Look at a games like Halo or Metal Slug; they're games that feature co-op but aren't really co-op games if that makes any sense. The other players are merely extra guns to aid the first player; there aren't any mechanics that emphasize actual team work between the players. Even so, it's always way more fun to play those games with two people than simply by yourself. Now look at RE5, a game that truly emphasizes co-op and imagine how much the game will benefit by being played with two people. I have no doubt RE5 will be incredible even if it's being played single player, but it's pretty much a rule of thumb that games that offer co-op are always more fun with co-op than without.
    2 Words: Your. Opinion.

Seriously, co-op is so overrated these days. For me, it's an extra, and it should remain one, for focusing the game on a structure that's not accessible by all players is the dumbest mistake ever.

Hardly. Yes, games like Halo and Gears of War offer co-op as extras among a game that is still largely single player driven by design. While not everyone who plays RE5 will have access to the two player co-op (in a game designed around two player co-op), Sheva acts as a competent substitute. The design around the co-op in RE5 has paved for many awesome mechanics and the emphasis on true teamwork makes it unique and an all kind of new RE experience and it's going to be worth the risk if you ask me. In co-op games like Halo your partner is merely nothing more than an extra gun to help expend more bullets. RE5 is introducing a co-op mode that is far deeper and much more reliant on actual cooperation than most other co-op action games, and that's what makes it so exciting and satisfying. Actually having two people together who have to protect each other, manage supplies together and form strategies on the fly is just awesome.

A very small minority don't have online capability, both PS3 and 360. Capcom are smart in taking advantage of those that do.

If you're not online, you should be put out to pasture.
          See you in hell.

This is all relative, but RE4 actually beat RE5 simply by being alone a lot of the time. Not to say RE4 is good, just better than RE5.

You want to play a fun action game with four people instead of two with hundreds of enemies storming you? Left 4 Dead.
yeah, that is my point exactly, at least in RE4 you were actualy alone for most of the game, and even though RE0 you were with Billy or Rebecca most of the game, it still managed to be scary in some parts, unlike RE5.

i agree with you 100% here, actually, i was agrueing this point with someone on GameFAQs a while ago, he said that it wouldn't matter if you were playing as Kratos or Marcus Fenix, it would still be scary. that is complete bullshit, you need to have a weak protagonist, and be only be only armed with reletively weak weapons. other wise, what is there to be scared of?

They can't keep the old horror feel of the old games anymore, they need to move on. This wasn't realised with RE4, but they've nailed it with RE5.
i agree the coop makes it more fun, but it's still not as fun as playing the classic RE's single player. and RE5's single player is horendus.

What's more tense: Getting swarmed by zombies (or in this case, majinis) all alone or having someone to watch your back so you don't have to worry about what's behind you?
yeah Sheva (or Chris, depending on who you play as) really takes away from the scaryness of the game, id much rather be alone, shame RE5 alone is boring as hell, but coop is fun but not in the least bit scary.

imagine taking on the chainsaw majini on your own, it would be so much scarier.

Speaking of which, I wonder if you get anything special depending on who you pick to play in the beginning ?
