I'm playing the game on normal and I don't have any serious problems with Sheva (I'm at Chapter 2-3).

Best way I found to work around Sheva's retardedness is just let her have the handgun the entire game (generously upgraded) and put her on Cover, and let her mule the healing stuff since the AI is pretty dependable with auto healing when you need it, (since mixing/finding herbs in your inventory midfight is probably the only thing the AI does better than you do.)

I only put her on Attack for bossfights, since other than make her use bigger guns, Attack will also cause her to run around looking for items, which can be a pain in a normal level.

As for Sheva running away from you, it only happens in some places where the designers decided that instead of following you, Sheva should run ahead and wait at your next destination so the player knows where they're supposed to be going. Thankfully it doesn't happen often.

If you put her on attack with an SMG, she'll keep firing AT THE MAJINI's FEET while they are on the ground, ensuring that she'll waste the max amount of ammo. I'm not even kidding here.

I generally found her to be fuck-awesome or just silly.

If she is standing behind, she'll try and shoot through you, meaning you absorb all the bullets and is just a complete waste of ammo. At times I was really impressed by her, and she coped extremely well with rocket launching Wesker during the second to last battle.

turn the hit detection off and you can shoot through the partner without any side effects..

Here's how Pro went until I decided to turn it off without using the game disc as a Frisbee:

                  - Chris: "Come one!"
                  - Sheva: "Okay".

.... 2 seconds late, she doesn't follow me:

                  - Sheva: "I need.... HELP!"

... I get to her, she uses a herb and soon after:

                  - Sheva: "I need... HELP!"

I like her dialogue bug during the Wesker fight as well.

"I've got a rocket, i'm bringing it to you!"

I liked having Sheva as a partner. I really felt that I formed a good relationship with the little trooper. Bless that sweet, sexy package of brown sugar...

Now I've been playing as Sheva with Chris as my partner. Chris' AI is worse. Much, MUCH worse!!!
                          He's so f**king annoying!
Firstly he's got a habit of always standing and moving in front of me. "Get out of my f**king way, you meat head!!!". Sheva never did that to me when I was playing as Chris. Yes, I can shoot through him but I often can't SEE past him. (It's like trying to drive behind a truck)
Chris' AI appears to be a lot more aggressive, selfish and pro-active.
This causes me problems because he often shoots enemies before I do. I got the impression I could probably just stand there and Chris would kill everything. This affects my 'Kill Count' and also my 'Accuracy', because if I shoot an enemy a split second after Chris and the enemy is already dead, my bullet passes through it and counts as a miss... So I'm always in a hurry to kill stuff before Chris does.
Even the sound of his voice is really starting to give me the shits.

The only problem I have with Sheva is when I'm still exploring an area, and Sheva who thinks she's top dog, runs off and triggers a cut scene.

I'm up to the beginning of Chapter 6, and I think I've yelled "Goddamn you, Sheva" or "You dumb bitch" at the screen more than I've been pleasantly surprised by her AI.

I'd rather this have been a Chris solo mission. I don't think the AI partner is completely awful, but it can be a pain sometimes. Still, she has done some good work and she is helpful when I need a save.

However, she likes to waste healing items and for some reason she won't eat an egg until she's almost dead. Why can't she be smart enough to eat one when she's at half-health so that she can regain full health?

She makes mistakes. I can accept those. I just find myself wishing I didn't have to babysit her.

                              Guess I'll try CubedSphere's advice.
