Each has different costumes
Chris has his BSAA, STARS(I think), and some weird one. His hair is a different color and he has on sunglasses
Sheva has her BSAA, some dancer one (with golden hair too!) and a tribal outfit
Jill has her BSAA and her battlesuit one. BSAA Jill has Jills normal hair color, the other has her blonde ponytail.
Wesker has his one from the game and then his STARS one.
Unlocking them each has to do with getting "A" rank on each Mercenary stage.

just a short FAQ for those who are wondering what characters are in mercenaries, as well as basic gameplay functions. I unlocked all of them last night, but you'll most likely be disappointed with the results. Nevertheless, I hope you find this useful. I'll try my best to answer any questions here!

Abbreviations
(HG) = Handgun
(MG) = Machine Gun
(SG) = Shotgun
(RIF) = Sniper Rifle
(MAG) = Magnum
The number after the weapon model is its ammo capacity.
Chris Redfield (BSAA Outfit)
Weapons: M92F x 50 (HG), Ithaca M37 x 20 (SG)
Ammo: 50 HG, 30 SG
Explosives: Hand Grenade
Healing: First Aid Spray
Comment: Default character.
Chris Redfield (Safari Outfit)
Weapons: SIG P229 x 16 (HG), M3 x 10 (SG),
Ammo: HG x 30, SG x 10
Explosives: Rocket Launcher x 2
Healing: None
Comment: Each rocket launcher takes up one inventory slot. Rocket launchers disappear after use. To unlock, beat Village (stage three) with rank A or higher (40,000+ points).
Chris Redfield (S.T.A.R.S. Outfit)
Weapons: SIG 556 x 65 (MG), S&W M29 (MAG), G. Launcher x 12 (Elec Rounds)
Ammo: MG x 150, MAG x 6
Explosives: None
Healing: None
Comment: You can load the grenade launcher with any type of round (explosive, acid, nitrogen, flame, flash, and electric). To unlock, beat Experimental Facility (stage five) with rank A or higher (40,000+ points).
Sheva Alomar (BSAA Outfit)
Weapons: M92F x 40 (HG), VZ61 x 260 (MG), Dragonov SVD x 13 (RIF)
Ammo: HG x 50, MG x 150
Explosives: None
Healing: First Aid Spray x 1
Comment: Default character.
Sheva Alomar (Clubbin' Outfit)
Weapons: AK-74 x 50 (MG), Jail Breaker x 8 (SG), S75 x 20 (RIF)

Comment: To unlock, beat Ancient Ruins (stage four) with rank A or higher (40,000+ points).
Sheva Alomar (Tribal Outfit)
Weapons: Longbow x infinite, G. Launcher (Ice Rounds)
Ammo: None
Explosives: Incendiary Grenade x 3, Flash Grenade x 3
Healing: None
Comment: Bow seems to be instant kill against most, if not all, non-boss enemies. The downside to it is that there is no laser guide to help you aim, and arrows gradually fall when shot at longer distances. You can load the grenade launcher with any type of round (explosive, acid, nitrogen, flame, flash, and electric). To unlock, beat Missle Area (stage six) with rank A or higher (40,000+ points).
Jill Valentine (BSAA Outfit)
Weapons: Px4 x 25 (HG), H&K MP5 x 150 (MG)
Ammo: HG x 50, MG x 150
Explosives: Flash Grenade x 5
Healing: First Aid Spray x 1
Comment: To unlock, beat Public Assembly (stage one) with rank A or higher (40,000+ points).
Jill Valentine (Battle Suit Outfit)
Weapons: VZ61 x 300 (MG), H&K PSG-1 x 9 (RIF)
Ammo: MG x 150, RIF x 30
Explosives: Hand Grenade x 3
Healing: Herb (G+G)
Comment: To unlock, beat Ship Deck (stage seven) with rank A or higher (40,000+ points).
Albert Wesker (Midnight Outfit)
Weapons: H&K P8 x 21 (HG), S&W M500 x 6 (MAG)
Ammo: HG x 50, MAG x 6
Explosives: Hand Grenade x 5, Proximity Mine x 5
Healing: None
Comment: To unlock, beat The Mines (stage two) with rank A or higher (40,000+ points).
Albert Wesker (S.T.A.R.S. Outfit)
Weapons: Samurai Edge x 15 (HG), Hydra x 6 (SG), L. Hawk (MAG)

I wish they would've added more characters as well as skins.

his melee is a bit effective than others, but no teleporting stuff or quick step
at least the wesker with the midnight outfit skin

Yes, I'm curious too, because after all this "RE5 has the best bonus content" I though they would include something more than just a co-op Mercenaries mode. RE4 on NGC got Mercenaries AND additional short scenario for Ada; RE4 on PS2, PC and Wii also got additional costumes that changed the gameplay style (invincible Ashley that can't be captured = pure awesomeness ) and a long, about 3-5 hours scenario with its own storyline that explain the backstory of RE4.Last edited by Mr_Zombie; 03-10-2009, 12:34 PM.

^ Thats exactly what I've been thinking too. Many reviews have said how RE5 has a shitload of bonus content, yet all I've been seeing is a mercenaries that only has 4 characters(RE4 had 5). You'd think they'd double the roster and give the game more bonus content, especially since they spent 4 years on this game.
