  • The RE5 engine?

Does anyone know for sure if the current build (or that of the demos) of RE5 uses the Unreal Engine 3.0? Or is it still the MT Framework? I don't have any reliable sources, and I've seen a lot of rumors about it. Plus, I don't have a PS3/Xbox to check the files for myself.

        Capcom.

It's their own, standard engine for all of their next-gen games. RE5 uses a somewhat modified version.

          Yeah that's true.

Devil May Cry 4 used the same MT Framework engine.

It's a real beast of an engine. I can't wait to see what the next game using the engine looks like.

I know that just about every new Capcom game uses the MT Framework engine, since it's in house built and stuff. But Capcom had licensed the Unreal Engine 3 for unannounced reasons not that long ago. That's when some rumors began that RE5 would shift gears to that. I just wanted to know if anyone had solid information or proof on the matter.

Well, for one, in RE5 you won't see textures loading just before your eyes like you do in most games running on UE3 (GoW, UT3, Mass Effect).

Also, it was mentioned in one of interviews that RE5 uses modified MT Framework engine.

Resident Evil 5 doesn't feature enough texture pop-in to qualify for running on UE3.

If i remember right Capcom licensed UE3 engine in Feb 2007, but they are developing RE5 since 2005, so....it's simply impossible.

However look here, taken from the Capcom Investor Relations Annual Report 2008

Well, this seals it, thanks. It's half a relief, and half a bummer. Maybe with the Unreal Engine 3.0, the pc port of the game (wich will, eventually, happen) would be moddable to a greater extent. But it's awesome that they're sticking with the Framework too. That way, the chances of a crappy PC port are actually pretty small.

The PC version has been "almost confirmed" by few magazines, 3rd quarter 2009.

And i believe it will be the best version since PC is the lead platform, in case you don't know all MT Framework games are developed on PCs, no crappy port like RE4, not anymore

Capcom's in-house games all use Capcom internally developed engines. Resident Evil 5 uses MT Framework, just as Dead Rising, Lost Planet and DMC4 did.

Their license for the UE3 was for a game being developed externally from Capcom, simply because it's bad business practice to share their internally developed source code with people outside of the company. I don't think it was ever confirmed what game the license was bought for, but I think it may have been Dark Void.

All games are developed on PCs. The reason the RE4 port was so bad was because Ubisoft handled that version of the game
