenarios.

And RE2 Leon > Degen Leon > RE4 Leon. And that doesn't take much to say considering his character is mediocre at best. But he was more human in RE2. More like a cunt in RE4, and more like a somewhat likeable plank in Degeneration.

I read in a fangoria magazaine that the director stated that if the film is successful that they will make a sequel, do you think it will be about leon, chris, or someone else? Personally I'm kind of done with Leon.
Yeah, liked that quite a bit ;)

Who knows, I'd imagine Leon, because he seems to go on a mission at the end of it. Theres really endless possibilities.

          • I definitely agree that they could have done the finale differently. But I guess action is what they were aiming for, Hollywood-esque impression of fast pace, tention and whatnot.

All you need now is a CG movie with more B.O.Ws such as Hunters, Lickers and Tyrants.

There's tension and action for you.

                Boobies.

But hell. Id settle for the UBCS Raccoon mission. How they either die or get picked off one by one. Something similar to the "Outpost". Add lots and lots of realistic combat from the UBCS champs part and it would be kick-ass.

                • Hell even the zombies weren't in the movie too long. I would have been happier with some more of them. I watched it with my brother and the moment he was over, he looked at me and said "That was it?" and was pissed because there were only a few people shown being killed by the zombies. He was also no impressed with G-Curtis either.

Mmmhmm. I was very disappointed that Leon overshadowed Claire. That, to me, was not fair, and it made for some incredibly boring scenes. Most of the movie was an Angela-fest, and I was not impressed with her character at all. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the movie, because I definitely did, but I think I would've preferred more attention on Claire than on these one-time characters. I also would've enjoyed some references to the other game characters, although I suppose Chris' mention was at least something.

Are there any opinions here about the voice-acting? I know I say this a lot, but wow... Alyson Court is just so endlessly talented. Leon may have overshadowed Claire in the movie, but I think Alyson Court outshined all of the other actors in performance. And, not only because her voice is so distinct as being "the" Claire, but because she really was the most believable out of all the actors.

                    • Court's voice acting was amazing...whoever did Angela's voice sucked. I hated the way she spoke. Crispin Freeman I thought did a wonderful job as well. I didn't really have any issues with anything outside of Leon. I'm not even one of the hardcore Leon haters either...he usually doesn't bother me but in the movie I couldn't stand him.

                      • I'm not familiar with Crispin Freeman's work, but I was impressed by his acting, too. Fredrick, as a character, is basically the average cliché for the mysterious British guy, but I think Freeman's voice allowed Fredrick's personality to reach a healthy medium, so I enjoyed that.

The voice-acting, in general, was actually quite impressive for a movie holding the Resident Evil title, for which I'm grateful. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other about Paul Mercier, Leon's voice, but I will admit it was nice having some familiarity, being that he was Leon's voice in RE4. Hunnigan's voice actress, too, was a nice familiarity.

On the subject of Leon.... Well, he is definitely not amongst one of my favorite characters (and, truthfully, never has been), and I have a large opinion on the matter, but I'm going to stay quiet about it. I'd hate for a discussion on Degeneration to morph into another debate about Leon. :3

                        • I reckon it's RE2 > RE4 > Degeneration.

Leon always just STOOD there in the emotional scenes, cause he's too cool to be seen around upset. And he looked like an asshole anyway. Not cool. Go back to your emo world, Leon.

                            • Did it bug anyone else where they decided to place Leon's whole "Our lives were changed by Umbrella"/*insert Raccoon City clips*? Okay, yes, some audiences may need to be told this, but how they implemented it kinda made it seem like Leon was treating Claire like an idiot... >_>

I don't even liked Claire and I was disappointed.

Seriously, why even bring up the whole "She's a Raccoon City Survivor/has experience" line if they're just going to give her less than 30 seconds where she's actually fighting...? -__-

And if Leon had a spare gun, why didn't he give it to Claire to begin with? Especially with her aim, it wouldn't help to clear the room faster...
