Resident Evil (Remake) has been released in 2002 and Resident Evil DS (basically a port of the original PSX game) in 2006 >_>

        1) RE 2
        2) RE 3
        3) RE Original/Remake
        4) RE 4
        5) RE CVX

These polls are just crap. Can you like one game over another if you never played the latter? I would be curious to see where RE 5 would rank after everyone has played it.

I'll probably end up getting a Wii eventually. Wii's have BC for GameCube games, right?

Yup the Wii is backwards compatible. Think you'd just need to get a gamecube controller!

Since everyone else has done it, so shall I:

                Story and characters:

                1) RE2 (Birken!)
                2) REmake (Barry!)
                3) Code Veronica (Good story I thought. The Ashford family made for an interesting varied bunch of characters, plus Claire, Chris and Wesker were all in it. I liked the chemistry that went on with everybody. Only downside when it came to characters; Steve, but oh well...)
                4) Outbreak 1/2 (Nicholai!)
                5) RE3 (Same as above, plus Nemesis)
                6) RE4 (Crap characters and story)

                Overall:

                1) RE2
                2) REmake
                3) RE1
                4) RE3
                5) Outbreak 1/2 (closed some plotholes of previous games whilst also showing things from the perspective of those locals in Raccoon City? Finally!)
                6) RE4 (great gameplay, very little else)
                7) Code Veronica (too much backtracking)

I like 4, but I have high hopes for Umbrella Chronicles, which I hope to play soon.

                    1. Resident Evil 2: To me this one has the horror element in spades; atmospheric, sometimes Lynchian music, intense jump scares, tension, ample gore and grotesque depictions of the G-virus, and I find it disturbing just how firmly Umbrella has Raccoon City in its grasp. Even though it's the only RE game I've mastered, I find myself going back and playing it the most often. Plus, for the nostalgia factor, this one was my first RE.

                    2. Resident Evil: I would put the REmake here (and this entry includes both the original and the REmake), but the first one recalls fonder memories. It definitely has the most memorable music, even better than RE2; the difference is that while RE2s music works to a greater whole, the BGM from RE1 stands on its own (sorta like Halloween and Halloween II respectively, but that's a different opinion altogether). I can remember being crushed upon realizing that the Dual Shock version locks the DC music even in original mode, and being relieved hearing some of the original's pieces in the REmake. Either way, the operative word for RE1 is charm. What RE2 has in execution, RE1 has in utter charm and idiosyncrasy. The only thing REmake has (well, besides the breathtaking presentation) over the first one is Lisa and George Trevor. I find Crimson Heads, while certainly creepy and a welcome challenge, to be more of a feature. Plus I was never comfortable with the V-ACT elder boss. I'll always maintain that Capcom made a mistake; we should have fought a licker!

                    3. Biohazard 3: Last Escape: This is what an American gets with a modded PS1...I just couldn't wait for this to come out. I remember loving the idea of having a boss throughout the game, and feeling a huge ego boost when my theories were confirmed as to just how the player/Jill KNEW that Nemesis was after STARS ("I mean, what does he do? Go around saying "STARS?"). Looking at it now, God it's challenging. I suppose I always played on "Light Mode" as a kid.

                    4. Resident Evil Code Veronica X: As weird and awkward the directions the present story took, the files provided for great background info on Umbrella. I found that everything (bar the last two Alexia fights, sadly) was well-staged. Plus I have a peculiar fondness for the Nosferatu boss. The music, the bare setting, the use of a sniper rifle all gelled; I remember having a save file so I could fight him over and over.

                    5. Resident Evil 4: I actually found it quite scary, the problem being it was only in certain parts. As soon as the plaga parasites became second nature, they became less disgusting and more burdensome. The same thing goes for regenerators and novistadors; overuse diminished the otherwise great effects they had. Plus I also found it quite fun (as a lot of people did), it definitely attracted more playthroughs. I didn't need any of the "larger than life" action sentiments. I don't think leon should get from point A to B using a platform with huge wheels, nor do I think the traverse should include pendulums, large stone statues of a midget, trip-wired dynamite, bear traps, fire breathing stone dragons or thwomps (sorry, couldn't think of a better name).

                    6. Resident Evil 0: The game had easily the best rendered environments of the old gameplay, but I just don't care. I thought the settings were ugly, the monsters uninspired (though some of them were creepy), and the story a bit meh. The good thing though was that it was suspenseful enough. Again, I'm just not interested.

The spinoffs gave me enjoyment. I dug some of the story elements in Resident Evil: Survivor, and it had some memorably cheesy dialogue. Outbreak was fun as hell during its online prime, especially with the introduction of friendly fire, it just had a massive load of clunkiness weighing down on it (load times, inventory, etc). Dead Aim was a fun playthrough (especially with a light gun) but that was about it for me.

im pretty sure RE1 has sold more than RE2 has.
Fun fact: It hasn't. It was only ever ported to the PC, and that didn't really impact sales that much. RE2 on the other hand, collectively as a whole sold more than RE1. This is fact. There is something dreadfully wrong when you try and argue with the company itself, regarding it's own sales figures. I think they would know.

PS. REmake and Deadly Silence don't count.

*Resident Evil: 2,750,000 units sold (PSX) + 170.000 units sold (Saturn)
*Resident Evil Director's Cut: 1,130 thousand units (PSX)
*Resident Evil Director's Cut Dual Shock: 1,200,000 units sold (PSX)
*Resident Evil 2: 4,960,000 units sold (PSX)
*Resident Evil 2 Dual Shock: 260.000 units sold (PSX)

                          Verdict= 5.250.000 (RE1) > 5.220.000 (RE2)

there are also 200.000 units sold by RE Deadly Silence, but according to ClarenDevlin they don't count LOL

Wow, where did you get those sales figures Sunglasses?
I tried doing that a while ago at this thread:

But I couldn't find things like RE2 dual shock and Deadly Silence.
I think the only thing you are missing are the PC and N64 versions and also the PSN downloads from Japan (I'd love to know those figures because I'm sure they have sold a shitload).

You're missing the N64 RE2 (which as of 2001, had 350,000 in the US). The GC and DC versions would have at least sold through 100K worldwide each, so that put RE2 well ahead of RE1.

Then there are the respective PC versions of all titles, but again, the overall figures add up to RE2's advantage. Even if you add say... 100K to RE DS.

For RE DS, RE2 DC and RE1 Saturn I used VgCharz
As Claren already pointed out PC didn't really impact sales so much, they're irrelevant, and unfortunately i can't find RE2 N64 sales data, sorry but I'm sure considering the N64 RE2 sold better than RE1
