A lot of people are criticizing the new setting, and I can kind of see why, but I think the change to the harsh African sun is really interesting. I think it paints a more... oppressive kind of tone, and I really think RE5 nails isolation extremely well, even with the partner aspect. In past RE games you're stranded and surrounded by a bunch of monsters that don't really think for themselves. In RE5, it's sort of like Chris and Sheva have stumbled into a wrong part of town and the locals are really not taking kind to their intrusion. It's like you have this active, thinking, sentient force out to you kill and you're on its territory. I can understand that this isn't the sort of direction everyone will like, but I really like it personally. It feels more like a real setting than RE4. The village in RE4 didn't really strike me a very genuine setting. Kijuju in RE5 however I find much more convincing. I also think the fact that the BSAA is just getting mutilated over the course of the game adds to it as well. You start out with all of these allies and a lot of back up, and it all dies off and dwindles over the course of the game until, I have no doubt, only Chris and Sheva are left. I think Capcom took a risky decision with moving the game to Africa and placing a lot of it in daytime, but I think it's paid off as I still find it very atmospheric and the environment very oppressive and uncomfortable.

As for the demo itself; spectacular. I love the gameplay and how refined and polished it feels. The controls (type A), aside from the odd switch of the action and sprint buttons, are great. The game looks stunning. I've played a lot of co-op with it and even though I definitely prefer it to the single player mode, I still find single player very fun and exciting. I also really dig the real time inventory as well.

Just played on PS3 for the first time, and co-op for the first time. Thoughts:

      - I liked control type B on 360, but on PS3 I like control type A a lot more. Probably because I was just playing through RE4 a week ago. I don't like how Square and X were swapped, though, I got used to it.
      - Co-op is truly awesome...made 5989830x more awesome when playing with someone who uses a mic. I played with my friend for the first time and we coordinated everything we did over the mic.
For example, on Shanty Town, I went to the gate by myself to cue the chainsaw-man cutscene while my friend stayed back with the rifle. When he came through the gate, I ran backwards and behind my friend as he pumped the sackhead with bullets. I shot the Majini that attempted to attack him, protecting him. And then, when the chainsaw man got close, we moved, shot the barrells, he kept shooting and I started roundhousing him...he was dead pretty friggin' quick. It's all about using the mic.
      - Played as Sheva for the first time, and the last time. I absolutely HATE the over-the-LEFT-shoulder view...I can't stand it. I've always played games over the right shoulder, and I don't plan on switching right now. While I did enjoy staring at Sheva's tight, round ass, it didn't make the over-the-left-shoulder view acceptable. I'll stick with Chris, thank you.

Obvious nitpick, with all the control settings, none let you swap X and Square. That's really the only turn off for me. Thank God they let you aim with R1, though.

Overall, I LOVED IT. I played as both Chris and Sheva, and there's not a big difference in the screens. The aiming is the same and I didn't have a problem using both.

Sheva's AI is really cool. She can take care of herself pretty well, helps you out fine and is more a help than a burden.

The game was a lot of fun. Challenging, thrilling "FFFFFUUUUUUU" worthy. The graphics were awesome but I'm not a picky person when it comes to that, so. XD

As if I wasn't pumped enough for this game. I AM GOING TO PLAY THIS DEMO LIKE A MADWOMAN.

I enjoy the demo...especially when I have other people to play it with. It does seem to set back the horror aspect, but it is enjoyable. When I first started playing the demo (Jap 360 released a while ago) I found myself getting hardly any ammo. However, the more and more I play, the more I save ammo. I finished Shanty once with about 50 hand gun bullets and 15 rifle shots. I think that was a solo playthrough however.
I hope we will get one more demo featuring the oil refinery levels, but I doubt it.

Hmm...has this happened to anyone else?

On PS3, when I go to the XMB to invite someone, the game screen in the background dims as usual, but once I'm done sending the invite, the XMB fades away but the game itself has the same brightness as when I'm accessing the XMB...it's almost like a glitch, and I can't get rid of it until I quit out of the demo.

Also, if I invite someone to play, we play through it and finish(and my screen stays dimly lit the whole time), if I try to invite someone again to play another round, I cannot. I click "invite this player" and it brings me back to the game screen...I have to quit out of the demo and access it again in order to invite someone.

            Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I had a few issues a while ago...I'd go to accept the invite and it would give me a PSN error message. I took a few minutes for it to actually let me join the game. I've also had it freeze with the dim screen. Other than that I haven't had any issues.

                  Bueller?

Yeah, Yama over at Biohaze wrote about this:

Apparently it happens on PS3 if you have more than 65 friends. It will no doubt be fixed for the full game.

I've only got about 6 friends on my list... so yeah, no worries for me...

Didn't have fun with the demo. It seems like the game won't be to my liking. I'll give it a few more runs before declaring it trash. But I don't think my opinion will change.

This is something I was expecting anyway.

Well, I'm new so I may as well give some quick thoughts...

                        ...

                        IT ROCKS!

Honestly, I'm playing the demo more than any full game I own on the PS3 right now. I'm one of the few "old school" RE fans that loves the changes to gameplay that came with RE4. I appreciated the atmosphere and creep factor of the games through RE0, but that's not why I played the games. I was instead enthralled by the storyline and characters and those are the reasons I still love the series even though it's abondoned its roots.

The demo was exactly what I was expecting and hoping for since I completed RE4 on the GCN 4 years ago. The graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay is fun, and I know the story will finally move the series forward unlike the "Side Quests of Leon S. Kennedy" storyline that was in RE4.

Demo gets a 10/10 and I can't see myself rating the final game any less than the same score.

Question? What are the default weapons you get in the PS3 demo? I ask this for good reason. XD

In one scenario, Chris starts with a pistol and a shotgun, and Sheva starts with a pistol and a rifle. In the other scenario, Chris starts with the pistol and the rifle, and Sheva starts with the pistol and a submachine gun(MP5, I think). Also, in the first scenario, you can pick up a different submachine gun...I think it's a Skorpion.

So ... nothing that electrocutes? I was playing co-op with someone and they shot me with something like that. I was like "THIS IS NOT A FAMILIAR WEAPON ... ALSO IT HIT ME."

No, you were standing next to one of the electrical boxes and your partner shot at it.

                                And you got electrocuted.

Lol, I was playing one session on Shanty Town where we beat the chainsaw man and had nothing to do, and I was standing at the gate and heard "C'mon! C'mon! C'mon! C'mon!" so I ran back and Sheva was standing at the electrical box, waiting for me to shoot at it...so I shot it like 4 times and she died.
