This 4 year-old debate is just that - old. You either like BioHazard 4, or you don't. It's that simple. And in no way should it define any kind of "status" in community - everyone is entitled to their own personal opinions. It's what makes a community a community.

If everyone's opinion about everything was the same, life would be pretty damn boring.

RE Dick: Classic REs have tank controls, stupid camera angles, all that cheesy dialogue... They're just ridiculous when you look at them now compared to the new RE!
RE Fan: RE Dick, the old RE style can go hand in hand with technical improvement. They didn't need to change everything now, did they?
RE Dick: What, don't you see RE would have been a dead series by now if they hadn't changed it? RE4 was a REvolution!!

RE Dick: Wow, the new controls and weapons make the new RE experience so much greater! Totally leaves you breathless!
RE Fan: RE Dick, perhaps you are breathless because you've been shooting at the same cloned peasant for the last hour and haven't really had the chance to open the window and get some fresh air?
RE Dick: Oh wow, the Chicago Typewriter kicks ass!!

RE Dick: Old RE fans keep moaning and complaining about the new RE now lacking puzzles and stuff. Who would want to walk around collecting items for half an hour just to get a stupid key to unlock a door you can simply kick open?
RE Fan: RE Dick, how can you even call yourself a fan of Resident Evil?
RE Dick: Haha, you're just jealous you can never score 325,579 with Krauser in the castle! Loser!

If not being too hot about 4 and 5 makes me a D, than so be it!!! ^____________^ LOL@ the staircase.

Capcom should simply start a brand new survival horror franchise imo. Combining a Silent Hill rip off with their more polished game engine. Cause imo Konami's gameplay mechanics aren't as intuitive or neat as Capcom Capcom Capcom Capcom Capcom.

        I'd love that.

I think the problem is when people say they like or dislike RE 4, its the same old back and forth shit that has been going on since the game came out. Yea I liked the game when it first came out and then was disappointed. End of story, I ready to move on and hopefully RE 5 can help every forget about this issue. I think it should be a dead issue and its like an old man fighting with a young kid about the todays values vs. the good old days.

RE4 had bad story, bad AI and bad matrix style action moves with monsters blurring one liners out their gobs.
This thread is full of fail, you can never mutually agree when you don't like a certain game in the series as another.

No it's not. It's like a company switching Orange Juice for Coffee and still calling it Orange Juice. They're both drinks, but it's not longer the same thing.

Quoted for truth. It's an old and tired debate that we've all heard far too often in the hallowed halls of the Resident Evil community. RE4 is undoubtably the Marmite of the series, you're either a trumped up action-driven little shitferret who loves the gameplay that RE4 brings or you're a xenophobic old school codger who is so set in his ways that anything more than tank-like controls and pre-rendered backgrounds is utter tosh.

Come to think of it, I do miss those pre-rendered backgrounds. But in this day and age of high octane entertainment, the kind of stuff we had with the earlier games just wouldn't satisfy the minds of gamers today. They want action, realism and guns with chainsaws on them that let you saw your enemies into little chunks. If you like RE4, good for you. The series is looking to go on in that direction, but if you prefer the earlier games then they're always available for almost every console, they're not going to disappear.

It's an evolution of gaming - and guns with chainsaws on them.

I thought it was pretty funny...

Yes, the debate and insults go both ways but I actually love RE4 and all the old games and I think the 'dick' title can probably more often be attached to the RE4 hater (such is my own observations of the community).

Sometimes at a RE fan site like this, I get the impression that I should be ashamed of myself for liking RE4. I think there is a stigma attached to RE4 fans that they are mostly noobs to the series, who don't know about or appreciate all the older games. I'm sure there are many who are like that; People who play RE4, then try out the older games and say they are shit.

Since I like both the old and the new, I find myself understanding and sympathizing with both sides. And there are certainly 'dicks' on both sides of the debate but it's always nice to read posts from someone who appreciates both... they always seem a lot more sensible.

I agree with Alzaire. You can't just apply a derogatory label to one subset of fans. There are always opposing opinions on everything. Each RE game has its own specific pros & cons, which will ultimately be different based on individual tastes.

                              Opinions arent facts.....

I liked all of the old resident evil's just as much as I liked RE4, Still to this day, RE2 will be my #1 re game (First game ever owned on any system) RE4, I think was a pretty good step up with newer style gaming and such. Sure you say bad story line bad AI, look at the old series goofy dialogue and acting, it was entertainment. I honestly don't like the Outbreak series, but you don't see me knocking people who do. Well point in point, we could have old school resident evil with new gen graphics, but i think you can only play the same style game so many different ways to the point of getting bored. When they wear out the RE4/ RE5 style gamming, they will probably discover a new style of gamming...and so on.
