A lot of people are criticizing the new setting, and I can kind of see why, but I think the change to the harsh African sun is really interesting. I think it paints a more... oppressive kind of tone, and I really think RE5 nails isolation extremely well, even with the partner aspect. In past RE games you're stranded and surrounded by a bunch of monsters that don't really think for themselves. In RE5, it's sort of like Chris and Sheva have stumbled into a wrong part of town and the locals are really not taking kind to their intrusion. It's like you have this active, thinking, sentient force out to you kill and you're on its territory. I can understand that this isn't the sort of direction everyone will like, but I really like it personally. It feels more like a real setting than RE4. The village in RE4 didn't really strike me a very genuine setting. Kijuju in RE5 however I find much more convincing. I also think the fact that the BSAA is just getting mutilated over the course of the game adds to it as well. You start out with all of these allies and a lot of back up, and it all dies off and dwindles over the course of the game until, I have no doubt, only Chris and Sheva are left. I think Capcom took a risky decision with moving the game to Africa and placing a lot of it in daytime, but I think it's paid off as I still find it very atmospheric and the environment very oppressive and uncomfortable.
As for the demo itself; spectacular. I love the gameplay and how refined and polished it feels. The controls (type A), aside from the odd switch of the action and sprint buttons, are great. The game looks stunning. I've played a lot of co-op with it and even though I definitely prefer it to the single player mode, I still find single player very fun and exciting. I also really dig the real time inventory as well.
