No, they aren't. Not as far as I'm concerned. I just enjoy them and would like to see them again. And they were S.T.A.R.S. members after all. So I wouldn't say they're just some random characters or sidekicks who aren't even worth mentioning.

Boob's got a point though. They aren't terrible characters at all but they are not exactly important as people build them up to be. I find the character of Rebecca to be a little to unbelievable and Barry well he was just Barry. He was an almost traitor who got his redeeming factoring in RE3.

There is no evidence that Barry and Rebecca did anything but went about their lives after the destruction of Raccoon City. They both have nothing that would be of any interest to Umbrella, Tri-cell or Wesker aside from being former STARS. Chris and Jill on the other hand continued their fight and even hooked up together again and played an influential part in the final knife in Umbrella. While there might not be anything extremely special about the two of them, the games have showed us that they are/were still involved in fighting bio-terror making them likely candidates to be involved in a story capacity in current and future games.

I admit alot of Resident Evil fans over exaggerate how great characters like Leon or Jill are but its within reason. Jill had a beilevable scenario that elevated her character even higher then the first game did. Same with Leon, he had a good outing in 2 and an even better outing in 4. Barry had a small and minimal part in 3, and never really came off as that strong in the original to me. Same with Rebecca, Zero actually worked against elevating her character if you ask me.

There are alot of people who are apparently convinced that the plague doctor could actually be Rebecca. How disappointing would that scene really be? Let us examine it just for a second.

Wesker: "I would of expected you to be happier to see us."
      Chris: "Us?"
      Wesker: "So Slow". Removes Hood.
Chris: "Who is...wait...that looks familiar. Rachel? No thats not it. R something I know, man its been so long. Oh yeah, Rebecca!. Oh yeah I am happy to see you, how have you been? I haven't seen you in close to 9 years and for some reason this is supposed to be a monumental moment in the plot!"
      Wesker facepalms himself.

That's exactly my point. You don't even know what happened to Rebecca during all those years. You don't know what she did, what choices she made. To me, it would be interesting to find out.

I really DON'T hate them. The only RE characters I actually dislike are Leon and Carlos.

It'd be nice, yes. But Capcom has had many opportunities to flesh out ALL of the living RE characters, and that has not been done. I mean, most of the main characters got epilogue files at the end of RE3 (except for Rebecca). It wasn't until RE4 that a little more narrative was even added to the RE games, and Capcom at least made an attempt (a poor one, IMO) of making Leon a rounded-out character.

RE4, Degeneration, REUC - all perfect outlets to tell fans a bit about characters. Hasn't happened. Will RE5 finally shed some light on the matter? Maybe, maybe not.

The way I see it, RE5 already has its hands full with the Chris/Wesker story. Sprinkle in some JV, and you're already brimming with more important components than whether or not Barry got any fatter or Rebecca went on to become a doctor. At best, we can hope for a mention of them or a flashback.

But I refuse to elevate Barry or Rebecca beyond their roles as sidekicks.

Hell, you should be happy Rebecca even got her own game in RE0.

What's wrong with Carlos? I think he has really great character development and he's a deep character, given how he has an emotional breakdown in RE3 where Jill has to smack him one, how he tries to come on to a woman in the middle of a zombie Apocalypse with a biological semi-indestructible monster stalking you, and talks about his accent and how it gets "foxy ladies" stirring. Great character.

I was being sarcastic He was fun to play as, but I put his behaviour in RE3 down on Capcom's long list of "Things you would never say in X situation", which is the case with RE1 and RE3. I don't have much opinion on Carlos either way, but I much preferred him in RE3 to UC.

That's also why I didn't like him in RE3. Everyone else in the game was all serious and obviously militaristic (Nicholai, Mikhail), and Carlos' mannerisms and pick-up lines were just out of place (and made him seem like a d!ckweed).

I actually preferred his REUC character, but I think I am the only one.

I'd actually rather see Ashley return than Carlos.

i like almost all the RE characters, and Carlos was funny at times as well, he was pretty interesting if you ask me.

                          besides he saved Jill.

Carlos seemed kind of generic to me, almost like a soldier who only served the purpose of saving Jill. Which dont get me wrong was a good plot device because if Jill didn't end up injured in the course of the game against a foe like Nemesis...it would of been a tad bit unbelievable, but Carlos really just bored the hell out of me.

I am indifferent about Carlos. If he was part of the U.B.C.S., then he probably had committed some kind of crime (as if I remember, a lot of the U.B.C.S were saved from execution), and since he went against Umbrella, probably wouldn't have had said crimes abolished, so may be the government carried out the sentencing.

Billy will never show his head up again since he is a marked man. Though didn't billy's crimes take place in africa?

RE0 should have really had a 2 man stars team. Maybe playing as Rebecca and a Bravo Member, which later they get seperated, and Becks became the timid mouse she is. Becks is probably off in a lab assisting in some kind of anti viral development since she has both medical knowledge and first hand experience of T.

                              Spoiler:

                              Spoiler:

Barry, godly Barry, really needed something else done with his character. Barry is a family man. He moved his family away and was supposed to join Chris/Jill in the fight against umbrella.

Well as far as Degeneration goes, Capcom has put Claire out to the side lines and as I felt retired her from a game lead character. Which pissed me off to no ends.

Jill probably died, but good ol wesker got out his shovel and did something to her dead body ( I got the Monkey Island tune in my head as I typed that) , so in RE6, when she ends up in a lead position, she can match Chris move for move without having to look like a she-man on steroids. Super Jill!

Leon, god knows what they'll do with him. Though since he has First hand experience, maybe the President will deploy him for other outbreaks. Though RE4s pithy comeback Leon made my blood run cold, he is still preferrable to the Emo "Squall" Leon from Degeneration. Come on Capcom, either just give it up and reinvent Leon, or just give him a sodding GunBlade.

Bird woman is probably Ada again. I get that kind of its Ada feel looking at her. Ada and Wesker are bed fellows now. And if Wesker is appearing, Ada probably will too. I felt that Seperate Ways/Degeneration was trying to seperate Ada from Leon, making her a more general plot character.

                              Spoiler:

The problem is that Capcom has too many surviving characters and its taken them far too long to flesh out/finish off their story arcs. Claire for example was left up in the air after RE:CV but now has been given the task of caring for people affected by outbreaks. Leaving them unfinished ment that people grew to like a character and since that said character was left living, and hadn't taken up another occupation, left them open for a return. But Capcom cannot churn out enough RE games to cope with all the living characters.

I just hope they are keeping Barry for the final RE game. I can see the ultimate BOW having both Super Jill and Chris crippled on the floor as Barry smashes his way in, letting rip with his .44, and saving the day.

I really think capcom should have killed off more of these characters. I like a lot of these characters but I think they would have been better as martyrs. I think the Nemesis would have been better if it not only killed Brad but Rebecca and Barry.
