As for REmake and RE0, they are no doubt beautiful games. But they are also games that have many, many fewer graphical items onscreen, plus the settings are typically shrouded in a vast amount of darkness.
RE5 is obviously on a much more powerful platform, in a newer generation, and the scenes depict so many items at high resolutions that it is obvious you are wrong. I know you're joking (I would hope) but RE5 is a good looking game, just as the most RE games have been during their respective times.
Has it also occurred to you that so much more of the RE5 world is illuminated? As I said, darkness covers up many graphical limitations.Last edited by Jill's Boob; 03-18-2009, 11:08 AM.

That's actually something else. Most RE5 banter was about the story, the co-op and the gameplay mechanics being similar to RE4. It's almost shameful that the graphics were more or less overlooked, when they're some of the most beautiful that I have ever seen on a current-gen platform. Especially that sunset when you leave the mines, that looked truly stunning.
Oh, and the music. Loved the music. Part of what makes a video game great to me is a decent score. In fact, as much as I despised the ridiculous nature of the Jill fight, I loved the music for the fight, especially when combined with Chris' desperate attempts to reason with her. The first time I went through that sequence, as Chris got smacked down by Jill, he slowly struggles to his feet and continues his efforts to snap her out of it while this wonderful music plays - "Jill! It's me, Chris!" - These two partners forced to fight each other.

RE5's graphics blew me away. I don't know how anyone can honestly pick the graphics apart unless they're a smug reviewer or a graphics whore. The character models looked great, the facial mo-cap was AMAZING, and the environments were absolutely breathtaking(see all of Chapter 4).

You also find yourself really rooting for Chris throughout the game, he's a character you can actually feel for. I felt like I wanted him to succeed, after all he's been through, all the suffering that Wesker has given him. That's where I thought RE5 failed a little, it should have made it into more of a revenge story.
Chris mentions to Sheva that he more or less pissed Wesker off, but I disagree with that. If anything, Wesker's the one who screwed with Chris and he's been doing it for over a decade. Led his teammates and friends to their deaths in Arklay, kidnapped his younger sister at Rockfort Island, then turned his own partner and best friend against him. If anyone should be pissed, it's Chris. He deserved to finally defeat Wesker, to best him.
Loved that bit where he plunges the syringe into Wesker's neck, "I have had enough of your BULLSHIT!" - Yet he never gloats, he never celebrates his victory, he just gets it done and in doing so renews his faith in his actions.
In short, he's probably my favourite RE protagonist.See you in hell.

I loved that line so much. I got so happy when I heard him say that.
And then I died in the very next QTE.

Haha, all along you're thinking, "Come on Chris, get back up. You've got to finish the job." - And then he finally succeeds. Maybe that's why I didn't care too much about Jill's escape from Raccoon City, it just seemed wholly selfish. Sure, she tried to convince a few people to escape (a certain Mr. Rosso comes to mind) but for the most part she was out to make good on her own departure.
It was Chris who spearheaded the fight against Umbrella, though unfortunately it was Wesker who was credited with their downfall - going on to replace one evil ambition with another. That's what usually happens with popular characters, they tend to barge the rest of the cast out of the way.See you in hell.

Hey, it worked for Ridley Scott with Blade Runner. He used a lot of smoke and darkness to shroud the fact that the sets were pretty ragged, and it actually worked to the film's benefit.

In short, he's probably my favourite RE protagonist.
But I did like the way he was a bit jaded, and older, and more "worn out" by his long struggle (emotionally rather than physically). I didn't mind his bulked up stature, since it would make since that he trained as much as possible after getting his ass beat on Rockfort.
Chris is definitely the best choice for main RE protagonist - he's humble, driven, and likable. I am just glad he finally got a game to give him a bit more substance.
PLUS, he can punch boulders into submission.Last edited by Jill's Boob; 03-18-2009, 11:40 AM.

What would you guys think if they had added in more characters from the original? Replace Sheva with Jill, Josh with Barry, and add Rebecca in there somewhere. Do you think that would have been awesome or gimmicky? I think it would have made the end of Wesker more epic for it to be at the hands of those he betrayed.Last edited by Mr. Kennedy; 03-18-2009, 11:47 AM.

^Gimmick. You can't just shoehorn characters in for some big heartfelt reunion. It'd be out of place to see Barry fumbling with his blood pressure meds while he tries to battle Wesker on a volcano.
That's my opinion anyway.Last edited by Jill's Boob; 03-18-2009, 11:50 AM.
