I know it's not the exact same, but if you haven't you really need to play Onimusha 1 and 2. The controls might make your thumbs hurt, but I'm sure you'll love them.

RE4 came along, and re-wrote the formula. RE5 takes the RE4 formula, and improves upon it with changes, and people are already clamoring that RE5 sucks because it is "RE4 with polish" or that the RE series again needs "drastic changes" to remain competitive.

      Jeez.
      So true.

People were complaining about the series getting stale before RE4. Now some people are clamoring for the old style to come back. Make up your minds.

Tell you what, Helegad, I think you should look at what you have typed and think. Not just for a few seconds, oh no, but just enough so you can see the many flaws on your opinion. Perhaps going out for a walk in the nice fresh air will do the trick, because, you know, you havn't even played/completed, the whole of the story or what's it about. Please come back with your thoughts though, once you have, with a nice reason on your justification, so it can be a good read on why.

I just hope they make it feel scary again and not like a war game anymore...>.> the more I see of 5 the more it looks like a war game trying to mix itself with RE.

Like Darkmoon said, it was meant to be a FPS in the first place (I think that there are some concept art of it in first person and all), and seriously, if they could make it somewhat challenging, and not just the Half Life formula with mindless targets that run toward you, that wouldn't be half bad. They'd have half of the game nailed. Then they'd only need a story and setting that does not suck.
They are problably goin' to spin things up in RE6 anyway, the RE4 formula is a bit stale by now, and it'll eventually become a run of the mill shooter and fall behind time if it just adds little stuff like run-and-gun and some minor mechanix, like different melee weapons and such.

The entire FPS thing never went beyond concept. Mikami scrapped it because it would ensure the game never got far into development. In short, it doesn't work.

Keep that FPS shit away from RE.

I believe that they didn't go with the fps concept because it wouldn't be scary enough (due to techinical limitations as well, if I'm not mistaken). But that was in, oh, 95, 94 or something? It's 2009. They can make it work now, from both an artistic and gameplay standpoint.

Except it's shit and basically goes against anything the series is about. That, and it's the most generic shit the industry can churn out. It didn't work with Survivor, Survivor 2, Dead Aim (granted, fun game, but the FPS aspect dragged it down), nor did it work with Umbrella Chronicles. Horror + FPS = nope.

While you can argue that House of the De---wait sorry, you can't.

I think games like Condemned, BioShock, and FEAR have shown you can successfully blend survival horror with the FPS genre without having to sacrifice one or the other too much.

Granted, I didn't find any of those games scary, but then, I never found any of the RE games scary, either.

yeah i agree with that plus i mean it wouldnt make the re games bad if they did it would just make them different but i really doubt capcom would do that

It is possible to make a game scary in first person, but I was kinda joking about RE going that route. Because it apparently isn't possible for Capcom to make an FPS scary. I think the worst that's gonna happen (and it's pretty bad) is that we're gonna get a full blown Gears of War clone.

It's like going to a jazz festival demanding to hear Greenday. Once you've broken too many rules, then it's no longer the same thing.

And I suppose fixed camera angles are what the series is about? Spare me.

Just because there are a lot of uncreative FPS' out there, that doesn't mean it's a generic genre. If you can't feel the difference between Unreal and Quake, for example, it's your problem, no one else's.

Once you nail the difference between Light Gun shooters and First Person Shooters as game genres down, we can talk about it. Otherwise, do not make statements about what you (apperently) do not know.
