Has RE4 lost it's charm for anyone else?

I've completed RE 4 at least 10 times so I don't think that the game loses it's charm after the first playthrough. However the very first playthrough was special and unique.

I'm far from a RE4 fangirl, but I do think RE4 has a good level of replayability. I always enjoyed replaying RE games when I'd unlocked certain weapons or unlimited weapons, much like I replay RE3 a lot with my infinite rocket launcher, and I played through RE4 a lot of times to earn enough pesetas to exclusively upgrade all my weapons, and get all the weapons too (Chicago Typewriter, Infinite Launcher, Handcannon and the P.R.L). I've only replayed it on the Wii, though. The Wii controls are really fun to me, and it doesn't feel like a chore at all. I don't think I'd replay it as much if it were just the GC version, though.

Maybe that's my problem then, not having the Wii Edition.

Although when I did borrow it, I really couldn't get used to the controls. God, I got slaughtered ><

Resident Evil 4 is the closest thing to a perfect game that I have ever played.

I guess I'm just one of those fans who never played a Resident Evil before 4 and thus have no idea what a real Resident Evil is.

TC makes a good point. I always did kind of feel like re-playing RE4 was kind of a 'chore.' After my first playthrough, I've beat it 2, maybe 3 times, which is a record-low for every RE game I have ever played. I'm not sure why. I just felt like the Castle area was a never-ending pain in the ass, and once that pain in the ass finally ended, you had the island which was just plain annoying...I liked RE4...it had cool boss fights and refreshing gameplay, but, I don't know.

I actually find the older ones more of a chore.

Don't get me wrong, they're great, but they can be tedious and annoying sometimes.

I mean, isn't the fast paced nature of RE4 the reason it's hated? How can it be more of a chore than?

I don't find it fast-paced once you leave the Village. The Castle just seems to drag on and on and on and on and the objective in it seems to alternate between "Go here and get this" and "Find Ashley". It bores me.

When I first got the game, I loved it. Don't get me wrong, I love (and prefer) how 0-CVX played, but when I first played RE4 it was a refreshing change. All the way through my first playthrough I loved the game and I thought it was one of the best Resident Evils yet. But then on subsequent playthroughs, it just became a chore to play. I missed the older games and how they played and RE4 was just missing something for me.

I'm playing through it now and it's getting to the point where I'm actually sighing when I realise what I have to do now. The whole game gets very....tiring after the Village, which is the only part of the game I truly still enjoy. I hate the Castle section and the Island is only a slight improvement.

I guess this all comes off as a Resident Evil 4 sucks thread, but there are things about it I like....none spring to mind right now but there is something that keeps making me play it again, even if it feels like a chore.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

I beleive if you play any game over and over it will get boring, for me i don't find it boring.. any resident evil game is interesting for me. I have to complete that game soon enough again and i am looking forward to it because i have only completed it 2 times previous.

So as resident evil 5 draws near... I am doing some catching up on previous games, pretty much like i always do when a new game comes out.

I think why people find it a chore is because of it being over long (and it is), the story, and the repetition the game has. I love the gameplay though, and always very much enjoy the game whenever I play it, as it was my first real RE title, but I have to admit that I found the story really below average, even the first time through. It's just dumb. And the intentionally cheesy dialogue doesn't help, either.

To this day, I don't know which dialogue is worse, the terribly translated, unintentionally hilarious dialogue of the older games, or the cringe worthy corny dialogue that tries to be funny, but fails badly, from RE4.

Every game in the series has had that. Every damn one. It's a staple of the series. So I don't see that as a valid complaint.

It does take a little while to get used to it at first. The best thing to do is just stand there and aim at the crows at the very start and wiggle the Wii-mote about on the screen so you know how fast it takes for it to get from A to B, etc. Make sure it's properly calibrated too. If I went back to RE4 GC now, there's no way in hell I'd be able to adjust. I'm used to aiming fast, and the quick gameplay. It's much easier to aim precisely with the Wiimote and were it not for having that port I really doubt I'd have replayed it as much as I have.

Resi 4 was a great game. Give credit where it's due. Appalling Resident Evil game, Ashley was an annoying bint, and the story REALLY has nothing to do with the Resident Evil universe at all, but it's a really fun game with an enjoyable control system, a good shoot-em-up and I really enjoy playing it. And I've been a fan of Resident Evil since the very first RE game came out.

Fair enough, but it was never as prevalent and recurring as it was in RE4 -- by the main character, no less.
