    i liked RE3.5 a lot more than i liked RE4.

and to anyone who said it wasn't RE enough, well RE4 wasn't exactly anymore RE than 3.5 was, and id rather ghosts over ganados anyday.

Not even ghosts. Hallucinations of ghosts. Half the game was in Leon's virus riddled mind as I understand it.

The example for character building I developed, and one I doubt Capcom would ever do (as it shows a character being less than SUPER awesome) is Leon firing away at a monster...only to find it was Random Villager A come to try and help or even, gasp, a character. It would devestate Leon and lead to some real character development. And when you finally find the guy who infects you Leon would have a real reason to kill his ass until it's dead.

Now that would be a pretty sweet way to do it. That's like SH3, though.

Maybe Hookman was someone trying to help Leon, and knock him out so that he couldn't do any more damage!

I think Hookman was pure hallucination...but I could be wrong.

As for the Silent Hill bit, I suspect it was the inspiriation for this little idea, but I would want to delve into the affect this happening would have so Leon would have to find out what he'd done one way or another.

Well the question here is... was there any other gameplay apart from the 5 minutes in the resident evil 3.5 video?
Little is known about Re 4 betas specially the forth one, which never saw the light

I somehow doubt there was much made. It was maybe a couple of months work.

I think "Hookman" was actually Leon's barber, pursuing the infected, hallucinating Leon. Leon was running for dear life, as he didn't want his bangs trimmed.

Well the fact that they had any footage at all, means that they had created a game engine, which was very different from RE4, well, it look very different, I know nothing past simple programing. It looked unpolished so it probably wasn't a CG rendered movie.

It's the same engine that RE4 uses, I think, it just plays differently thanks to the enemy being tough and scary and the narrow, confined spaces. I could be wrong, of course, but it looks the same from what I've seen.

I absolutely think that 3.5 would have been interesting. And as mentioned, a virus giving hallucination symptoms is perfectly normal, thus something that could be fitting for an RE game.

What is not fitting - and now I might be harsh - is having over the top ammo consumption all the time running around without any issues spraying bullets at your enemy

I doubt the developers scrapped an entire game engine. They certainly used the same engine for RE4, what you see in those footages is the gameplay differing from RE4. For example having special camera angles at some point (this certainly reminds of the old RE atmosphere).

I may be presumptious and maybe a little overhyped to say this, but I honestly think RE5 is going to be what RE4 should have been. The control system is almost the same apart from the optional new GOW style, and I loved that control system. We have our old inventory slots back, and it's in real time (however I did like the inventory case in the last game. Was one of the new features I actually liked). So it's my favourite new gameplay, and Capcom have actually focussed on giving it a decent story this time, bringing the new characters back, and a proper "company" this time rather than a dumb cult with a dumb motive. They've tried to flesh out this new company as well, with Degeneration. I do think RE5 will be miles ahead of RE4, and will appeal to all of the fans, old and new.

Absolutely agree with you here, Alexia.

I was a bit disappointed when they changed RE4 to something new to the series. I like RE4 the way it looks these days, but the atmosphere I prefer is RE3.5. First time I saw the RE3.5. I thought I could play it soon.
