RE 5's soundtrack was absolutely wonderful, and totally surprised me.
Like most of the other people here have said, "Winds of Madness" is just awesome. The name fits with that whole "maniacal" feel it has to it. Heck, I was even humming it during the boss battle...in co-op...on my microphone...(Fortunately I don't think the other guy heard me, though ).
Seriously though, this topped my previous "No. 1" soundtrack (CVX, which I absolutely love). I'm honestly thinking of buying a copy of it myself!
This is one of the only game tracks where I find I can listen to almost every song and enjoy it. Still wish there was an instrumental of Pray though, that song from the end of the 1st TGS trailer was why I wanted this soundtrack ever since that point.
^Agreed. I would LOVE an instrumental only version of "Pray." I must've rewatched that first TGS trailer a zillion times because of the poignancy of that tune.
This is a phenomenal soundtrack, through and through.
I was on the bus yesterday on my way home from work with my MP3 player on shuffle, it was a rather laborious journey as it always is at that time of night, but suddenly the orchestral arrangement of Deep Ambition came on and within moments all the hairs on the back of my neck had stood on end. You know a piece of music is really special when it can do that to you...
I love the orchestral pieces from this OST. They are really vivid and moving in all manner of ways.
Wind Of Madness is indeed brilliant, but my favourite track has to be "Majini III", it really captures the moment when you encounter that blonde chick whose head pops off and reveals the first parasite in the game, as well as the first encounter with the dogs. Very atmospheric tune, and it was used in one of the last trailers too. Practically all of the music found in the trailers are amazing. They really outdid themselves with this game.
I also liked the remix of the "Mercenaries theme".
I totally agree with you about "Majini III," it was that BGM that made me realize that this music is the best since Code Veronica. Plus I got really excited when I heard the RE0 flute crescendo during the first Uroboros fight. The music works for the type of game we're playing, and it isn't as thrown together as RE4. I hated RE4's music, especially that stupid track that plays during most of the island chapter; who knew such a calm, subdued tune could drive me up the wall? Code Veronica just had such a flourish of melody, a great consistency of music that could be downbeat, eerily calm, and ominous in quick succession throughout the same track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9RcQ7oGoDc and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQrdhf9mYzM are my favorite pieces. Plus I think the Rockfort self-destruct music is the most memorable of that variety. RE0, RE3, and REmake (sadly) I'd lump in the same category as having music that's fitting but never too interesting. The best music in RE3 is the desolate stuff playing in the streets after you talk to Brad in the bar, the best stuff in REmake are the tracks they've reworked from the original, and in RE0 the foyer of the training facility (I like when the vocals kick in). RE1 had an interesting variety of fitting and memorable BGM (this unfortunately says too little). RE2's score is just organic to the setting, the tone, and the gameplay. Like Jill's Boob I'm going to have to make another Halloween comparison, because how well Carpenter's score worked for that film is similar to the effect of the music in RE2.
