also RE5 has the worst atmospere in the entire series.
Wow. You had so little credibility before, and now it is gone entirely.

Anyway, when I was walking in the sewers, and the adule appeared, it made me jump. Those bastards are tough, and fast.

And when the Lickers first made their appearance - that was creepy. It was nicely set up.

Yeah. The Lickers were a very welcome return. The opening was freaky too, showing the absolute desolation of the village, and everyone staring at Chris, heh.

There is nothing even remotely scary about RE5.

        At all.

I wouldn't really call RE5 scary, rather unsettling and intense. A lot of the things you see are disturbing, like people whacking a moving bag or dragging someone off into the dark are slightly disturbing. Complete madness. There are a couple of jumpy movements too, but there's nothing that really scared me like Nemesis in RE3. RE5 had a very good atmosphere, infinitely better than RE4 in my opinion. Saying that though, the Regenerators in RE4 scared me a lot more than any enemy in RE4. I always dread fighting the Regenerators now, they genuinely scare me. The noises they make and the way they move, and the fact that (at least, in the original playthrough before the Chicago Typewriter) you had to shoot in specific points and couldn't just unload your gun into them.

So then, what exactly were the "scary" moments in RE4?

I would agree that the surprise factor of Nemesis is scary. The dogs jumping through the window in your first playthrough of RE1 is scary. The first appearance of a Licker in RE2 is scary. The first time a crimson head pops upright is scary.

Regenerators are unnerving, but not scary (to me). They just amble along until you figure out how to target their weak spots. The Executioner in RE5 is about as threatening as a Regenerator. Besides those few things I mentioned in the first sentence, not much in RE is actually "scary."

Ah, I have to disagree. What I have played of the game I've found creepy and atmospheric. Not technically scary, but I don't expect that. For me there's more atmosphere and a bigger creepy factor in the few chapters of 5 that I've played (up to 2-3 for the record) than there was in 4 imo.*

*I can't really compare 5 to any of the others, since they're completely different styles of games and such.

I do believe a Majini jumped out of a portapotty or something at one point which made my partner jump. I laughed.

There was also a point where a stun rod Majini was waiting behind a pillar to slap me in the head. That was fun.

And I get nervous whenever I see those bloody Reapers.

don't get me wrong, i hate RE4 with a passion and do not consider it scary in the slightest.

but RE5, now that was just bad. i mean the Licker Beta's were cool, but there were not done right, capcom could have used them alot more effectivly like how they used them in RE2.

and the sewer part wasn't scary, hell cause of the shitty camera system i wasn't even looking at them on my first time through, i was getting a jewel and they just poped out and i turned around and said "oh more flying things" then shot them.

and the Regenorators in RE4 were.. and it saddens me to say this, more scary than anything in RE5.

anyways, compared to the classics RE5 is just Gears of War.

i don't know how anyone can find blazing sun drenched streets creepy.

there was only a very few rare parts in RE5 that had good creepy atmoshpere.

the villiage in RE4 had resonably good atmoshpere i must admit, at least it was somewhat dark and foggy.

You can make anything creepy by making it just a little bit wrong. Silent Hill, for example. You wander around a town that's clearly deserted and it feels wrong. The huge gaping holes in the street don't help either.

The problem with Kijuju not being scary was we simply knew what was wrong beforehand. Knowledge is power. And power is not scary when you have it.
