      What charm?

RE4 lost any charm it could have had the second we entered a castle.

I think that's where it gained it.

        "No thanks, bro!"

I played through RE4 roughly 6 or 7 times (over the GC, PS2 and PC ports).

RE1-3 I can't even remember how many times I've played through it.

In contrast, though, I've only bothered to go through Zero 3 or 4 times and CVX once.

I'm well known for bashing BioHazard 4, but I must admit, I was fairly excited the first time I played through the game. I don't know if it was lack of a real Bio-title at the time (it had been years since Bio3 and CV:X), or what. And, I welcomed the new overhaul with open arms. Let's face it, older fans - the new graphics system and everything that came with it was a full breath of fresh air. I kind of got tired of the camera being locked, and worse, the game showing the most ackward camera angles at the worst possible times.

But that in no way means that I love BioHazard 4. What really urked me, were the pathetic attempts of characters (Salazaar, Hunnigan, etc). That, and I somehow feel as if this game is about nothing more than politics, with a little twist of horror. Then again, how close to the truth is that, compared to real life?

Anyways, the annoying characters, the fact that the entire game felt like a job (which it was, storywise, eg, JOB: rescue pres daughter), and the overall storyline were all leading factors as to why I dislike this game, for the most part.

It pains me to say, everytime, that this game has little to no replay value for me. It had so much potential... I feel as if the true essence of BioHazard "slipped through the cracks" during the series reinvention.
              I'm a blackstar.

Yes, it gets old. Especially when you have a family of six, and three of them play it non-stop.

I found RE4 to be the most replayable game in the series, and this is mostly because I find the game hardly ever feels tedious. You're almost always moving forward, interacting with unique enemy encounters and awesome boss fights. I love REmake to death and have finished about six or so times, but it's harder for me to replay because some sections of it do feel tiresome due to the backtracking on repeated playthroughs. Resident Evil 4 just constantly feels so exciting and absorbing, and I feel the same way about RE3 (and RE2 to a lesser extent); the backtracking is kept to a minimum compared to other games in the series, and you're moving forward more frequently.

Anyway, even though lots of people seem to dislike to the castle section of RE4, I loved it; the castle rocked. The scenery, the chanting cultists, the Garradors, the section where you play as Ashley, plus fighting Verdugo and meeting the Novistadors. I effing adored the castle.

Anyway, as far as replay value goes, I'd say RE4 is very strong in replay value. There's infinite ammo weapons to unlock, the mini-games to master (I could play Mercs forever), Professional mode to go through, and it's fun to have repeated playthroughs to experiment with and upgrade weapons you've never used much before and search for treasures you've never found. Plus the game has a few really cool easter eggs as well (like getting devoured by Del Lago at the dock).

I don't know how someone could play it non-stop, it has no substance.

                    Enter room-->Kill enemies-->Loot place-->Leave room/Enter new room.

That's all it is, with Rescue Ashley, QTE or Defeat Boss in between.

You could dumb down any game into this category, including the old Resident Evil games.

Enter room-->Kill or evade enemies-->Loot place-->Backtrack/Enter new room.

That's all it is, with Solve Puzzle, Backtrack, or Defeat Boss in between.

See? It isn't fair to approach any game with that kind of mindset.

Yeah, I guess, it just seemed a bit too obvious in RE4 for me.

I started playing it again yesterday as you know since so many people say its exactly like Re5 and I've overplayed the demo thought Id get a taste through Re4. It seems very outdated now after playing Re5. The story I think I've only seen twice because its so bad I just skip every scene. Once I got to the castle I was really sick of the game then some guy tried to steal Ashley and I shot him twice first hit him in back and second hit Ashley in the head as they fell to the ground. Thought to hell with this and knocked it off. The game is so outdated and just boring now specially the story and the castle part of the game. I never got bored or sick of Re 1-Code. So to some of you Re4 might be the best Re game ever but I guess you are the kind of people who thinks new is best. Lets give Re4 10 years and see if it still has the replay value the original does. Gotta be honest it's been bout 6 and I couldnt even finish the game so boring.

I've replayed RE4 more than any other game.

                              So I completely disagree.

You could say that for the other RE games too.

Explore-->kill or evade enemies--> find important object/puzzle--> backtrack/enter new room.

See? The other games were the same thing over and over again too.

I was going to avoid this topic, because it's already turning into another "Bash RE4" rehash, but I'll throw in my two cents. Besides, I've mostly avoided speaking about RE4 on this board.

Honestly, I've probably warmed up to Resident Evil 4 over the years. I, of course, was beyond excited to play it when it came out on the GameCube, and my first playthrough was exciting and fun. But, when I finished the game, I was really disappointed with the storyline, and I grew to resent RE4 a lot. I practically hated it for obvious reasons. But, when the PS2 port came out and included Separate Ways (which really shined a light on the behind-the-scenes events involving Wesker and Ada), my opinion of it changed, and I grew to like it.

Now, years later, I still enjoy it. It's definitely not my favorite RE game and never will be, but it's not awful. Yes, the storyline is silly and the gameplay is nothing like previous RE games, but it's still fun and I enjoy it. Many aspects of the game could've been done differently, but what's done is done.
