Code Veronica was a sub-par book. But the other RE books are actually much better. I enjoyed them quite a bit.

The Nemesis book is really good.... at least I liked it, and she worked Nicholai way better than the game itself.....
But all of the other books are really not that good. Just good passtime read, and not even all of them (the originals suck big time)

Thanks for all of the nice comments on the video, btw. I'm sure Andrew (the voice of Wesker) would be happy too. ^^

I don't think Perry is a really terrible author, I just personally find the books unegaging and I also find that her writing style is somewhat convoluted at times. I'm sure if she had a better editor they would seem better, but her basic knowledge of writing needs adding to. She needs to get her hands on John Marsden's 'Everything I know about writing.'

"'Copter." Her use of that word drove me nuts. It made me think of the old Bell 47 medevacs they used in M*A*S*H*, but even Corporal “Radar” O’Reilly didn’t refer to them as “‘copters.”

When you say things are "out of character", you have to remember the books aren't canon and set in a different universe to the games, as are the movies. It's not really a reason to put them down.

I'm sorry but anything Perry wrote cannot be worse than this:

The elevator had just descended and opened. The third and fourth guards were patrolling from left to right directly in front of it, on a path some six feet away from the last crate. There was no way to sneak up behind the men, so Snake waited until they turned and began walking away from him. He bolted across the floor to the crate closest to the elevator door. There he waited a few seconds for the guards to turn again and walk slowly toward him. Snake could hear them muttering something about a storm. He surprised them by stepping out from behind the crate and standing directly in front of them.

"Merry Christmas," Snake said as he delivered two powerhouse punches, left and then right, into the guard's faces. The soldiers plopped to the floor. "I forgot to tell you -- Christmas is early this year."

~ from The Official Metal Gear Solid novelization by Raymond Benson.

Wow, that was so not in Snake's style :/.

Tell me about it. There's many other bad, out-of-character lines in this book. I'm reading this thing with a frown on my face.

I think we should at least give Perry some credit. Im sure its not all that easy converting a game into a novel, especially RE games since for the most part the characters dont have much dialogue throughout the game, and the characters pretty much go back and forth from room to room trying to find keys and other objects, pretty straight forward. I mean, a novel based on RE1 and RE2 seems like a hard thing to do, since you have two main characters to write about. She did a great job with RE1 since in the game only one character could be selected, but she used both of them in the story without having one locked up in a underground cell. Her books are enjoyable IMO.

I've read plenty of fan fictions that are novelizations of the games and many of them are much better than Perry's. The only reason why she get's published is probably because her dad is an author and already has connections. Not because she's good.

Does anybody have any examples including Jill and Chris or Leon and Claire?

                        Thats just awful!

People are treating the franchises as cashcows. Did they even do their research? Chuck Norris sprung to my mind, haha.

                        Christmas... My god, haha.

Perry isn't showing a dark side to Wesker. He IS the dark side. I don't deny that Wesker would say something like that to piss off Chris, my point is that he would be more subtle about it. The humour in my video is kind of taken from that fact.

What I actually think he would say would probably be "So is your sister attractive, Chris? Perhaps I should... Introduce myself to her."
You're right there, that's way more grating. Dunno about you guys but if Wesker ever said that to me, I'd kick his ass.

                          And I don't even have a sister.

Code: Veronica was probably my least favorite of the Perry books. She does a good job translating the other games into books while making her own at the same time. See, Code: Veronica was the longest game but she made it the shortest book. That's why it's so convoluted. The other ones are much more fleshed out.

But I swear, if she ever makes an RE4 book... ever... People will die. Like, Kratos-style dead. D:

To be honest, I'm curious how would she translate RE4 into a novel.

I don't know why she hasn't written RE4 yet. She did RE Zero not too long after the game came out. 2004 when I thin the game came late 2002.

My favorite part of the SD Perry books was how she added to the files that you would pick up in the game, things that would have been annoying in the game, but if your already reading a long book, it's nice to have some more information.
